Sofrito Gastro Pub

I love Sofritos — especially any dish containing barbecued meat or their Mojito Monday drink specials! The owner and the bartenders are great, and it’s got a local feel. Taco Tuesday’s are also delicious and cheap! Good times and great upper level bar food at Sofritos! Oh and if the weather is nice, they’ve got an outside bar and deck in the back with a great mural!

You must go on their taco Tuesday. You can not get a better taco for a $ 1 in town! Doesn’t matter which one you try, you’ll love all of them. I personally enjoy the bean taco the best, and my boyfriend looooves the pork. They taste so fresh and authentic. Great customer service every time, and the décor is gorgeous. Yummy!

I had one bad experience where our waitress had us wait 20 minutes for drinks, another 20 for menus, and then we waited over an hour for appetizers (she forgot to put in our food order), so we left our drink money and went elsewhere…
Since I decided to go back, Sofrito’s food is consistently delicious. Although, I wish they had agave to use in their margaritas in place of sour mix. I like the new location in Mohnton because I don’t have to go in the hood to get the grub anymore.

I eat here a lot! The taco’s are simply the best. You can tell the owner, who is also the chef, is a hell of a guy because of the care he puts into his food. Most of the bartenders are great but a few are really subpar if you’re used to great service. The hispanic food is a music try and the beer selection is very impressive. Nothing beats sitting outside in the back patio in the sun on a nice day and having a couple authentic fish soft tacos. Great place to try and come back to!

The Cubans here are amazing-​one of the best I have ever had. The empanadas are good as well. The downside is the service and kitchen can be slow. Only 2 servers and one was the bartender so even with a small number of customers it took awhile.

Outstanding food. Great flavor and authentic. Loved the outdoor seating as well as the brew selection. Wish it was closer, I’d be a regular customer. I tried the Cuban with tostones plus the black beans those were dried beans for sure, super delicious!

We came here due to an event we were attending in the area and we’re glad we did. Server was attentive but the kitchen was a bit slow. We had their salads and the viandas appetizer, both the Caesar & urban salads are a thumbs up, the viandas were a bit to over fried. We each had either their pork or chicken dishes and they were excellent. Will definitely come back when I’m in town.

We enjoyed our meal here. Started out with nachos… fresh fried chips with a tiny bit of salsa verde, maybe three very tiny pieces of tomato, and canned spray cheese on them. They were supposed to come with more salsa verde and sour cream, but didn’t. They were still very good. We had arroz con polllo. Man, it was good. I have never eaten chicken and rice before and can’t compare what they served with anywhere else… I only know it tasted incredible.
The place is divey, but I would go back there in an instant.

Just finished our meal and it was fabulous. I would highly recommend. Bartender was very attentive and personable. Food was fabulous and large in portion. Chicken mango quesadilla is highly recommended. A cozy restaurant nestled in the middle of a neighborhood. Hope you enjoy. Your visit as much as we did!

Went to the new Sofrito in Mohnton. Food is excellent. I never went to the one in Reading because of the location, but now I have one right by my house which is great. It’s nice to have a good Spanish restaurant in the area. I will be a regular customer for sure!

Easily my favorite restaurant in the tri-​county area. Great atmosphere, great food, great price. I never leave unsatisfied.
They have live music frequently so this makes a great date spot. I’ve been going here for three years with my significant other.
The outdoor seating is divine in the warmer months.
Awesome selection of local and micro brewed beers.
A few things to keep I mind tho:
1) Service speed can be inconsistent. Sometimes it takes 30 minutes to get service. Sometimes I’m in and out in 30 minutes. Call ahead to see if they’re busy.
2) All the food is fresh and never frozen, so they have run out of my favorites from time to time. Call ahead and ask what they are out if it is that important.
3) Parking can be pretty bad. Plan for that.

Nice experience on veranda! Food is exquisite. All the non pork and non shellfish options. due to my dietary restrictions.

We tried this place for the first time tonight.
The Caesar salad was fresh and tasted like the croutons wee homemade
The pork taco was delicious– the meat was full of flavor and the tortilla was fresh.
The mofongo was awesome and I got a ton of food! I normally don’t eat the rice and beans but they were so good! The pork was amazing and the mofongo itself was very flavorful.
My dinner companion got the Cuban sandwich and said it was really good. I tried the pork from it and it was tender and delicious. Even the fries were hand cut and excellent!
Everything was well seasoned, hot and fresh. Plus the prices are very reasonable.
Our server was appropriately attentive.
We will definitely be going back!

I first heard of Sofrito Gastro Pub through the Greater Reading Young Professionals (GRYP) after they hosted a few events. They were always very generous with their food and drink at these events, and I must say, GRYP as a whole is very appreciative.
Gastropubs were traditionally bars/​restaurants that served a combination of high-​end beer and food. So, does it live up to its billing? In the food department, definitely. As for the drinks? Well, it’s getting there.
The cuisine is Latin-​American inspired. Most dishes are infused with traditional ingredients such as cilantro, sweet peppers, onion, and garlic. Mixed with meats such as beef and pork… well, you have the foundation for some amazing tacos.
In addition to the succinct yet delicious food menu is the «pub» part of «gastro pub». Yes, I’m talking about beer. You’ll find your standard domestic drafts, but also Yards Tavern Porter, Sole Clink, Great Lakes Sharp Shooter, Dark Horse Amber Ale, Clown Shoes Brown Angel, Racer 5, among others,
As with any prosperous pub, beer selections are rotated on a regular basis.
Sofrito manages to keep everything fresh, while at the same time offering up old-​time comfort food classics cooked to perfection and made with love.

What a hidden gem!
Ordered the jalapeño crab balls (AMAZING), and the Mussels entrée with a chipotle side caesar (even MORE AMAZING).
Service was punctual and extremely friendly, and everything came out in a timely manner.
Will definitely be back… Maybe tomorrow!

The place had almost no area to park but nevertheless I wanted to enjoy my last day with my brother so we did our best to park in a very very narrow street. The scenery was very festive, fun, my waiter was very sweet when ordering our foods. The food was extremely good and the backyard patio was amazing especially spending the last day with my brother before he went to college!
I couldnt order a beer even though I was over 21 beace my brother was still underage. Apparently you the waiter had to card the whole group in order to get alcohol for lunch?

Very nice, from scratch true Latin loved cooking. Cuban, tacos, THE BRISKET are absolutely phenomenal.
Top it off with some nice Micro Brew selection and the deck outback and you got yourself a gem in the middle of Reading Pa.
Keep it up Chef !!

I will admit up front that I’m being a little bit of a booster with this place, because I want to promote Reading restaurants, particularly those of Latin American influence. I might normally give such a place 3 stars instead of 4. That said, I do think this place is genuinely worth a visit, if only for the bangin’ Cuban sandwich and very pleasant outdoor atmosphere.
Service was good. My friend and I were seated outside immediately, and our waiter was always there with refills, was polite, and brought our food out in a timely fashion. This was particularly impressive given the busy time we arrived — 6:30 on a Saturday
The outdoor seating area is very pleasant — you’ve got this little garden area with very pretty murals (see the pictures) right below the dining area.
My friend and I shared the sofrito chicken empanadas and the fried avocado appetizers. These were both fine — nothing to write home about, in my opinion. He then got the mango chicken quesadilla, which was pretty good. But where Sofrito really hit it out of the park, as others have mentioned, was with my Cuban sandwich. The meat was tender, and all the flavors — pickle, cheese, meat, mayo — were well balanced. The fries it came with were also pretty good.

How could this not show up as 5 stars?!! Best place in reading. Sooooo good. I love the big juicy fresh burger and fresh cut fries. Lyndsey is the best server/​bartender ever!

On our last minute trip to PA we stopped in this little GEM for a restaurant. If you follow my account you know I love my Hispanic food and this spot was on point! The inside of the restaurants has a feeling of a PUB it’s clean and full of artifacts from Reading PA throughout the years.
First off the bartender was very good! She attended us right away, very friendly. We ordered our food, once arrived the food was perfectly seasoned. We had the Viandas plate, the chicken empanadas, soft tacos and the Mofongo (we were hungry). Well let me tell ya everything was delicious! I just wish NC had places like this.
Overall I will recommend this place and come again on our next PA trip.
