I’m from out of the state. So my grandpa took me here since I was visiting. The food was great. It was fresh and seasoned just right. The staff were polite and kind. The place was really clean. I had a wonderful experience here. When I come back to visit my grandpa I will definitely be back.

Really surprised how nicely prepared the food was! The staff was professional and totally on point. I had a big group dinner there as well and they handled it perfectly. My only negative comment is that the dining room could use some sprucing up.

This is our favorite restaurant — period. The best of everything. Inspired dishes, highest quality ingredients and the most knowledgable servers. The best bar too. They totally know what they’re doing and bring it all together every time. Reminiscent of a fine NYC steakhouse for steak, fish, fowl or vegetarian.

Spectacular. This guy can seriously cook. Really simple, gorgeously prepared, lush, earthy, and just delicious. Lovely wine list. We’ve been coming through this area for years and this is some of the best food I’ve had. Go.

We love this restaurant. It’s an annual vist for us every fall at about this time. Last evening our party of six gave the menu a workout, trying the ravioli, the duck, the lasagna… and the skate. All entrées were outstanding, with the skate perhaps taking the cake. Side dishes were equally delicious, but the desserts truly capped off an excellent dinner. My only complaint is the noise level, but that’s a minor quibble.

One of the best genuine Italian Restaurants in the Hudson Valley. From the wonderfully sourced food, the beverage procurement, and efficient waitstaff, you won’t be disappointed. I have frequented here over the past four years and I have never had a mediocre experience.

Stopped by on a recommendation. Every single thing was perfect. Service, salad, pasta,(accommodated vegan diet), wine recommended by server, espresso. Just fantastic!

My mom and I had had a super long day with family, with driving, with weather… we decided to stop at Mercato on our trek home. We were seated inside, which was — for us — too noisy. I asked if there was a table outside, and to our good fortune, there was. We ordered simply as we still had a bit of a drive. Wasn’t sure which wine to order, and was given clear descriptions, opinions and tasting. They were spot on. We ordered two different pastas — that to this moment — other than Bologna, Italy — were the best pastas we’ve ever tasted. Melt in your mouth perfect, with fresh herbs and everything that a dish could hope to be. Thank you for a memorable evening.(and the only reason I“m giving a 4 vs. 5, is that inside, the restaurant was too noisy to hold a conversation easily).

Agree the food was good. That said the service was simply not good. I had a 7:30 reservation and was asked to wait in the street until 8pm. The temperature outside was in the 80’s the temp inside was unbearable. Not even a fan to create a breeze and the windows cannot open. I do not know what they were thinking. One of the people in my party had to leave due to heat exhaustion. Then I paid the check which was significant. I say if you are going to play the«little country place to eat«card then don’t charge $ 55.00PP If you’re going to play«the big city chef in the country» card then upgrade the wiring and have some respect for the folks who are your patrons.

I always make sure I get a meal in at Mercado when I’m in the area. The food is fantastic, the wine list is fantastic, the staff is fantastic. Have been a fan of the Chef for many years. Quality ingredients and quality food without being uptight. Exactly what I want on a weekend retreat from the city.

the sad part of this review is that I have been supporting this place since inception,(although i was never recognized cause the staff is ever changing) and have loved the food. But for the last four or five times, the disappointment knows no bounds. I keep trying though… but not anymore. i had a group of 10 during the wdst film festival(about 4 years ago, so this is the first incident), in the back room. Our orders were finally taken around 8 pm… then the waiter came back to tell us that some of the dishes they had already run out!(by 8pm??), and my special dish that i ordered and kept calling to make sure they had it on the notes for… they did not have. I don’t eat meat, but the only place i would ever eat it was here, and the dish was the veal milanese… it would be a major treat for me. well that was embarrassing! and my request for that dish failed two more times, as well as the when it was finally made for me, it was by a jr. cook, and it was really gross on the first bite and i returned it. Since then, its been a constant disappointment for one reason or another, but generally its the management. I used to love talking to the ‘kids’ that worked there, and most studying at the CI A… but the chef/owner is such a PILL! rude, nasty, unpredictable. The last straw was having him come up to me, and two friends at the bar, and literally berate my friend for absolutey no reason. I mean just went off on a tyrate! the hostess at the time was so dead pan about everything, and condescending. i have no idea if she still works there, but i recall her to be blonde, thin lipped, zero personality(this was back in july of 2014)…but to have the owner fly out of his little kitchen and literally attack was out of control. We ordered a bottle of wine, and did not like it. we asked to order another, but we would pay for the first one, no problem. halfway into the new bottle is when he flew out and screamed about how dare we give our wait staff issues about the wine. seriously? and we paid for the wine. this is not the first time however, i have witnessed him freaking out at customers. well, i have tried again and again with this place, cause i do love the food, and love the little house its in, and i love to support local, but that was the last straw!

Not even sure where to start– appetizers? Bruschetta with chicken livers? Beyond word! The penne arrabiata? The bolgnese? The tagliatelle fungi? The special fra diavoli? Best Italian! Shush– don’t want to let the secret out.

The home made pasta dishes are perfect. I’ve had a seafood pasta, and the bolognese on a different occasion. I was very happy with these choices. Lively atmosphere. I’ll be back soon.

We’ve been to Mercato multiple times and we have never been disappointed. The house-made buffalo mozzarella is delightful. And the braised pork shank cacciatore, which is a rustic«hunter‑style», is hearty and you can taste all the time and care that went into the preparation. The atmosphere inside is warm and cozy — perfect for a snowy Hudson Valley evening. The servers are knowledgeable and always have thoughtful suggestions from the menu and from the wine list.

I loved the atmosphere but hated the food. Everything was fresh and sounded like it would be so good! All of our food from start to finish was grossly under seasoned and lacked flavor. I had the worst broccoli rabe of my life here. But I saw so much potential! Stuffed squash blossoms with mozz and anchovies were delicious but so oily we could only eat one each. Would love to come back in a few months to try it again and see if maybe I was just in on an off night.

I am unfortunately one of the people disappointed with Mercato’s. Where do I start. The place is cute, as long as the door is closed! Cramped and small. I was literally shoulder to shoulder with the 4 top next to us and really could not have a private conversation with my husband the whole night. The waitress was sweet. I received my glass of wine, I drank that a whole glass of water and onto my second glass of wine before the cheese plate we ordered came out. Puny, tiny nibble sized pieces of cheese for $ 16. My husband ordered the Flat iron steak with white beans a broccoli rabe. Steak was flavored nicely but way to dry, white beans way over flavored with rosemary and rabe was bitter! I ordered the mushroom risotto. BLAND! No seasoning and at least use some high end mushroom, truffles, chanterelles anything! And for $ 21.00 a whole cold cup of it! *To overpriced for the lack of quality *Under seasoned, bland, amateur at best, falls short of the hype! A local business we will not be patronizing again!

Pretty place with pricey terrible food. Ordered the special: seafood risotto;got tasteless rice soup with waterlogged scallops. Wife ordered penne arrabiatta ; got a can of tomato past. Wine list says it all; vintage dates for a majority of simple 2012 country wines

Another return visit, this time to celebrate our anniversary. We were impressed by how many reasonably priced, lesser-known wines by the glass are on the menu. Each of our wines were very good and under $ 10 a glass. We shared an arugula, fig and parmesan salad. For our main course, we had pasta arrabiata with pancetta and a pasta with eggplant, pecorino in a tomato cream sauce. A side of flageolet(sp?) beans with salt pepper and EVOO were perfectly cooked and had a nice nutty flavor. Francesco(chef/owner) made rounds in the dining room to all the tables to chat and see how everyone was enjoying their meals. This still remains my favorite spot for a true, authentic Italian meal. i would live here if he’d let me.
