My theater company retreats nearby for a short time every summer and this is one of our favorite local spots. There are many reasons you might want to stop into Marie’s. FOOD: Lots of fresh pastries, scones, muffins, yummy things ready to eat. When I was there they also had cheesy lasagna available by the slice. I had the good fortune of ordering the black forest ham and swiss breakfast sandwich on a very special asiago roll — amazing. Just out of this world I am still dreaming of that sandwich. Of course I went back to get it at least 2 or 3 times. So fresh, and you can really taste the difference. COFFEE: Hot brewed coffee ready to go. But since this was summer in Maine I usually went for the also ready to go ice coffee. Great that they have both options as well as organic milk and simple syrup if you are into that sort of thing. GOURMET: There are shelves full of all sorts of jams, salsas, fancy pastas, cookies, seasonings, popcorns, syrups, packaged goods and vegan and organic snacks. There was a cold fridge too that had some tofu options my vegan friend was freaking out about(in a good way.) GIFTS: I’m sure this may vary as well as most of the fresh merchandise at Marie’s. But there were some cute illustrated cards, handmade earnings, stocking hats, candles, tea accessories, cozy socks. FRIENDLIES: The staff is absolutely wonderful, down to earth, generous people. I really had some nice chats with the staff. And seriously guys — come visit in NYC! We’d love to host you. I also saw a community board with lots of events and services. Good place to find out what’s going on around town. Looking forward to going back next summer — what a special place, full of special, local, and delicious items :)

Having a natural foods store is such a rare small-town asset, and Cricket delivers incredible fresh baked food using local ingredients. We’re always surprised by what’s in the store when we go in.
