Not great. Poor customer service, they really don’t care at all about customers. I called ahead and reserved a spot for a Magic the Gathering pre-release, informing them that I was going to be about 5 minutes late so please keep my spot reserved(that’s why I was calling ahead). I ended up arriving exactly on time(not even 1 minute late) and they had already given my spot away. That is truly HORRIBLE customer consideration. And when they told me they gave me spot away it was just like, «Oh yeah we gave it away. See ya.» The store is also small and cramped, but not in a good«neighborhood store» kinda way, just in a «we want to hold big events but won’t buy more space» kinda way. Comic Kingdom is about a block away from here. Do yourself a favor and take your business there.

I’ve been searching around town for a good place to buy, trade and play Magic: The Gathering. Merwin’s seems useful for only one: playing. After walking in, it was(as other reviewers have noted) around 5+ minutes of me standing at the counter before anyone even made eye contact. Everyone there was playing Magic, and looked to be completely immersed. When the single employee there working finally noticed me, he got up and asked what I needed help with. I told him, and he said that they didn’t have it and said«Sorry about that.» Their Magic selection didn’t seem great, and had only the very newest expansion. I don’t expect smaller shops to keep old sets in stock very long, but the employee didn’t even offer up an alternative or ask for more info on what I was looking for. I’d say for FNM, might be a cool place to play. From a customer service standpoint though, I’d pass on Merwin’s.

Went in to buy star wars imperial assault, 2 people were playing a card game at a table, 1 worker was helping a customer and another person watching tje card game. No one even bothered to make eye contact with my girlfriend or myself. The store is hard to get around with the folding tables set up. After shuffling my way between unused tables and the back wall with the board games i found what i was looking for. When i heard someone yell at the guy watching the card game to not engage the players while customers were in the store, still no one has acknowledged our existence. The game was $ 100 before tax, decded to not get it because of the poor customer service and the large mark up over amazon prices. The whole time we were in the store not one word was said to us, no one even so much as made eye contact, so we left.

The Kid and I accompanied Gayle to Reno yesterday to visit a couple who have been friends for many years. As to give her some quality time, I took my Son over to Merwin’s Game Shoppe to feed his Magic the Gathering fix and the fact that his Grandparent’s Christmas check was burning a hole in his pocket. Merwin’s is located in a half-occupied strip shopping center across from the Reno Convention Center. Compared to the Kid’s other card store haunts(Other Worlds in Portland and Black Diamond Games in Concord), Merwin’s is a bit on the small side. The front room features a lot of well stocked merchandise, along with the associated gaming tables. There’s a smaller back room that is more like a lounge, complete with a big flat screen TV. The other thing I noticed is that all the folks here seemed just like my Son in terms of temperament and gaming focus. My Son loves this place and you can be sure that if we come up from the Carson Valley again, he’ll be here. The Kid was particularly impressed with the guy behind the counter and the fact that this place plays the kind of Magic that he likes to participate. I keep hoping that he’ll outgrow this, but then again this sort of thing makes him very happy. And he only put a small dent in the Christmas check.

Glad I found you! Great selection of RPG’s and CCG’s glad to see somebody in Reno doing it right! Friendly staff wants to help and are very knowledgable. If you are a gamer, a hoper, a prayer, a magic bean buyer, if you are a pretender, then this place is for you.
