I’m the first to admit that I hate gyms. I hate the idea of rooms of people all breathing in the same sweaty air and running on treadmills to nowhere like mindless hamsters. But GeekFit really isn’t like gyms at all; it’s one session for about 20 – 30 minutes a week, and it’s laid back and so flexible that it wasn’t really like what I expected from a gym. My husband and I started going to GeekFit last year after I quit roller derby from an injury, and wanted to still do some sort of exercise. We originally had Andi coach us, and she was lovely and encouraging. We later had Aaron, and our sessions were focused, but still fun. It was fantastic getting to meet them both. Both of our coaches were friendly and professional, and because you’re the only clients working at the time, they can be really flexible to whatever times work for you. There were a few times we missed because we had family in town or because one of us was sick, and they let us shuffle our weekly sessions around, or, if we had to skip them altogether, they didn’t charge us for them. We did also see results. Of course, things might fluctuate from week to week, but we did see a steady upward trend. I set little goals for myself and was stoked when I hit them: I can plank for five minutes. I can leg press over 400 pounds(which is over three times my weight). I now have actual biceps when I flex. My shoulder presses still sucked but hey, at least I could see improvements in my times and the weight increase. GeekFit is located in a office block not too far from the Microsoft campus. It’s literally a waiting room, and an exercise room with four exercise machines and some awesome music(usually late 90s rock) playing. There are only five exercises you do, but they work out all the major muscle groups in your body so you still feel that post-gym combination of exhaustion and exhilaration afterwards. The price is a bit on the steep side once you get the idea, but going with a buddy helped to lower the cost. Plus, you’re basically getting personal training: I really enjoyed having immediate feedback on how I was doing, especially on things like form or advice for how to do the exercises more intensely. Plus, Aaron has some pretty awesome restaurant and food suggestions, which is always a bonus. There’s an ongoing Unilocal deal with them as well where your first four sessions are discounted(and that’s a good amount of sessions to get a feel for what’s going on there).

These guys are awesome! I saw their flier and like anyone was skeptical of their approach. 30min 1x a week, and I could go to work after(not all sweaty and gross). So I did some research on high weight, slow rep approach and seemed solid so I gave it try. Plus being someone who hates to work out, I figured this literally was the LEAST I could do! I have been going for about 3 months and been very impressed! It really does work! You won’t be walking out looking like Arnold Swaggerer, but I defiantly saw muscle growth, strength and endurance increase. Combined with a good diet(Aaron is even certified in Nutritional health), its very little commitment with a whole lot of gain. Both main trainers Aaron and Chris are awesome, and fun to talk too and know their stuff. Plus it a local company started by some fellow geek’s who just like fitness. + 1X a week, for 30MIN(!!!) Affordable and no contracts/commitment Close to MS Campus(across from Studio Campus) Both Aaron and Chris ROCK - That you haven’t checked them out yet!

I found GeekFit through a coupon deal back in March 2012 and thoroughly researched high intensity training before I purchased the coupon. Reading their website and their philosophy and beliefs also helped me pull the trigger on this purchase. I figured I needed at least two sessions to see if this type of exercise /training would suit me. As a woman in her late 40s, I have run, done circuit training, tried the dancercise craze — through out my youth and hated all of them. The only thing that ever stuck was Tabata — which is high intensity cardiovascular — think jumping jacks and squat thrusts in 20 second bursts then 10 seconds rest for 4 minutes — but I really need an «enforcer.» What I’ve found is that GeekFit absolutely fits my lifestyle — a 30 minute session with a trainer(there’s my enforcer!) once a week which builds strength. I’ve worked so far with Aaron Schmidt and Chris Tremonte — and both are really great at encouraging me and getting me to squeeze that last bit of muscle strength into the exercises. What’s making me come back are threefold: 1. It works. I find I don’t dread the thought of hauling 20lb bags of cat litter up the stairs to my apartment like I used to. It was a personal win to be able to pick up a 40lb transformer easily at work — keep in mind… I’m a small 5’2″ older woman. Booyah! 2. It works. I like my «enforcers» — they are personable, knowledgeable and encouraging. 3. It works. I only pay for the sessions I take. I missed 2 due to travel and then illness in one month and I received a credit for it the next. Also, for regulars, a month’s billing is for 4 sessions — even if there are 5 in it due to how the weeks fall. They also have enough trainers that you can easily move a session to a different time and day. I would recommend GeekFit to anyone wanting to build up and maintain their health and strength.
