Stopped by for a late lunch and beer with a friend. Bartender was helpful(great selection of on tap beer) and food was great.

I must admit this place has gone down hill. I was a regular here and after my latest visit I will not be returning. It seems in the past two months the quality of the food has gone down and there has been major change in the staff. I would drive almost a half an hour to eat here and I always go on weekends especially if I knew Hank the bartender was working. He pretty much was the only reason I was still going after the food went south but they let him go as well. The other bartenders(especially female ones) were not nearly as attentive as Hank nor do they have the personality to work behind a bar. If I wanted to wait 15 minutes to get a drink I would go to the city. Ridiculous. Sadly I will not be returning to this place, we had a good run Wunderbar, but clearly it’s over.

I hope this place sticks around! Nice atmosphere, friendly staff. I had the fish and chips and they were some of the best I’ve eaten. Tasty cod, light, non-greasy batter coating. The chips were good. My husbands burger was great too. I want to try the mac and cheese next time. Always looking for good mac and cheese!

It’s sad to say, but in just over 2 years, my opinion of this place has done a complete 180. The business must not be doing well, because the prices keep going up, the portions are getting smaller, and the quality of the food is way sloppier. No lie, I visited for LUNCH today, and my friend and I both got chicken fingers and some beers. 3 beers to be exact– granted it was Chimay Grand Reserve– but that’s beside the fact. The total was $ 65! Not including tip. The bartender told us the fries were«included» but we still got hit for the $ 14 basket each. They were so soggy that we donated half of them to the trash can. I already have a tough time inviting people out to this spot for happy hours given their champagne prices for a Budweiser town like whitehouse station. I predict they’ll be out of business by the summer at this rate. Way to ruin a good thing Niks

Not sure what this place is supposed to be. It is kind of German, but mostly sports bar. Wait staff is friendly, but not real knowledgeable about the menu. Seems too always be busy for happy hour. That must be the niche.

I live out this way, Warren County that is. Ja ich bin a long time German foodie! They do a very nice job with their traditional German menu options. Portion is abundant. The atmosphere is fantastic as I felt I was in Munich. Not a noisy place, yes you can have nice family get togethers. A very nice treat. Schnitzel, all kinds of wursts and potato salad. Easy to find it right on Rt. 22! Ramp access for those with walkers! Vielen Dank! Prost!

Great beer selection. Excellent pretzel. Fine potato pancake. The wurst selection was delicious. Get the red cabbage on the side. Service was great. Well worth a visit if your in town.

Alright, I’ll get it out of the way — I’m a bit of a beer snob. I generally find that even self labeled«beer houses» in jersey tend to be extremely lackluster in their on tap selections. Nik’s was quite the opposite: a very wide spread of beers from all over the place(from a Raritan, NJ microbrew, up to some harder to find Belgian’s)…10 bucks for a flight so you can try 4 different beers in my mind was a GREAT deal as they had several beers I’d never tried before. For food, we just had the potato pancakes which were fine — nothing exceptional, but certainly something I’d much on while watching a game or something. Sausage platters looked good — will definitely try one next time. If you’re a beer fan, this place is a gem — LOTS of different beers on tap(including a few commons… Miller Lite, which is described on the menu as «Yadda yadda great taste, less filling»). Bartender was VERY knowledgeable about what he had, and was also willing to give sip sized tastings before you ordered anything. A real pleasure to see a place locally that has such a variety, so much knowledge, and such a relaxed atmosphere! The ONLY reason I’m not giving 5 stars is an extremely limited menu — especially if you have a vegetarian in your group. When we were there they were out of their bar pies… meaning the options were either deep fried(mozz sticks or potato pancakes) or extremely lame sounding salads(cucumber, caesar, or house). I know it’s traditional German faire, and that«Vegetarian» or even«fish eating vegetarian(like my wife)» don’t generally fit into that — but a few options would really make it easier to head here. They did have a couple more options, but only on the lunch menu unfortunately.

If you ever find yourself out in the country here, Nik’s is certainly worth a visit. They have the best selection of beer in the area with over 35 taps that are constantly rotating. I can’t comment on the food yet as I’m usually only here for a drink but from what I’ve seen it seems to be on par with any other pub food just with a German influence. There’s a decent sized bar to sit around, lots of tables, and even a Biergarten outside to enjoy in the warmer months. The staff, along with all of the patrons are amongst the friendliest you will find. Very fitting for a small town bar. You will always feel welcome at Nik’s.

I know where I’m going for Oktoberfest! Totally worth the trip out Rte 22 for 39 taps of craft and imported beers, great traditional German food and friendly people. In good weather you can sit outside on their back patio aka Biergarten, it has the standard long and ridiculously uncomfortable wood benches but no grass nor trees so calling it a garden is a stretch :) Ever had pear cider? Found it for the first time on tap here at Nik’s Wunderbar, an amazingly fruity sparkling drink called Christian Drouin Poire that I really enjoyed, not too sweet, light on alcohol, yummy. Other taps included imports like Hofbrauhaus Oktoberfest, Paulaner Hefe-Weizen, Schneider Aventinus and even Chimay. Domestic crafts on offer were beers like Left Hand Milk Stout, Kane, Sierra Nevada and much more. Get a flight for $ 10 and see how far you can get thru the list!(Confession: I didn’t get far, have to go back.) We visited on a Saturday and it was quiet which really surprised me, with such fantastic choices it should have been hopping. Good service from new staff waitress Samantha(thanks). The potato pancakes were excellent, an order had four thick, perfectly fried potato bombs, accompanied by sour cream and(unfortunately) factory applesauce. Tried the Bauern Platter, a huge plate loaded with a Bratwurst, a grilled slice of Fleischkaese and a Kassler Rippchen(smoked grilled pork chop). The meats were tender and perfect; sides, less so: sauerkraut hadn’t quite been cooked enough, and the Bratkartoffel(home fries) had been cooked to mush. Some training needed in the kitchen there. A dessert of Schwarzwaelder Kirschtorte(black forest cherry cake) was mediocre at best, no fresh whipped cream and nearly no cherry filling; don’t come here for desserts. Vegetarian rating: Nein, no entries. Generously viewed, 2 stars for pretzel sticks, fried apps like mozz sticks, mushrooms and potato pancakes(don’t ask what oil they’re fried in), a plain pizza on the kid’s menu, a salad or two, many sides like potato salad(if it doesn’t have bacon) and red cabbage.

Going for the 2nd night this week. Jäger schnitzel with potato pancakes and creamed corn with a weis beer are my favorites.

I frequent Nik’s almost every week and never get tired of it. I must say however I rarely eat when I am there, it’s a great craft beer bar located not too far from home. I always take a seat at the bar, and their bar manager Matty is wonderful. They have over 35 beers on tap and they are always changing, making sure the beer is fresh and delicious. I always get the sampler, which is $ 10 for 4 samples, and with the beers always rotating I usually can get 4 that I haven’t tried before. If it’s summer make sure you sit out on the back patio, it’s the perfect place to relax and sit next to one of their fire pits. Plus, on weekends they have live music on the patio. Their food is good, but it’s the service and the great beer that always keeps me coming back!

If you like German food and beer, this is the place for you. Second time here, both times left very happy! There is a good selection of beer available. Today I had a knock wurst sandwich(on a roll) with German potato salad and a warsteiner beer. It was nice so we ate outside in back. The potato salad has just the right balance of bacon, vinegar, and potato– very tasty. Good service too. Prices are reasonable. We also had potato pancakes and(maybe not«authentic») chicken schnitzel, and both were great!

Have been here several times and I’ve realized it’s the beer selection(more than anything else) that has brought me back. Last time we went there, we we’re served chicken wings that were absolutely terrible(super tiny and lacking meat — so bad that I would not serve them to «in-laws»), and when we politely complained to the manager, he simply said«well, that’s what my supplier gave me». He said he could make more, but they would be the same way. So, we skipped the wings and just ordered the pretzels, which were served warm on the outside and nearly frozen on the inside. The manager made no attempt to make amends for the lousy food and acted as if he couldn’t care less. Not impressive. Again, the beer is worth going for, but not much else.

Can’t beat the beers at Wunderbar! Consistently the best selection in the area. The servers are super-attentive and accommodating to large groups or small. I recommend: Beer Flights: they have 35+ taps — get 4 beers(small pours) and still be able to drive yourself home. Potato Pancakes: like your German grandma used to make! The Beer Garden out back: when it’s warm, this is a great place to hang out with some friends and a few beers.

Randomly found this pub when apple picking in the area. It’s a large pub atmosphere where you could either be a part of the bar area or the table area. Sports on TV. Very casual experience. The menu is small and that’s just fine. It’s authentic German food — brats, schnitzels, pretzels, Reubens, etc and a HUGE beer list. They will let you sample a beer if you ask. The portions are gigantic. It’s heavy food for sure and we had it for lunch, but I didn’t feel as though it drug me down the rest of the day. The food is heavy but not greasy. I expected to have a stomach ache from the sheer volume of food, but it sat very well with me! The beer was very expensive though. The prices are not listed on the beer menu. My cider was $ 9! We will definitely be back — the food was very much enjoyable. I might skip the beer next time, though.
