The custard was good but they only had vanilla and chocolate. Years ago they would have a different third flavor each week. It’s disappointing that seems to have changed. Pros: good custard and it’s clean. Cons: inside it smelled so bad, like a strong odd chemical odor… also the guy working was a bit slow, and the prices are high. Oh, there’s a tip jar too which annoys me because I’m already paying a lot and when did that become a service you tip for anyway?

Always have a pleasant experience at Theron’s. Been here at least 5 times now and really like their custard. Came here around 1:30pm Friday afternoon and got the regular sundae Stefanovich(Butterscotch and Heath Bar) while my gf got the B-Bliss(Strawberry and Cheesecake). Too bad they don’t mix or do Blend-In’s for the smaller sizes as the guys said they only mix the regular and large now. Small size would actually be perfect but other than that, a great spot to grab some dessert on a hot summer day.

It’s a cute little place. The Theron’s original is my favorite! The inside is small, but the seating area outside is nice.

You chose a base(chocolate or vanilla) and then choose your mix-ins(crushed up chocolate bars, peanuts, syrups, etc), sort of like Coldstone. It essentially tastes like ice cream, but a bit creamier. The only thing was that it was a bit expensive — $ 5 for the smallest mix-in cup. It would be nice if there were a smaller size offered.

The chocolate custard is to die for! It’s so rich and decadent. Add some raspberry compote to it and it’s the perfect combo!

Well, that was a disappointment. We had some time to kill in the area before a meeting so we Unilocaled frozen yogurt and found this. So of course we thought, well, why not go for the custard for a change; it is much more of a rare treat. Cute shop with a nice big sign so we didn’t drive right by. «Today’s flavors: vanilla» should have been our first clue. The folks ahead of us got toppings on theirs and they were just piled on top; no sort of «blend in» technique used. That should have been our second clue to walk away, but, no, we dove in. The vanilla was utterly tasteless, as in, completely devoid of flavor. Toppings were fudge and caramel and some pecans, which basically was the only redeeming quality to the calories we consumed. I don’t think the selection of toppings was that inviting either — sort of old and tired looking. So, two stars for cute shop and friendly service, but overall a big disappointment. Not sure why nothing like any of the previous photos on Unilocal were available for us on our visit. Although, our server did say the usually have vanilla AND chocolate; big whoop.

Pretty good custard. I came here with some friends for lunch and the sandwiches are not bad either. fresh ingredients and made to order, which takes a little time, but it’s pretty good. I would definitely come back for the custard though!

Worst Customer Service Ever. The place was not even crowded and I waited over 45 minutes for custard. When I went in to ask about my dessert for the second time I was told to wait longer. I then proceeded to ask for a refund and the rude clerk refused and give it to me. I left having already prepaid and still no custard. This establishment has a great product but terrible staff with no compassion or respect for its consumers. Steer clear of this place if you are wise

My Dr Vine’s awesone sandwich was made w/turkey & toasted just right, c/o one of Rdlns Best owners *Brittani & «the regular staff» whom sincerely appreciates their customers as well as their opinions. Omg, my complimentary vanilla custard w/o toppings was like my mama’s old school, hand cranked w/rock salt homemade ice cream [so rich & creamy, w/o being too sweet]“outstanding 4 reeeaalz”. Love Theron’s!!!:D

Only vanilla was available… the toppings are typical, oreo, etc. Nothing special. The spoon wasn’t durable enough to eat the concrete custard =(

Zanga special with a root beer float and a veggie with a chocolate shake was the choice of the day. Really nice little sandwich shop, good service, but just be prepared to wait a few minutes and they have a nice outdoor sitting area.

A very quaint place. Dog friendly because there is an outside patio. I love frozen custard and I order it anytime I see it on a menu. This place makes it right! The mixed vanilla and chocolate frozen custard is absolutely decadent! It is hidden so you could easily miss it if you aren’t attentively looking, but that’s why you have a GPS on your phone.

I went to Theron’s hoping for some amazing custard, instead I left with no custard treat. I waited for about 25 minutes with 4 people in front of me. The worker was apologetic to every customer but took a long time for each order. While I waited he announce«I am sorry we are out of spoons, I will call to see if we can get more». Ten minutes later spoons arrived. I eventually was helped and got to order but out of the two flavors they had they were out of custard and still over an hour of being open. I am not sure how they ran out or or not prepared to provide more custard. I was upset at the service here and the wait. I don’t think I will be headed back anytime soon.

We discovered this place in 2010. That was the summer we had season passes to the now defunct Pharaohs Lost Kingdom. My family and I would spend the day at Pharaohs then polish it off with a trip to Therons! We have family in Kansas where they take their concretes seriously and we wanted something comparable here in California! First off, realize this place is very unusual. It’s a small converted house tucked back off the road in a residential area. You order inside where there is no place to sit. The seating area is outside in the shade under pomegranate trees and a patio cover. The view on a clear day is beautiful. There is a rural area nearby and orange groves. Parking is tricky so plan to back up and find a place to park on the street if the lot is full. The menu consists of sandwiches, concrete and custard and soft drinks. I’ve always had great service! There’s usually one or two employees working so patience is key. You shouldn’t be in a hurry when you come to this place. Be prepared to relax under the shade of the trees and enjoy a great light meal and a delicious frozen treat. There are different flavors daily so check the specials. They have a variety of mix ins and toppings from hot fudge and caramel to fresh fruit and crumbles. We give this place our highest recommendation!

Good sandwiches and frozen custard but be ready to wait awhile for your food they only have one person working the 4 times I have gone. The seating area is very refreshing so you don’t mind the wait

Love frozen custard. Only one I have found locally. Sandwiches are good, they come with a free mini custard and you can upgrade to larger if you want.

This place is a hidden gem! Love their frozen custard. If you haven’t been here, it hard to find, and if you navigate it, still hard to find lol! Lovely atmosphere sitting out under the trees near the orange groves, enjoying a large variety of frozen custards. I would recommend the«Original». Just a note; closed on Sunday’s and Monday’s so don’t be disappointed if you show up either of those days.

Yes, I love this place. I don’t remember the name of my concoction, but it was plain vanilla with raspberry sauce and macadamia nuts. Delicious. Can’t wait to return.

Frozen custard vs Ice Cream. I don’t think it has to be a competition. They can totally coexist. Custard is especially a treat nowadays because its so hard to find. Theron’s is also kinda hard to find… more on that later. Rumor is that Theron’s is owned by a dentist who imported the custard machine from Italy. This would be diabolical if true! Gotta appreciate the dentist enthusiasm for this creamy custardy treat. They’ve got excellent taste. Business wise I wish it was located in a more poppin’ spot. Apple maps will lead you astray. I had to use Google maps to direct me correctly. In a strange way the odd location adds a bit to the allure. It’s a treat if you can find it!

«Where did you go last night?» «Theron’s.» “Where?” “Theron’s. It’s a little custard place tucked away off a back residential side street. You’ve probably never heard of it before.“ Geez, I sure knew I hadn’t until a few days ago. Despite the above this place actually does not give off a hipster vibe like a certain ice cream place in downtown Redlands… I won’t say what place but I have a review for it as well. Theron’s, interestingly enough, started business in 2006 and actually had a write up in the local newspaper in 2007. Go figure. I had lived in Redlands for about 14 years and never had I seen, or even heard of, this place. It’s a bit tricky to find– iPhone will tell u you’ve already passed the place when actually u haven’t. They have a sign set out by the street alerting u to its presence. It’s literally tucked away and by some sort of preschool or daycare and there is not a whole lotta parking. When u walk in the shop is very small. Small enough to where I was asked to be excused twice by the guy ahead of me when it was my turn to order so he could gain access to the napkins and then the tip jar(to which he didn’t steal from but left money. What a nice guy.) There was one gal in regular street clothes running the place(this is slightly confusing since the 2007 newspaper article posted on their wall actually shows a picture of a gal in a yellow uniform serving up the treats). They offer several sandwiches and custard concretes w/options to add mix ins and they even have a list of specialty concretes w/mix ins. I opted for the«Hawaiian Betty», but they were out of macadamia nuts so I went w/walnuts. My wife opted for the«B-Bliss.» We grabbed our custard and stepped outside to their back patio seating area which was actually very pleasant. They have several tables and there’s plenty of shade thanks to a large nearby tree and some patio overhead covering. The custard creations were pretty good, but I wasn’t «wow’ed» like previous reviews have stated. They were good enough, but I don’t know if it’s because they were all blended together or what but the custard seemed to lose some of its thick consistency and flavor. I prefer the custard at another establishment in the IE honestly(again I won’t say where but, yes, I have a review for that place as well). Prices for the signature creations seemed a little bit too much IMO as it cost more than our meal we had earlier that evening. They have a bathroom, a counter by the entrance w/a cold water dispenser, and a punch card to reward repeat business. Flavors and service were both decent. Although not my first choice for custard, Theron’s is a neat little local shop and is worth checking out at least once.
