Easy and relatively flat. Meanders through manzanita thickets along the Keswick Reservoir. Protect yourself and your dogs from rattlers.

This is one of Redding’s best kept outdoor secrets. Redding has been slowly, and without much fanfare, developing the Sacramento River Trail area. The Hornbeck Trail, off of Quartz Hill, is one of these extensions. This trail is simply gorgeous. The trail runs along the East side of the Keswick Reserve/Sacramento River with a few cement benches overlooking the views of the river or the valley. The trails are visibly marked with nice, discreet metal posts every now and again. This is a great place to bring a date for a hike or mountain biking(the trail is moderately easy, depending on your speed), and the vista is spectacular(definitely bring water and a snack) For a nice, 60 – 90 minute bike ride, I recommend taking the Lower Sacramento Ditch, and cutting over to the Hornbeck trail for a wonderful round-trip.
