If you want highly priced warm beer. This place is for you. Multiple other bars in the area that offer much cheaper prices. Severely understaffed at the bar as well.

Doesn’t look good on outside… and not too good on inside, so in this case we can safely judge the place by its cover. Bartender was nice and Irish theme is certainly present, but the food is terrible.

Took a business client to Trooper Thorn’s on 9.23 and sat on the deck. Alec was our server, and he was wonderful — enthusiastic and attentive — I recommend Alec’s section. The food was typical«bar» food but nothing to complain about. The service is what made Trooper Thorn’s special!

Had lunch with my family Aug. 12. Server was friendly & attentive. Hubby & I had the Burger of the Day and were treated to a large handmade burger cooked just right with plenty of fries. My son got a dozen wings that were a good size. And of course we took advantage of a couple of $ 2 Killian’s. All in all we left very full and very satisfied.

This place is a dumpy college bar. When the owner years ago actually worked the bar and kitchen, it was a respectable ace to take your family. They used to do mad carved roast beef sandwiches. Ate their for the first time in 3 years and it was sliced lunch meat dipped in gravy. Owner is checked out and just taking money from the 20 something crowd. Food sucks now.

This is one of the better Irish Pubs in the area, they can be abut pricy with mixed drinks but the beer is priced perfectly. Alvernia is near by so there can be a younger crowd and it can get busy on weekends but if that’s what you are looking for it is a great spot. Where it really shines though is outside on the patio, on a beautiful night it is great to have a few drinks and enjoy the fresh air.

I used to rant and rave about this place to everyone. The food is amazing, great beer selection, etc… It was the first place i wanted to go after I got home from Iraq both times! Unfortunately we then we had TWO bad experiences in a row. We asked for a manager and were told none was available. We then tried to call for a manager or owner, again conveniently no one was available. We then went to the website which was«under construction» and had no email address. We then went to their facebook page. It’s 2014 and apparently they are the only business who doesn’t check their facebook, because we couldn’t get a response from them on there either. So we have now given up completely on the place, which is a shame because we did love it there so much. Our two bad experiences were only a few days apart… the first bad experience we had, my girlfriend and I came by to get food and drinks, like we usually do twice a week. The bartenders all knew us pretty well as we had been going there about a year straight at this point. However, this time when i went to the bathroom, the bartender decided it would be a good idea to come around the bar, put his arm around my girl friend and slide his phone number in her pocket and tell her if she ever leaves me, he’s always been interested. I came back to the table and of course she handed me the number and told me immediately what had happened. I swore it must have been a joke to be that ignorant, so i almost laughed in disbelief and continued our dinner. Halfway through our dinner she asked if i would grab her coat as it got cold in the back bar. When i got back from the car sure enough he was over there again asking her to breakfast the next morning and was refusing to take her no thank you as an answer. We immediately grabbed our check, didn’t even finish our meals, and we left. The next time we came in, we decided to stay up front and not deal with him(Joe) at the back bar. We had Brain instead at the front bar who was amazing as usual. However, the place was packed and there was no where to sit. We found two seats at the bar, order food and drinks. Right as our food came out a bouncer tapped me on the shoulder and said we couldn’t sit there because it was too close to the dj who was going to be there in an hour. That’s right… in an hour!!! I said well there are no tables and our food just came, he told us we could stand and eat if we wanted but we had to move. So as we stood and tried to eat, which was very hard with scolding hot plates, the bouncer, and two of his friends who i’m assuming were just«hanging out» with him, decided to make a ton of inappropriate comments to my girlfriend as she ate. I turned around to ask them to please be respectful and they all looked around like oh who said something, we didn’t say anything… like we’re all in 2nd grade now. Then she bent down to pick something up and again more comments. So now she turned around ans asked them to stop, same thing all over again oh it wasn’t us hahaha… We were just blown away by the unprofessionalism by the staff on these two occasions in the same week. It’s very upsetting that not one manager or owner can return a call or message either. We really did enjoy that place long ago.

My 2 issues involved customer service problems. The actual food and drink selection is pretty great, to be honest. The waitress comes over and asks what we’d like to drink. We say«what specials do you have?». She names some flavored vodka combo for $ 3.00 or something. Amazing! We will have that! Cue to 3 hours later… We ask to get our check and are overwhelmed by the cost of the drinks. Suddenly it’s like $ 3 more and our waitress explains that she was giving us doubles instead of singles. Here’s the thing though, we told her SPECIFICALLY that we wanted the special. We were never asked if we wanted a single or a double, and if that was the case, we asked for the night’s special. Honestly, she was nice and attentive all night, so imagine my surprise at this mistake. I was upset and asked for the manager. Eyes were rolled, she disappeared into the back and no manager came out to remedy this situation. Situation was eventually solved. I just kind of felt like it A.) shouldn’t have happened in the first place and B.) was handled kind of rudely. Also, went out with my friend who was single at the time. Sat at the bar, some dude tried to hit on me but i explained i had a boyfriend but maybe he could buy my friend a drink. No problem, she gets a shot and I don’t have to deal with any creepy dudes. We go out to the deck(which is really nice, btw) and have another drink or two and then it’s time to pay when LOWANDBEHOLD, there are two shots of Fireball Whiskey on my tab. Strange, considering i didn’t buy two shots of that but that d-bag at the bar sure did. Turns out after we left him at the bar all by his lonesome, he tells the bartender it’s on me and instead of double checking and making sure, she didn’t. They had ran my tab(admittedly I didn’t look carefully when signing since, so bad on my part) so essentially this guy gets away with theft and I get a measely drink token as a parting gift. Wow, thanks! anyways, place has good food/beer selection, but maybe they need to focus on some better customer service training. it’s a shame, because other than those two isolated incidences, I really enjoy Troopers.

Not a deep menu, but that’s just how I like it: to the point. Great food, beer and service. I recommend. If you’re looking for pristine polish, this isn’t for you.

Had a great time here. Had a beer on special that was very reasonable. The bartenders were great. Also had dinner at the bar and was absolutely not disappointed. In the end, I had a tasty meal and beer for great value. I will definitely be back next time I am in the area!

Went to the bar there, got a beer and it was totally warm. Warmer then room temperature. Took 1 sip and took the beer back. They would not even replace it with another beer, and very rude about it. My prior experiences here have been above average, but this was inexcusable. I can see the oversight of giving someone a warm beer, but to do nothing about it and be rude is inexcusable.

The gold standard in Irish Pubs! I Love pubs, I have traveled the world over to visit them. It is rare to find one as amazing as this stateside. Don’t walk RUN to trooper thorns! You will be glad you did! Amazing Menu, accommodating staff, and a perfect atmosphere.

Ended up here twice on my visit to the area. The patio is an excellent hang out spot for late night. Beer selection is good with both locals and a few decent imports. I was prsuaded to try the fish n chips, which was very yummy and a nice portion.

Great bartenders. Great location. Live music in the summer on the weekends. Covered deck. Feels kind of cramped inside that makes it hard to get around sometimes, though. There is always a longer line for the men’s room than the women’s room.

Place has a large selection of beers to choose from. Very good place to try out different brews, however, food was only average. I have been here multiple times(all of them an empty restaurant) and noticed with the place empty, it smelled like a restroom all throughout. Apparently they mop everything with the same mop. I’m sure the smell goes away when the place gets crowded, but with it empty, the place stinks. It is a nice place besides that though.

Trooper Thorns is my «home away from home.» The staff and owners make you feel like part of their family. The patrons I have talked with range in ages from 21 to well into their mature years. Everyone that I have witnessed are all well behaved and add to the friendly atmosphere. The menu is diverse and provides for excellent comfort. Draft and bottled beer selection is ample and allows for customers to broaden their horizons and experience something new or to stick with your tried and tested brew. My favorite items are: Shepherd’s Pie, fish and chips, «Troopers-Burger» and the beef and cheese. Fine dining upstairs or your traditional Irish pub seating downstairs as well as deck seating in the warmer months.

This bar hosts a monthly 5k on the third thursday in the summer months. The $ 10 race fee includes a free beer at the end. That’s insanely cheap. I had to partake. Great beer selection. Truly. Lots of great Irish and English selections ice cold and ready to make your night a bit fuzzier. I can’t speak of the food — I came to run and get sloshed. Both I did in top fashion, mind you. Looking forward to the 2012 season.

Good place to meet friends after work. Decent menu and drink selection. The seating wasnt very comfortable — either hard wooden chairs/booth, plastic lawn chairs or picnic tables. Probably more suited to a younger crowd.
