Finer & Finer

Ever have an experience with a business where you actually think you’re being punk’d? And you think «there’s gotta be more this, nothing can be this bad.» That was my experience with Finer & Finer.
I was referred to them from a mailing list I belong to. I thought this was would be fairly easy. I consider myself very organized and have worked with a few accountants in the past with no problem. The routine’s always been the same: you send them an income summary for a quote, they send you a tax packet, you meet/​call to discuss questions, exchange all your income documents, and you’re done.
Well, I sent them my income documents and received the standard tax packet. I had a few questions while filling out the tax packet, so I emailed them to see if we could schedule a quick call to answer questions. No response. I tried again. Nothing. I then called and reached one of the Finers. I asked if I could set up an appointment to discuss questions. He wanted to answer them then. What then proceeded was some of the rudest behavior I’ve ever encountered in business. For every question, I got a sigh, as if I’d just asked the dumbest question in the world. And it got worse with every question until he started cutting me off before I even finished asking my question. It got so bad that at one point, I had to cut him off with a «CAN YOU PLEASE STOP CUTTING ME OFF AND ALLOW ME TO FINISH MY QUESTION. YOU’RE GIVING ME THE WRONG ANSWERS TO QUESTIONS I’M NOT EVEN ASKING.» Was glad to be done with that phone call.
I submitted my returns. There was no followup correspondence with the Finers. A few weeks later, I got a letter from the state saying that there was an error in my taxes. I forwarded the letter to the Finers asking if I should be concerned. Again, no response. Guess not.
