It took us 30 minutes wait time for a table to open up. This place is definitely difficult to sit down. For those looking for a easier dining spot, check out Pio Pio 2. This place has a take out order almost every minute during the dinner time. This is not the best date spot because of the high turnover. The décor is OK with cramped seating space.
I got the Matador’s special as I always do at both Pio Pios. The chicken was perfectly seasoned and even the breasts retained good moisture. The breasts, however, was overcooked to about 170F-​the meat was a little stringy. The french fries were lackluster and soggy but the tostones were on point! The green sauce and rice and beans were amazing as always.
Regardless, the food is still amazingly good and always worth the visit!

Not knowing this was the original Pio Pio, we decided to come here on a chilly night for some Peruvian chicken. The location is quite small and so is the menu. It seems that most people ordered online or via phone and then just picked it up. There were but 5 tables and maybe 20 items on the whole menu including drinks.
We opted for the MASSIVE Matador combo thinking we could use it for a few meals. So many sides and a whole chicken came out with it.
— Whole rotisserie chicken was moist and flavorful, you could’ve easily ate it without the green sauce and still be happy. There was more than enough for 2 people, can easily feed 4 people.
— Rice and beans were delicious and complimented the chicken very, very well.
— Tostones was a bit overcooked, we think, but still good side to have. We didn’t eat too many of these and just took most of them home.
— Hot dogs and fries were also very good. The fries were a little soggy with loads and flavor. The hot dogs, however, tasted just like fried hot dogs, nothing special.
This was definitely a nice meal and surprising meal in its simplicity and delivery. We would definitely recommend.

Amazing food very fast and great price I recommend to all chicken lovers plus the green sauce is amazing.

Chicken is good and juicy

Fries with hot dog is garbage. They used really old oil so it ended up being undercooked dark brown fries since they do not want to leave it it for too long
Tostones are okay and also fried in old oil. Also doesn’t come with garlic sauce
Salad is good
Prices are kind of okay but not as good as other similar spots
They do not give extra green sauce no matter how much you order which is insanely cheap.
Will never go back because of how dumb it is to not provide just one extra green sauce

Although the place is tiny, the food is the best. The stuff is accommodating and polite. We love to eat in or order to go. Chicken, avocado salad, tostones is what we always order.

Two words MATADOR COMBO.
Every time I come here, whether it’s two of us or 4 of us I always order the matador combo. It’s comes with a whole roasted chicken, plantains, sausages and fries, beans and rice, and avocado salad.
Everything is simple and fresh. The chicken is juicy, the beans and rice is simple, the sausages are amazing, the lemony vinaigrette on the salad is everything. So refreshing. My most favorite thing is the green sauce. Omg. Dip everything in it!!! It’s a creamy, lightly spicy, green sauce. The combo is around $ 34, you can’t go wrong.
The white and red sangria is great. Get a pitcher of it and get buzzed. Thank me later. For dessert get the tres leches, best I ever had. The cake is fresh and firm but still juicy and soft bc of the milk.
It’s very tiny in this location, I would definitely opt for take out if it’s busy in there. Still very cozy.

I came here for lunch and was excited to try this place based on the reviews and recommendations. This location is pretty small and I was expecting a typical takeout place but it’s a nice setup with actual tablecloths and the waiter was nicely dressed. This place is cash only so keep that in mind if you’re eating here. I didn’t have a lot of time so I decided to go with the empanadas since I figured they would be quick and filling. The food was brought out pretty fast and the empanadas were pretty large, they came with a spicy tomato and onion sauce. I’m a big empanadas fan and I’ve had them in many different styles but these were very different from any empanada I’ve had before. The dough used was soft and very flaky, the texture was just too soft for my taste. I was also really put off by the raisins mixed with the shredded chicken. I really didn’t like the sweetness of raisins so then I just tried mixing in the spicy sauce to cover up the sweet flavor of the empanada. Even though I was hungry I just didn’t even bother finishing my second empanada. Maybe I chose the wrong thing since the chicken lunch special appears to be very popular but empanadas are usually a safe thing to order. The service was good and the prices here are very reasonable, maybe next time I will make sure to order something else.

Solid food like the other locations but much smaller, actually tiny. The place is tight, loud, and not the most pleasant place to eat.
Food was very similar to other locations, very good and so much for your food. The only thing is that they are not the nicest to deal with when placing a large order. Just gave me some attitude. They are in the service industry, they shd realize how they treat customers matter.
Not a date spot, and if you want to eat there, go to another location. This place should only be for pick up.

Love Pio Pio. Food always tastes amazing. The portions are huge and it is well priced! The green sauce is outstanding if you like spicy!

Great grill chicken, all ways the same beautifull taste, the salad is super fresh and the spicy sauce is veary tasty! The only thing that make you seat littele un comfortable it’s the temporary in the winter, and the space is small

I ordered take out from here and I thought the food was far less superior than the Jackson Heights location. My empanadas were dry, my chicken was dry and even the rice. The maduro was hard and I especially didn’t like their flan. I love flan and this one was more eggy.
Maybe it’s because I ordered out. In the past I’ve only eaten at their other locations. Maybe the steam from being in a container dried out the food. Next time I won’t order out.

I love this chicken. Granted the last time we got a chicken from here the skin wasn’t as crispy as we would prefer. Next time I will ask that they give one with the skin more cooked to golden. The flavor in this chicken though, the next day I heated a quarter of the chicken in the oven. Skin became crispy and the juices flowing out of the chicken, fantastic! Their seasoning is out of this world. So many other places out there, you can smell the poultry from a mile away where the seasoning hasn’t absorbed. Even the next day it was finger licking good. That green sauce though, it puts it over the edge. If you are in the mood for good chicken and don’t want to make it yourself, go here. I can’t speak about the rice and beans, because the chicken is the star.

Always delicious! Highly recommend going to Pio Pio for a solid Peruvian meal. Make sure you try the sauces as well!

The food was amazing. Too pricy for the location. Only 8 small tables and no bathroom. The service was good. No parking around. next time I’ll place my order to pick it up.

DO NOT EAT HERE! I had to use the bathroom in the back, and they keep their fries in a bucket like container that is completely unsealed!!! What’s worse: there were a couple of flies buzzing around the cold fries and the avocados!!! When I cancelled my fries, one of the servers gave me attitude??? The balls on this man… Don’t eat here or you’ll get sick!

My first time here. Lots of people rave about Pio Pio. I had to check this place out. I do say the chicken is pretty good. This place is quite small, if you have a large group I would advise to go to the one on Northern Blvd. The service here is decent and food is good. Portions for the food is relatively decent. I definitely recommend for sure the chicken and avocado salad.

The food here is cheap, tasty, and plenty. There’s a sangria that they’re pretty well-​known for that you should definitely try. You can either get a glass of it or a pitcher. Its very tasty and it’s great to pair with your meal.
The service was great since the restaurant isn’t huge, they are able to manage all their customers’ orders quickly.
I would say the green dipping sauce that they have is my favorite, it a bit spicy but not too spicy. Has a kick to it.

I went there with my mother on a Thursday night and we enjoyed it! It’s one of those «hole in the wall places» that everyone loves to go to with a companion. The food selection is minimal so be prepared to see only 3 choices of food. The taste of the food though… is amazing!!! The quantity of the food was equivalent to a thanksgiving dinner plate.
So if you are ready to eat then go to PIO PIO, if you want to stay cute and order a salad go somewhere else!
