The staff was very knowledgeable, very nice people as well as a great selection on everything jewelry. I would come back if I need anything that needs to be replaced, cleaned, or simply needs a new Ring. It is also a place I’d prefer people to.

This place is absolutely wonderful. My husband purchased my engagement ring and band out of state. So we needed somewhere to get them resized here in Reno. We chose Gem Gallery based off of a reference from a friend of my husbands and the fact they’re close to his work. These people are fantastic. Not only did we receive fast/quality service, but their costumer service was impeccable. The rings were done by the end of the day. But we chose to pick them up the next. It was great. We recently went back there with my same set of rings that later got bent, and they were able to get them back to tip top shape within minutes with no charge. Their prices are extremely reasonable. I don’t plan on ever going anywhere else for our jewelry repair needs!

John bought and paid for the engagement ring and wedding band on December 14th under the understanding we would have both for our wedding on February 24th, no problem. Then John was told on December 19th that the factory did not and could not make a band for my ring and that Gem Gallery would have to make one for it. Tim said he would need the engagement ring back at least a week or two to have it drawn. John picked up the engagement ring from Tim that day. John pointed out that the diamond setting was off. Tim became very defensive and told John he was seeing things. John had another jeweler look at the ring and they confirmed the prongs were not even and quoted a price to fix it. I went back to the Gem Gallery on January 2nd and another associate looked at the ring and confirmed the prongs were off. I was also informed durning that visit that we could in fact get the matching band from the manufacture but it would take 5 to 8 weeks. This information was never told to us by Tim. Never even given as an option. Which means if it were ordered when the ring was paid for on December 14th we would have had a better chance of having it for my wedding. When Tim returned on January 7th I visited again at which time he once again said there was nothing wrong with the setting looking under a microscope. He then said that they could make the matching band for the ring and have it to me before the wedding. My response was you can not see an obvious flaw under a microscope in which we can see with a naked eye why would I want a ring made by them instead of the factory. It is unfortunate that they do not have a high standard of quality craftsmanship or a care for customers needs such as having a wedding band for their wedding.

I needed to get my wedding set appraised to update my insurance policy. I called Gem Gallery and spoke to the appraiser, Allison, on Friday afternoon. She was laid back and friendly and told me she would be there Saturday and that I could bring my rings by and drop them off. Reasonable. When I showed up the next day, no one greeted me. I recognized Allison, the appraiser, by her voice and went to stand behind the couple she was helping. A minute or so later, a middle-aged man(whom I had assumed to be another customer by his wandering gait) told me that someone would be right with me. Oh, okay. Less than a minute after that, an energetic, friendly man emerged from the back to ask how he could help. I told him I needed appraisal services. He cheerfully told Allison that I was there for her(to which she gave no recognition of hearing that I could discern). He then offered to clean my rings in order to speed the process along. Lovely fellow. Minutes ticked by and still I had yet to even receive eye contact from the appraiser. Our toddler was getting anxious and my husband had received a phone call on the way over there saying that he was needed soon to do a surgery for a little old lady who had broken her hip. We thought we were just coming to drop off the rings and go. However, we could not even get recognition of our existence by this woman! I poked my head in the back looking for the kind man from before to request my rings back. Only at that point did Allison then turn to look at me. She said, «If you need an appraisal, you really need to make an appointment.» I told her I had spoken to her the previous day and that she had said to just come by. At that point, she said I could drop the rings off. I was so livid at that point, I scoffed, shook my head, and collected my rings from the nice gentleman in the back. Look, I get being busy. I do not understand the blatant disregard for a customer. Apart from the one friendly fellow, I have nothing good to say about this place. He’s the reason for the extra star.

When my now husband and I started talking about getting married, I started asking around about jewelers. Many«old reno» type with major bling recommened The Gem Gallery. I figured we probably couldn’t afford much in there, but thought it would be fun to look. I absolutely fell in love with an engagement ring that looked like the diamond was floating. It’s called«pressure set», and it’s beautiful. As it turns out, my husband went back later and was able to talk to Tim. I am kind of clumbsy, and rough on my hands, so Tim suggested that he design a ring simular to the pressure setting, but with a little more support for the diamond. The ring turned out beautiful! We then looked at wedding bands, and I had a simple one picked out that we were waiting a little to purchase. I went to get my ring cleaned and was looking in the 50% off case and saw a set with a similar band to the one I had wanted, after some research, it turned out the band was a better quality and more diamonds than my original, but with the half off about $ 200 cheaper! Even though it was supposed to come in an engagement set, the Gem Gallery(Tim) was willing to split the set. This is a great local business!

I am wondering if those last two people have The Gem Gallery confused with the store that took over in their previous location. The Gem Gallery Moved in March of 07 and a company called Hart’s Jewelers moved in to that location. The Gem Gallery uses a laser welder to do most repairs not solder, so its pretty impossible for them to have soldered that chain. I know for a fact that not only would the Gem Gallery return the extra pieces to the customer, but they would have offered to offset the cost of the repair if the customer wanted to trade in the scrap gold. They have been offering this service of trading in scrap or old gold since 2005. I have purchased many items from Tim and the staff, and the one thing I like about the store is the no high pressure sales staff, the willingness to educate the customer to the point of recommending alternatives if the repair or sale does not make sense for the customer. The staff is more like a family than your«Uniformed» staff. I can see why they have been in business for over 25 yrs. Tim’s one of a kind custom stuff has won many rewards and continue to be popular with his customers. Its funny that when one of the oldest jewelry companies in Reno closed the doors in late 07, they recommended all of their long time customers to The Gem Gallery. That says a lot about a company!

I had heard good things about this place, so I wandered in one afternoon to check out wedding bands for my fiancé and I. Horrible selction and uninformed staff.

This is a place that deserves zero stars!!! My future mother-in-law just went here to have a clasp on a gold chain replaced. They replaced the large part of the clasp correctly. When it came to the large link that gets clasped onto they took off a few links, including the broken clasp, and then just soldered a small(just larger than a normal link) in it’s place. This was not the work that was promised and was a terrible job. To add insult to injury when she asked the place for the links and broken clasp they had removed, they laughed at her, mocked her, and made a big scene before someone went into the back to get the parts. they said that people don’t usually ask for that stuff back. That’s fine, whatever, but she asked for it back and she should have received it back without question. That would be good customer service. After this embarrassing incident she just said forget it, paid them the $ 60, which was an overcharge for the crappy work they did, and left. This place needs a few lessons on good customer service, and obviously jewelry repair. You would think that as they would know what they are doing as they are supposedly professionals, but they proved that anyone can run a jewelry repair business. I would recommend to STAYAWAY from this place!
