Mountain View Middle School

I have had 4 children attend Mt View and generally liked the school up until the last two years. This year was the worst by far. Adding 5^th grade to the school, in my opinion, was not a good idea. I feel like my 5^th grader was exposed to way too much and became middle school material earlier than she should have. It has come to a point where I am unable to decipher if some of the teachers are just plain tough teachers or just plain uncaring you know whats. The teachers are stressed out and it is very apparent to the students. I do not see this school going uphill. When my oldest daughter went there they were a good school. She has just graduated high school this year. Now I wish I would have switched my children a year ago. Columbia Elementary is a good school but I am switching my children this year. We have moved and I would have stayed if I felt this school were worth the effort. I am willing to try out other schools now and this makes me sad. I hope that this school district is able to figure out where their flaws are and fix the issues. Bullying seems to be getting out of hand and the teachers focal points are not focused on the right things. I can say however, if you are actively involved and you stay on top of what is going on at school and with your child you can, most likely, make Mt View a positive experience for your child. If you don’t stay on top of whats going on though, you will be broad sided and will not have many options to fix the issue. Parent/​teacher communication is up to you! They try but realistically only a few do. So, if your student is self-​willed and needs little guidance, and your child can handle uncomfortable situations in dealing with other children then they will be just fine. Otherwise be prepared to stay on top of your child if you want them to succeed, otherwise they WILL slip through the cracks and still be able to make it to high school, because Mt View does not retain, even if the child’s grades are bad. I don’t feel that Mt. View is A-​Okay! And I have experienced better but they could definitely be worse. If I could I would rate it a 2.5 star but since this is not an option and my chidlren’s experiences were not TERRIBLE I will go with a 3.

Our Child started going here a couple years ago and we had heard this to be a great school. But then we learned the truth of the matter. We had a few issues were our student’s teacher had «lost» Homework. And even if it is the teacher’s fault the student suffers a 0 on the grade. Our student also had a fall at school and nothing was done to make the area safer. I expect more from my child’s school. When I think of a good school I think of Safety and caring staff.

This is a 5^th through 8^th grade school. It’s in a great area. Somewhere you would actually feel safe having your child walk home from. The Principal does a wonderful job and is great to work with. They even offer Spanish which is so important anymore. The grounds are in good shape and it’s a newer facility. The kids who go to school here are great too. Which is a huge factor to me, in looking at schools. We had attended at University Preparatory. Which is another good school. Except that the 6^th-​12^th grade really isn’t as separate as they say it is. My daughter was socially in more of high school setting as a 6^th grader. Let’s face it who wants their 6^th grader doing 12^th grader things. It was just too much for us. I’m glad to have her in a school where getting snake bite piercings and having a million boyfriends isn’t the focal point. It’s a smaller school and the teachers can give the attention needed for each student. The ladies in the office actually know the students personally. They are so much more helpful and compassionate. When she went to the office at U-​Prep they kept calling her by her last name. They didn’t know her or even her name. So sad. So we are much happier with Mountain Views care & results. If you are looking for a safer, age appropriate school check this one out.
