I went in 2 months before my wedding for my first fitting (June 2015). After being told to come back 1 month later, there was no need for a 2^nd fitting and I received my dress 1 month before my wedding. I thought the quality was great; but a little more than what I expected to pay unless of course I drove down to LA (this is the average cost for alterations in the SF/​Peninsula area). I had my dress altered from the bottom, chest, shoulders, and had a bustle added for $ 585.
Bride advice: the bustle broke while my bridesmaids were tying my dress up. So if you can, I would definitely ask that two strings be added to carry the weight of your dress for in case one rips (like mine did).

I love Nancy’s! I got pregnant a couple months before my friends wedding and was left with a bridesmaids dress that didn’t fit and needed to be taken out quite a bit. The sides of the dress had ruching, so if we put additional material in the sides, it would not have matched and would’ve looked altered. Nancy instead suggested putting in a panel and a corset back in the dress to not only take it out, but allow me to adjust the dress as I continued to grow before the wedding. It turned out so beautiful and I was so happy with it! I’m so glad I went with Nancy. Another local tailor quoted me twice as much and was insistent on hemming my dress (which didn’t need hemming) and using the material for the sides, which would’ve looked strange with the ruching. I totally felt like the other tailor was trying to do the easiest job for the most money, whereas Nancy was actually concerned with making my dress not only fit me, but look beautiful. I totally trust Nancy and will be back!

I brought my wedding dress to Nancy’s and wasn’t happy with the process. I ended up having to go to another tailor just 2 days before my wedding for alterations. Primary issues…
1) not leaving enough time —
I got my dress in January for a July wedding, and called Nancy to schedule appointment in January. She suggested I wait until early June to come in for my first fitting. When I came, she told me that I needed to get a different bra, and that she didn’t think she would be able to alter it to do the relatively simple alterations (see below). If I had known these things earlier I would have found another tailor (which I ultimately ended up having to do anyway!), but at the time early June felt so close to my wedding I felt it was too late to see someone else.
2) a «no» mindset —
My dress was very, very simple — the Nicole Miller Nina. All that needed to be done were basic alterations (shorten hem, shorten shoulders, create bustle), and take in the inner slip. Basically the inner slip was much bigger than the dress itself, which led to bunching and folding of the dress. This seemed like a simple alteration, but from the first visit Nancy was very hesitant about whether she’d be able to do it to remove all of the wrinkles. I was a bit shocked that such a simple problem would be unsolveable. She didn’t have a problem solving mindset of «how can we get this right», she just said «I don’t think we’re going to be able to fix the wrinkling all the way» and left it at that. After two alterations, it was just a week before my wedding and there were still noticeable wrinkles where the slip was bigger than the dress. Nancy said there was nothing more she could do.
At the last minute, two days before my wedding, I took it to Jacquie’s Sew & Sew. They said «no problem, this is a simple alteration!», and they fixed the dress and had it ready for me later that day. It looked great. Save yourself time and start with Jacquie’s.
3) way too busy, not enough staff —
Nancy is severely understaffed. During our appointments I would often have to wait for her to be free, then when it was my turn and I’m standing on the podium in my wedding dress, she was constantly multi tasking. We’d start to discuss the alterations, then a customer would come in and she’d leave to go ring up their order at the cash register. Then she’d come back, I’d remind her where we left off, and the phone would ring and she’d leave to answer to schedule an appointment. Then we’d start again and someone would come in with a quick question. It was really frustrating to feel like I didn’t have her attention, particularly when she kept insisting that a simple alteration was impossible. She should hire a person to attend to the front desk so that she can focus on tailoring. She should also create a separate, private room for her to work with clients — the podium is right in the middle of the store which makes it all very public, and also opens Nancy up to constant distraction.
Go to Jacquie’s Sew & Sew — you won’t regret it!

I was in desperate need to get a bridesmaid’s dress altered for my brother’s wedding in four days. Being 4.5 months pregnant did not help, but Kim solved my dilemma. She was able to expand my dress a size up to accommodate my growing belly, and during the whole night of the wedding, I was extremely comfortable.
Kim even sewed the front of my dress which I had accidentally ripped before I took it to her, free of charge.
I recommend anyone needing any alteration to come and see Kim for all your tailoring needs.

Nancy did some alterations to my wedding dress, she was amazing ! She was able to turn my dress around in a week it fit perfectly and I felt comfortable ! Highly recommend her for you wedding alterations

My Mother found Nancy’s Tailor (on Unilocal) to solve a wedding dress crisis– thankfully not mine or all of the bay area would have known how angry I was!
She took a beautiful dress that had essentially been butchered by the dress maker (Trudy’s Bridal in Campbell, I have an older review of them already written!) and fixed it. I visited her shop twice and the whole staff was kind and professional. Her work was perfect — My sister’s dress wasn’t wearable before Nancy got a hold of it and it turned out beautifully. I was so happy with her work that I took my Maid of Honor dress to her as well for some work.
Nancy’s isn’t cheap. I don’t know what they charge for regular items, but my sister’s dress was very pricey– absolutely worth it. I paid a fair amount for my dress but the work was perfect. I would absolutely go back!

I need a really quick fix to my santacon outfit, and I went to a couple of tailors that weren’t able to help me since I needed the alterations in a day.
Nancy helped me! And she did a fantastic job. Not only that, when I went in, I had a little rip in my jacket that she quickly fixed free of charge. She’s a little pricier than the standard tailor, but its a job well done. I highly recommend her.

Im just a simple guy thats tired of buying clothes off the rack that just dont fit. Then I tried taking my shirts to Nancys for alteration and I have been extremely happy! They simply change the shape of my shirts to fit me properly and now I look much more sophisticated.

Nancy’s has always been my place to go to since I was in 4^th grade. nancy’s place has been around for a reason. They are fast but there is quality. I brought in a pair of 7 jeans I bought at Ross that were way to long on me and they even matched the stitching around the hem line so it didn’t look like I had done anything to them… it was flawless! I love this place and don’t trust many others.

I have been going to Nancy’s Taylor for years and have never been disappointed. I recently had a pair of my favorite pants up for donation but Nancy was able to stitch here and stitch there and I have a few more years to enjoy what I would have had to donate in very bad shape. They work hard and get the job done.

If you want rude customer service and for someone to mess up alterations on your dress then Nancy’s is for you. Absolute worst experience. I needed my dress to be altered to a smaller size and that it would take a week to fix. I go back the next week and the dress is now too small! Um my back doesn’t grow in a week, so how do you screw that up? I go back the next day after they fix it and the lady was so rude to me and didn’t offer a discount and said I was lucky not to be charged for the extra fix. Um What?! You screwed up and I am supposed to feel lucky?! I don’t think so.
She didn’t even offer me out anything not even an apology. She also practically took my credit card out of my wallet. Needless to say this place was twice as expensive as an average price would be somewhere else. I don’t advise anyone to get something altered from them.

BEWARE! I brought a pair of white linen pants to be hemmed and cleaned. I picked them up w/​MULTIPLE stains — NOT there when I dropped them off. I told the saleslady when I saw all the stains, pointing them out to her — she was rude and defensive stating the stains were there and «I should have told them». I explained the stains were NOT there and I would have known because I PUT THEM ON in the shop when I dropped them off so the previous saleslady could measure them to be hemmed. I explained the stains occurred while in their possession and she then said «you have no witness.» I said I did — the previous saleslady who measured the pants — stains would have been obvious on white pants; and I asked to speak with her or the owner. The saleslady said «She not here,» and then yelled «I’m the owner.» When I asked how this could happen and what could make these stains while they were being cleaned, her response: «We don’t know what food you eat.» She was absolutely insensible and not understanding anything I said and in fact became belligerent and threatening. I gave up, got my $ 5 back for the cleaning and asked for the receipt, to which they initially refused (and I DID pay the $ 13 for the hem). They then returned a receipt that they deceptively wrote «We don’t do dye cleaning.» — this is exactly what was written — trying to claim that they didn’t clean the pants, which they did, and ruined them, and then lied! ABOMINABLE service; atrocious behavior; absolutely unprofessional and bordering on abusive the way the lady screamed accusingly and carried on.
By the way, don’t be swayed by good reviews here — look at the dates — most of the good reviews are more than 3 years old. They have clearly gone downhill and need staff who honor their work, know how to manage and resolve a serious mishap, and appropriately treat a customer.

I think that Nancy’s does a fine job! I’ve brought in some dresses that need to be shortened at the waist and one had a lace overlay and both dresses came out beautifully. You wouldn’t ever know that they had been altered and that’s what you want. She also replaced a zipper on another dress and it also came out nice. I would recommend this place to my friends and I have!

Not a tailor for men —
Do not even bother visiting them if you need alternations for men’s clothes beyond what you can do yourself anyway: sewing on a button,
They are clueless — I took a jacket to shorten the sleves and they wanted to cut them off at the end — an absolute no-​no: needs to be done at the shoulders. They had not idea.
This place may work for wedding dresses — which I rarely wear. Go to Atherton Cleaners — they did a great job for me.

Three stars means «A OK», and that’s what Nancy’s is. They do really good work (for the most part) although if I had it to do over, I probably wouldn’t have had my wedding dress alterations done there (that was 5 years ago). Word of caution: IF you have wedding alterations done there, and it’s the «busy season» (April — Oct) plan for waiting a long time for your appointments or having them be «rushed» (especially on a Saturday). All that said, I’ve been going to Nancy’s for general alterations for 10+ years, with overall OK results. I would give another star except that her prices have gone up a LOT in the past 12 months. Buyer beware, it costs like $ 15 now for a simple hem (no lining) and about $ 25 to hem a skirt/​dress WITH a lining. Ouch!

I’d recommend Nancy’s Tailor. I was looking for a new local tailor (I’d been going to Tailor Maid at Stanford Mall, and they were OK, but expensive and I always had to wait a ridiculous amount of time to get service). So I checked Unilocal and found Nancy’s.
Nancy’s has done an excellent job on multiple tailoring jobs for me, including the basics like hemming pants, shortening sleeves, etc, and a few more complicated projects like adjusting suit jackets. The quality is good, the prices are reasonable, and I never have to wait for service. Nancy’s is located right in downtown RWC — it’s a few minutes from the 101 freeway exits of either Woodside or Whipple — you can street park or garage park.

I got my wedding dress altered because of a friend’s recommendation. And I can tell you that I am disappointed with the service .
The wedding dress was way too loose, and she told me to just put sticky tape above and it will work.
Wedding comes, and of course the dress is too loose. It is so loose that part of the time, part of my corset is showing. And I had to many of a time pulling the dress up during the phototaking. What a shame.
I am putting two stars and not one because i think her quality is good, but she just cna’t be bothered.

Nancy’s was more expensive than average, but had received a decent review on another site, which led me to believe they would do high-​quality work. I was disappointed & will not return.
I brought in two items — a dress and a skirt — to be hemmed. This was done incorrectly on both items (the lining left too long, so that it shows when one sits or bends), and I had to have the hem adjusted on both items. The adjustments took multiple attempts, and I had to return to the shop 4 times by the end of it.
Additionally, it didn’t seem to me that Nancy’s was concerned about the poor job or the inconvenience to me. They don’t appear to really value their customers.
