Been here a few times, but most recently for the UNR-Day At The Museum. I had my 6 year old kid with me and it’s hard to keep a young kids interest especially when you’re in a museum. The docents were very helpful, informative, interactive and nice. My kid and I spent about an hour playing with the old Pioneer toys and it was a blast teaching him those old games-Cat’s cradle, marbles, Jacob’s Ladder, ring toss, and old dice games. One of the gentlemen docents there just kept astounding me with his knowledge of mining in the area and other tidbits. The museum is small but a gem and there are are lots of great local history and so many stories to be heard!

Full disclaimer, I am a history junkie. I can stand around for hours looking at old pictures of familiar places and try to figure out what it looks like now and is it still there? I love reading about what people did and how they lived long ago. I see history as a story and the stories are so interesting. I was here as a part of an Artown event and were treated to a lecture on Reno history by one of the docents. We were then split into smaller groups to get more information on items in their Reno History Gallery. We were also free to wander around the rest of the galleries with information and artifacts pertaining to all aspects of Nevada history. There are a few ‘hands on” items available for children. My only quibble, and my reason for only four stars, is that some of the displays are not well laid out and the artifacts are not very well identified. It is definitely worth a visit and there is free parking next to the building.

I visited this musuem earlier today. I had taken my family from out of state there. It is a $ 5.00 cover charge per person. That is a decent price for being such a small musuem. In my opinion it is worth seeing. The musuem has a lot of historic slot machines. And they have Indian artifacts I liked. Lots and lots of history.

Spent a great time at this small but great museum. Lots to see and learned a lot about Reno and the rest of Nevada. The research library wasn’t open at the time so we didn’t get to see that, but spent a good while in the shop looking at books about this fine state.

Extensive research library for all topics in Nevada history plus a small gallery with excellent artifacts for viewing at a reasonable price.
