Simple — I got 5 quotes from places I found on Angie’s List: Richard’s Tree Service, Big Steve’s, Edward’s Tree Service, Blade Runners, and Kenny Jenkins.
Richard’s and Blade Runners was 3 times the price of any of the other ones. Big Steve and Edwards both had very fair pricing and nice service over the phone, but I went with Kenny Jenkins on recommendation from a friend. Turned out to be a GREAT decision. Kenny Jenkin’s had the lowest price (Steve and Edwards were very close) and the service was phenomenal. Michael (son-​in-​law of Kenny) and his team were fast, professional and very accommodating. I had a few small requests that they promptly took care of. They even cut up chunks of maple from the felled tree and put it in a box for me so I could use with my Big Green Egg. They cleaned up well too.
Everything you want in a tree removal business. Heck, any business should be run like this. Kudos, guys.

We have a large backyard that was covered with undergrowth, very tall mature trees with dead branches, and bamboo. It was unusable space. For years, I put off getting work done on this backyard because the estimates we received were so high. Moreover, no one was able to give me truly useful advice as to how we sould handle a yard tht received almost no direct sunlight. Ken came in pointed out all the trees that should go, ones that should stay, pruned back a large magnolia and suggested covering with woodchips, which he provided for free and charged only for labor. I should add that when I suggested wood chips to other landscapers, they wanted to charge for chips, delivery, and labor. He brought in a large group of his men and in a few days we had the backyard completed for a fraction of the estimates I received from landscapers past. They also did an amazing job cleaning up the street of wood chips, thoroughly impressing the neighbors. One of the things that impressed me most was his understanding of the trees. There are many «professionals» who prune tree inappropriately or damage shallow root systems without regard for longterm overall health of the trees. Ken knew what he was doing and gave me the space that I wanted while ensuring the health of the mature vegetation. Kenny Jenkins gave a quick and accurate estimate and completed all the work in quick order. Because of conditions beyond his control, he could not do the job as requested. Instead of cutting the job short, he did additional work at his cost. He over delivered on his promise. That is the best review I can give any business.
