At Soil today, I found my fave stocking stuffers to date: red & black oval-​shaped stones, hand-​painted to look like ladybugs.
They can be placed in the garden outdoors because they’ve been coated to protect from weather… I was told. Can also be used as doorstops, the proprietor suggested.
The 4−½″ ladybug cost $ 4, the 3″ ones were only $ 2 each.
You never know what kind of cool original stuff you’ll discover when you shop local.
The 5 ladybugs I bought are quite heavy, but I happily toted my bag ‘o rocks around the village…
Hey…better to stuff stockings with rocks as opposed to coal…

Cannot say enough about Chad Somers and his colleagues at Murillo Landscaping. Amazing appreciation for water saving landscaping, great at waterscaping and access to planter materials at discount rates that consumers can’t find. I’ve used Soil under emergency conditions — a blown over fence the night before leaving town and a 30 year old vine hitting the deck during a wind storm — and they’ve performed amazingly. You can’t go wrong with these guys if you’re looking for a major change in your landscaping.
