Plaza Azteca was located conveniently close to the Days Inn in Reading, where we stayed during the recent Reading Air Show. We’ve stopped here in previous years. While the food is milder than some of the more hard core«authentic» Mexican eateries we’ve visited, the dishes here are nicely presented, hot and fresh. We noticed many diners opting for guacamole made at tableside, which looks like a favorite. On this most recent stop, I ordered a sampler plate of three different enchiladas(Enchiladas Noretenas). It included a pork enchilada with red sauce, a chorizo and potato one with cream sauce, and a chicken one with a green sauce. The staff is friendly and the service is prompt. Very good considering it is a chain establishment(albeit a small one).

Love this place but have had take out and have eaten there several times and they skimp on the food every time we get take out. Not happy about that. Just barely had a few pieces of sausage in my choro pollo

Favorite full menu Mexican resturant in the area. The tableside guacamole is a MUST and really almost anything on the menu is fantastic.

Probably one of the worst restaurants I’ve eaten at. Three of us went and all of us experienced gastric distress for hours afterward. I asked for now sour cream on my meal and of course it came with sour cream drizzled all over. The waiter assured me they would make me a new meal and not just scrape it off. They bring me my meal back and it was evident that they just scraped it off and sprinkled their sour queso fresco on top. Run don’t walk from this place.

Had some pretty good chicken enchiladas here the other night with my family. It’s a clean establishment, good atmosphere, great service, and they can make just about any Mexican dish you can think of. The fresh guacamole is a must to have on the side. It’s super fresh, no brown spots or anything and with a slice of lime it makes the dishes here just that much better. If anyone is curious I think their business hours are from 11am-12pm. Not sure why that’s not included on here, but those should be the correct hours. I’ll be returning here again sometime soon to try their tasty looking mixed drinks!

In a word…“eh!”. Was in the area and the exterior caught our eye. The interior doesn’t match the outside though. Bland décor, water damaged ceiling tiles, but clean. Our waitress, Maria, was sweet and attentive. Passed the guy making fresh guacamole, but the HUGE tip jar on his cart turned me off, so passed on that. Entrees were ordinary. Red sauce tasted more Italian than Mexican. Service was quick but I’ve had better food. Many times.

Best Mexican restaurant in town! Best margaritas too! My husband and I always chose azteca when we’re hungry for a huge enchilada or burrito!(Try the Mexican bulldog Margarita!!)

This is a great Mexican restaurant. It is a chain around the country, but this location is especially good. Their salsas are always fresh and service is good. Restaurant is large and can seat many people so there is almost never a wait and if there is, it is usually less than 10 – 15 min. Good prices, good food, good service. ¡Muy bueno!

Visit#3: Still high marks! I had the combo#19, which was two chicken enchiladas covered with lettuce, rice and beans. For apps we had the freshly made guac and OMG nachos. Dessert was flan — good, but too much chocolate syrup. Would prefer without the chocolate syrup and o ly the standard flan sauce.

Plaza Azteca is my favorite place for Mexican in Berks County. Yes, Plaza is part of a chain, but it’s a *small* chain, not a nationwide deal like Chi Chi’s used to be be. 99.9% of the time I know *exactly* what I am getting before I walk in the door. I *love* the #19 Combo(two chicken enchiladas with lettuce, pico de gallo and sour cream. Served with rice and beans.) I’m drooling as I write this… On the lunch menu, the combo is a little smaller, served without the beans and goes by #6. ;) My other entrée of choice is their Enchiladas De Mole(three chicken enchiladas with mole sauce. Served with queso fresco and a side of rice.) The tortilla chips come with two different salsas, you get the traditional red tomato one like you are expecting, but they also give you a white sauce(it’s basically a spicy ranch). We really like them both. They do have outdoor seating if the weather is nice enough. This particular location used to be a Lone Star Steakhouse back in the day…

This place is so great. The rice and beans are amazing. The chimichangas are amazing. The drink I’m having is really smooth and strong enough. The staff are friendly. This is a great restaurant. The chips with salsa are ok. Good appetizer but not my favorite part of the meal.

One of my favorites, but the food is always lukewarm. Have to send it back. Clearly a server issue.

I dined here today with two close friends. We really enjoyed ourselves. Our waitress was both friendly & attentive. She kept our glasses full(huge pet peeve of mine) For drinks we ordered a Coke, a pink lemonade & a strawberry margarita. I was told that the margarita was«PERFECT!» Everything we ordered was delicious! We started out with the complimentary chips & two different types of salsa. Personally I think the red salsa was much better than the white. The red could have had a bit more of a kick but the white was just too heavy — at first I thought it was ranch but then I thought it had a mayonnaise base. We ordered the OMG nachos, fried rice & two other entrees. Everything came out in a very timely manner m; it came out quickly. Everything was fresh and hot. I was really impressed by my lunch experience today. The food was so yummy & fresh. There’s absolutely no reason to go anywhere but here for authentic + delicious Mexican food in Berks!

This is a nice Mexican Restaraunt Given the choices out here in farm country. The food was delicious and they give plenty of chips and two dips. One salsa and one cool ranch type which compliment each other nicely. Definitely be back. They have a full service bar. The sangria was average and pricey for the amount given and a little too commercial in flavor. Stick to the Modelo Especial instead

The last time I dined at Plaza Azteca was when they first opened in 2009-10. This was before the proliferation of smartphones and review apps. First things first, our server was great — warm, friendly and soft spoken. She checked on us promptly without being intrusive. I think we could all learn a thing or two from her! Once your seated, complimentary homemade chips and salsa are served. It’s always nice to have a little something to snack on while you wait for your meal. I ordered the kale salad with shrimp — very refreshing. Fresh kale on a bed of lettuce with shredded cheese and croutons. The added shrimp which circled the rim of the plate was well seasoned and juicy. On to the main course. I ordered steak tacos which came garnished with onion and cilantro, the traditional Mexican way. The meat was missing something. I’m not quite sure what though. Lack of seasoning or maybe just overcooked, nonetheless they tasted great once I squeezed lime on them. For dessert, I ordered Xango, which essentially is a fried cheesecake. It came drizzled in caramel and chocolate sauce with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Utterly amazing. 4 stars because I think the dishwasher needs to be retrained or maybe the servers needs to double check the utensils before setting the tables. The knives and forks were filthy to say the least. Come on man, you can’t serve great food then look over these little things…

About the best thing that I can say is that the service was really good. I was excited to see«carne asada» on the menu. I have had it in great Mexican restaurants across this country, and particularly in Mexico. I should have been skeptical when the menu said«ribeye» meat. Carne asada it’s typically, and should be made with either skirt or flank steak. I got two circles of meat that looked and tasted like rubber. Please don’t ever get that plate here. The chips and salsa were okay, and the ranch sauce that accompanied the salsa was more like mayonnaise on steroids. The fried ice cream was all right. Like I said, the service was warm and friendly.

This is my second visit to Reading and we brought my boyrfriend along for the trip and he liked it as well! The burritos are gigantic, the ambiance is festive, and the customer service is welcoming. To add, FREE salsa and chips!

This place amazes me. The dining room is sprawling, yet no matter the night, you will be seated almost immediately. Even on Friday and Saturday nights when the parking lot is packed, I have never had to wait more than five minutes to be seated. When I see a busy restaurant and get seated so quickly, I have a fear that the service will suffer(are they just trying to get butts in seats? is the staff going to be stretched too thin? How can the kitchen possibly keep up?). But somehow, some way, the food gets out in a timely fashion, and the servers are able to check up on you at regular intervals. Behind the scenes, the management must spend a lot of time training their staff, because the service really is phenomenal. Similarly sized chain restaurants in the area often collapse under the pressure of a packed house. But not here. The best fajitas in town are still at Alebrije, but for delicious homemade, table-side guacamole and a more expansive Mexican menu, Plaza Azteca can’t be beat.
