Should have been called«Alternatives to Love.» My partner and I were having a rough time. I arranged for marriage counseling, but she chose to go to Alternatives to Violence and falsely claimed she was a victim of domestic violence. I ended up there, too, coincidentally, because I’m afraid of the rage in my partner that I’ve never seen before. Rather than hear my side of the story, Alternatives to Love certified her as a victim of domestic violence. Mind you, she wasn’t, but there is no procedure for me to contest my partner’s false accusations. So she gets to walk away from a 12 month lease and I have to pay for her rent and utilities until this lease expires. From the moment I walked into their office, I felt a coldness and uneasiness from the staff. Guys, you know what I mean. We’re guilty until proven innocent. The staff member offered me NO(zero) alternatives, except to tell me to «stick it out.» I wonder how many women have been given this same advice. This place is definitely designed to protect the women, not the men, involved in domestic violence. I would have given them 1 star, but I figure they do protect«real» battered women.
