Great haircut but Too Pricey. It’s unfortunate because I like it here, they don’t push products on you, I had a great haircut and color, and everyone was very nice, however they are much more expensive than other area salons so I guess I will have to move on.

This salon experience was a major disappointment! I had a coupon for full color, Moroccan oil treatment, cut and manicure for $ 70 from an online discount site. My 1st mistake was buying salon services thru this type of site. As Tabatha Coffey states, «No salon that is good at what they do ever discounts their services.» With that said, I did look at this salon’s website first and was impressed with co-owner Kathy’s video. She came across warm and sincere. Unfortunately, I was not able to get an appt with her & was booked with a stylist/colorist«G», that I believe does NOT know how to cut and style naturally curly hair, though told by the salon manager Sharon, when making the appt, that she did. I specifically stated at the beginning of my appt that I wanted to donate my long hair, which I have done previously. My hair should have been cut in one long ponytail. That wasn’t made possible. The stylist’s first cut was not long enough for me to donate! GREAT! Next«G» discussed what I wanted and I was specific yet open to suggestions. I wanted shorter hair that was easy to do and for my color to be like my natural color. Made it clear that I had never had my hair colored before. «G» showed me a wheel of Aloxxi hair color swatches and she chose«Arrivederci Roots» which she said is «Two shades lighter than your own color.» I was concerned as I saw the swatch and asked if she was sure it wasn’t going to be too light. The color mixture was applied to my entire head and I was left under the hairdryer with no one nearby for approx 20 minutes. I finally asked someone in passing to please get my stylist as I was starting to feel a slight burning sensation and did not know if this was normal. I was told if it got worse to let her know. I was able to stick it out and once my hair was washed was thrilled not to see any white hair in the mirror. But, the color looked darker than my own and I asked about this as «G» stated she was going two shades lighter which this clearly was not. Time for the new hair style. I honestly don’t know what happened as «G» pointed out the other salon co-owner Lisa’s hairstyle and said mine would be similar. I asked for more definition as I wasn’t thrilled with the style for me. My haircut ended up being a very short bob that looked like two curly earmuffs one on each side of my head and lacked any real definition in back. And the color? When dry it was darker than my eyebrows and my own hair was never as dark as my eyebrows. Where the lights in the salon are so bright I wasn’t sure what my hair really looked like. I did go to use their rest room to look in the mirror but it was impossible as it was quite dark in there. Best part of the whole visit was Thenny and my manicure. She is a sweetheart but lacks confidence. My polish lasted almost 2 weeks and it was not a gel manicure. Bravo Thenny! At the reception desk Sharon the salon manager had a bag already filled with products to purchase. HUH? I wasn’t even instructed on what was used during my hair appt so what was all this? Sharon asked me «Didn’t „G“ tell you what products to use and how?» No. After looking over each item in the bag with Sharon, she went to ask«G» what to use first then 2nd after the obvious shampoo and conditioner, I decided to buy them because most were the same brand as my color and I thought that was important. Over $ 120 in products. Guess what? It isn’t necessary to use the same brand products as the brand of color you have in your hair. Lesson learned. I did write on the tip envelopes all positive comments because I I didn’t really know what my hair or color looked like until I got to my first stop and saw my hair in the well lit store mirrors. I was horrified! MYHAIRLOOKEDBLACK! And the style was not becoming on my face shape at all! After attempting to do my hair the next morning with the products sold to me I called the salon to ask if «G» used the wrong shade of color. It was not lighter but far darker and I was not happy. I also found the products not to be the right ones for my type hair. Made arrangements to go back and exchange all the products and to talk to «G» about my color. I was told with a straight face that the color used was the one she told me she chose. «G» said it was a «Demi-permanent» color and that it will fade. I asked her to please come out into the sunlight to see the color. She did and still believed that my hair was the color she chose. One of the products sold to me was for«Black» hair. That was not the right choice and was exchanged for the next lighter shade. My hair looked awful! Called the salon within the 1st week and spoke to Kathy and asked her to please fix my haircut and color. Made the trip back to the salon. I pointed out to Kathy that«G» never cleaned up the nape of my neck nor did I get the Morrocan oil treatment at my initial appt. My cut was not improved & my color was kept as is. I did get a refund by co-owner Lisa. SKIPLUMINA!

I love love love this place, everyone is super friendly and they actually remember you, and make you feel welcome when you walk through the door, even if you haven’t been here in a while. I had an amazing both times, that I’ve been here. The whole team goes an extra to make their cliental happy and keeps them coming back! :) I’ve worked with multiple of people here, but I love the work Ms. Maria does, with all of her clients and me/my hair. She is super friendly, very courteous and very good at her job, especially when you need to get your hair colored :) I will never ever go to another place to get my hair done, unless, I move to another state. I have been to many salons in the past, through groupon/living social and Unilocal recommendations alike, but none have lured me to come back again. This place surpasses all of my expectation, are very accommodating(especially when I was running late, on one of their busiest nights.) They always take a personal interest in their clients lives, provide the client is willing to share :) I love the fact that the place is so clean and the people check in on you often and ask if you would like wine while you wait :) can’t recommend this place enough. I love their work ethic and appreciate the time they take to explain all the details of the work you plan to get done.

I used an Amazon Local Voucher for a full-process color, Moroccan oil conditioning, cut/blow dry/style and a manicure(amazing deal at $ 70). I had Maria do my color, cut and style. I also had my nails done(forgive me, but I can’t remember her name!). Maria was very nice and welcoming. She was also very excited about doing my hair, which is really how you would hope a stylist acts! Maria said she’s been at the salon for about a year and a half. I really like my cut… Maria was able to take a lot of the weight off without cutting too much off the length(my hair is very long and thick). I also like the color, but am still getting used to it… I went a bit darker than I planned on, but that is on me. Maria also did an amazing head massage with my wash… always a treat when you get a nice head/neck massage! The girl who did my nails was very sweet and did a nice job. She also put two coats of the top coat polish on and my nails still look great, even though I was moving boxes this weekend. My only constructive criticism is that my appointment started about 20 – 25 minutes late. I think my stylist may have had a walk-in for a haircut(for a man, so probably didn’t think it would take too long), so I know that can’t be helped, but it would be nice to start at the scheduled time. I had a very good experience overall and would go back! I also know someone that has seen the owners/stylists, Lisa and Kathy for many years and swears by their work as well, although I can’t personally attest to their abilities.

I’ve searched for well over 3 years for a good salon and have paid rediculous prices for hair cuts that had a lot of mistakes to the cut. I have very thick hair– and a lot of it– and often times, there are entire sections of my hair that can get«dropped» in the cut. It’s disappointing to get home and realize that the haircut isn’t all that even, or that the shape only holds for about 7 to 10 days. I’m happy to say that those days are behind me now that I have found Lumina Salon. Lisa turned around my mess of a haircut into a style that exceeded my expecations. Lisa’s skills are remarkable as she has both outstanding technical capability and extraordinary vision. It’s a gift. The prices are reasonable– the salon is clean– and there’s a parking lot in the back of the salon. Also, appreciate the kindness of the front desk, who helped me find the right person in the salon for my hair issues. She was really nice. I’m very happy with Lumina Salon.

Great place to get eyebrows waxed. They do it right in Salon, which in my opinion, is fine! Quick– walkin service. They do a nice job

I came here to get my eyebrows waxed. I was looking for a place closer to home with better pricing than my previous salon. The salon is in a good location and the inside is nice enough. However, for waxes, you sit on a chair in the middle of the salon– no privacy at all. The girl that waxed my brows was nice but she missed a lot of stray hairs and it seemed like she hadn’t even touched the top of my brows. I was quite upset when I looked at myself in my car mirror but luckily they grew back quickly. It really is a «you get what you pay for» type of place. I’ll have to keep looking.

I had a lip wax here and felt that the service was very unprofessional. I was waxed in the middle of the salon with everyone watching(even Hair Cuttery brings you into the back for waxing!). I had to ask for aloe/cream and a mirror afterwards. Neither were offered, which if you ask me, are waxing 101. She was not meticulous and missed a lot of spots. The whole wax lasted 30 seconds. Will not be returning.

I learned about Lumina through a Living Social promotion they were offering. After reviewing them on Unilocal and hearing positive things from a coworker I decided to try it out. I really liked it! Sue, my stylist, did an awesome job on my cut, color and eyebrow wax. She was really friendly and had a bunch to talk about, which is great because sometimes it can be a bit awkward if you are a first timer at a salon. The rest of the staff was very friendly as well and they do a lot for the community which is a HUGE bonus. Also– they want to make your experience there as relaxing as possible. They offer you water, tea, coffee, and WINE(at a salon!- amazing!). This place is great, if you are close to the Reading area you should definitely check Lumina out.

This was my second visit. Amy spent so much time with me, making sure she did what was best for my hair. She listened to my concerns(ie I’m too cheap any busy for much upkeep) and she placed highlights so they would grow out gracefully. Of course, I paid for the extra time and attention. I’m sure this would have cost me a lot more on Newbury(I drove in from Boston), but I still had sticker-shock.

I got a «Living Social» deal for this place for a $ 30 wash/cut/and style, plus a basic manicure. It was a great deal! This place definitely appears too upscale for my taste/price range. When I walked in the front desk asked if I wanted water, coffee or wine. Jess did my manicure. I am no aficionado of manicures, as this was only my second in my life, but it was very relaxing. She informed me she does things differently than many other manicurists, with more steps and uses all natural products. She was also full of fun random tidbits throughout the process such as informing me that Marilyn Monroe started the short red nail trend(which is what I was having done.) I am also a notorious nail-picker, and almost a week later– my nails are still holding their color well! Which is quite impressive. My hair was cut and styled by Ann Marie. First of all– this may be a weird comment, but best shampoo I have ever had. There was a full scalp massage involved. I told her how I wanted my hair cut and she worked her magic. I complained in the past I often asked for layers and barely had visible ones. She definitely full-filled my desire for layers. I left with«Kardashian» Hair as she called it haha. No complaints! I also got the price list for all of their services, and it was actually much more affordable than I expected considering the atmosphere. Very good salon and employees. Recommended.

After a third visit to this salon, would not return. The front desk staff are extremely rude and condescending.

Kimberly Bruno Ruiz at Lumina is responsible for the fabulous color of my hair. She is a genius with color, to the point that I followed her over from Kenzos Salon in Stoneham when she moved, just to keep getting the star treatment I’ve been spoiled with — er — grown accustomed to, I mean, since seeing her. She managed to make my long, curly blond hair into the rockstar red you see in my photo. I love it! Next step — add purple for pop ;) I am a bit lukewarm on the actual new salon she’s at, Lumina(totally different and darker vibe than Kenzos, where she was before — not necessarily a bad thing but it would rock if it were more vibrant and fun). The 5 stars are definitely all about Kim!

I LOVELUMINA. I have lived near it all my life and never knew it was there — right on rt. 28 across from Bagel World. I went there for acrylic nails. Dottie does them and she is fabulous — very nice and easy to talk to…(an american that does acrylic nails? YES!). The salon is clean and it’s fairly priced. I would recommend it to anyone! can’t wait to go back and get my hair done!
