I saw Dr. Rivera for the first time today with my 12 year old who has been complaining of chest pain. I found her to be completely incompetent and uninformed. The backdrop is that I(her mom) have several cardiac issues. I have an implanted defibrillator for a life threatening ventricular arrythmia and POTS which is dysfunction of the autonomic nervous system that results in sinus tachycardia. The first question she asked me is if I had the defibrillator for POTS or something else. A defibrillator would never be clinically indicated for just POTS. Secondly, she told me that my arrythmia would just make me faint. Again, an incorrect statement. It would kill me in less than two minutes which is why I have the defibrillator. She diagnosed my daughter with mitral valve prolapse but was kind of dismissive about that adding, «at least she was born with a valve.» I could go on and on about this appointment but the bottom line is that there was no value to be had. Her knowledge might be okay with a structural abnormality but limited beyond that and her bedside manner was atrocious.
