Nestled on the first floor of Informatica’s building 2000, the Data Bytes café is a above-average cafeteria compared to the ones in, say, a community college. Each day there is a different sort of «exhibition» cooking station dish that consists of an ethnic sauce(think curry or spicy Asian soy sauce). rice, and some tofu or chicken. Overall, it’s average. They put too much sauce on the Asian stuff. A stir fry noodle turns into a noodle soup. The salad bar is plentiful with choices and reasonable so it’s good to get that! Also the composed salads are usually pretty great with a mix of spinach, fruits, arugula, cheese, and some vinaigrette. The chef table has been improving with the likes of special Indian curry combos, BBQ, and Mexican food bars but it can be kind of expensive. It really just depends on the day. The grill is very average with frozen patty burgers and fries going for over 5 dollars. This is the station to avoid. My biggest qualm of this café is that the workers are hit and miss. I feel like i’m back in college, coming into the cafeteria hoping that I will get a nice portion of food if I’m nice to the guy holding the serving spoon. The talk to yell at each other while serving people and when you do want to flag someone down, its nearly impossible. When you are at the grill, the line is non-existent so no one knows if you are just waiting for food, or if you are waiting for the worker to give you a carton of fries. A plus is that they do give you free spa water. I love those.

The global station changes each day but it sticks to the formula of rice, some veggies, ethnic sauce and either chicken or tofu. It’s a solid option but you get tired of it after eating it every day for 6 months. The grill has $ 3 hamburgers. That’s pretty good. Hearth is usually boring. The chef’s station or whatever is alright sometimes. There’s a salad bar and a sandwich bar where you pay by the weight. There’s a premixed salad area with fixed size cups. Come early if you want your fruit salad to not just be cantalope and grape. The soup is good sometimes. Especially the African peanut thing. There’s also free fruity water.
