Oooohhh, my new favorite word! Schnitzel! Oooohhh, my new favorite Schnitzel kitchen, Schnitzel’s Austrian Grill ! Delectable, luscious, ambrosial, scrumptious ! The pork cutlet was done perfectly. Crispy outside, tender middle. The sides offered all made with fresh, natural ingredients. Between us we had the Beet/apple salad, the Cucumber salad, and Potato salad. All remarkably authentic and reminiscent of the meals of my youth. Try the Apfelschorle soda drink. Like an apple soda champagne without the alcohol! The Host and Hostess,(owners/chefs) were very welcoming, accommodating, making you feel like old friends, part of the family seated in their kitchen at home. They offered samples and answered our questions with jovial aplomb even though they were drawing quite the crowd and staying busy. Very reasonably priced. Had room to sit at the picnic tables. Parking is on the street or nearby garages. I was so pleased to find them in the lot by the river behind the Riverside Hotel. They can park elsewhere but they can’t hide now that I’ve found them! ;-) They post regularly on their fb page so check it out.

It amazes me sometimes how a business can stay off my radar for a really long time.(See my review from a couple of days ago about finding cannoli at True NY Pizza.) Schnitzel is one of my very favorite foods in the world — -and there has been a SCHNITZELTRUCK in Reno since last JUNE and I didn’t know about it??? How the #%*$ did THAT happen?! So imagine the scene: I’m sitting at my computer trying valiantly to get some grading done before class, but instead I’m browsing recent activity on Unilocal and I see someone has checked in to – does that say SCHNITZEL? Still shaking my head to straighten out my brain, I quickly find the Facebook page of said truck. Yes… it…DOES exist! I am NOT imagining this! And what’s more, it is parked, right this instant, in a spot en route to work. I grab my bag, stuff my feet into shoes, vault over the dogs, out the door, into my truck, and speed down the hill. Of course, there is no street parking anywhere near the truck, so I swerve into a parking garage, leap out of the truck(I’m pretty sure I remembered to turn it off), and race down the street. I arrive at Schnitzel’s window out of breath, and exclaim, «I GOTHEREASFASTAS I COULD!!!» They smile at me and immediately hand me a menu, as if racing for schnitzel is the most natural thing in the world, because of course it is. I really don’t need to look at the menu, since I already know what I want: «Schnitzel platter, please!» And the owner asks in her gorgeous accent, «Do you like chicken or pork in your schitzel?» and I tell her«I don’t believe in chicken schnitzel, only pork» to which she smiles and says, «So, you have spent some time in Germany, then?» and yes indeed, my German host-mutti would be very upset with me if she found out I ordered a chicken schnitzel, and the Austrian goddess who is already handing me my food reminds me of my mutti, so I kind of love her already. I have to take the food to go, as my office hours are approaching, and it is essential that I be there for nobody to come see me, so by the time I get to eat my food it has started to cool off, but it is still SOGOOD. SOOOOOOOOOOOGOOOOOOOOD! I have the pork schnitzel with potato salad and sauerkraut and lingonberry jam, and I am in complete heaven. A couple of officemates are peeking over their cubicles at me and I hiss at them. So Reno, pleasepleasepleasePLEASE go out right away and find this food truck and eat there… eat there LOTS! I want them to succeed and be around for many many years because I NEED a schnitzel dealer, and they are the REALDEAL. Plus, I haven’t even tried their brats… and did I mention they have currywurst? CURRYWURST!!! Just go. Go now. Why are you still here… go get schnitzel. Now.

«Holy shit that was fast!» First words out of my mouth when I was done ordering. By the time I had finished paying the fine gentleman my $ 9.43 the lady handed me my order. That’s service. The initial finding of the truck: This food truck was outside the court houses downtown. I meandered outside on a quick break for some fresh air and saw the truck across the street. I decided since I have never had schnitzel before, I was going to make this my lunch.(I only had a slice of leftover pizza from Papa Murphy’s and figured that wasn’t going to be good enough). The service: Lunchtime rolled around(1pm on Tuesday 2÷23÷16) and I grabbed my wallet and jacket, and went to go get food! I walked out and saw there was no line. I walked up and was immediately greeted by the jovial male half of the truck. I ordered the chicken schnitzel platter. He then told me what came with it: two sides of my choosing and a condiment of my choosing. I chose the red beet salad and potato salad, and the jam which the name I couldn’t pronounce. He pulled out his ipad and square so I could pay by card and by the time I was done signing, the lady half had my order bagged and ready to go. 5 stars alone for service! The food: I took a bite of the schnitzel without drizzling lemon on it(that came with) and without the condiment. Oh, it was love! The crust(is it fried? breaded? I don’t know exactly what I ate, but it was yummy!) tasted like Cheetos. I don’t know if anyone else got that, but I’m not complaining. I took a few more bites and squeezed the lemon over it and had another bite. The love got even better! I decided to put the chicken on hold, and try the 2 salads I got. The potato salad was phenomenal. It was light(compared to the American style mayo-laden ones I’ve had before) and perfectly spiced(with pepper?). I can’t tell what type of liquid/dressing was on it, but like everything else, amazing! Then, the beet salad, which comes with feta. Normally, I’m just a cheddar girl, but I decided to let my tastebuds have fun. They were not let down. The beet salad is amazing as well. After finishing half the beet salad and devouring the potato salad, I decided to take what was left of the lemon drizzled schnitzel and dip it in the jam. The sweetness of the jam compliments the sour of the lemon and salty of the breading of the chicken. Overall: Please find this truck. Please eat their food. It is the best truck I’ve been to! If there’s a wait, know it will be SOOOO worth your while! I cannot wait to try different sides and condiments next time!

I discovered my new favorite food truck in the Reno/Sparks area a few days ago. Schnitzel’s Austrian Grill is AMAZING! It is also a wonderful place to eat gluten free. Basically, everything except their bread can be(or already is) gluten free. For those who eat gluten free by choice, it sounds like you can eat their GF ciabatta… but she doesn’t feel safe serving it to people who are Celiac or have allergic issues right now.(There MAY be a cross contamination issue with the supplier currently.) Kirsten is extremely personable and very knowledgeable about gluten issues! I ordered the(Gluten Free) Pork Schnitzel with Red Beet and Apple Salad, Cucumber Salad, and Ligonberry Jam. It is shocking how wonderful this schnitzel is with a gluten free breading. It is perfect… not too dry, soggy, nor too thick. The platters come with two sides and one condiment. They also serve their entrees as a sandwich. I also had the opportunity to sample several of their items and loved everything. My favorite sides were the Red Beet and Apple Salad(this was crazy good even though it sounded a bit odd to me at first), Cucumber Salad, Chilled Chickpea Salad, and Sauerkraut. Their other sides are Austrian Potato Salad, Mixed Salad, and French Fries. My favorite entrée currently is the Pork Schnitzel. I cannot wait to try their Fish Schnitzel. I arrived later in their day, so they had run out of the fish(I believe it’s haddock). I also got to sample their Bratwurst, Currywurst, and Cranberry Horseradish Cream. Oh my! Their bratwurst is an authentic German Bratwurst and in my opinion is honestly the tastiest sausage in town! It has a perfect snap when you bite into it and tremendous flavors. I was a bit hesitant to sample the Currywurst, because I have never been a fan of curry. Maybe I haven’t had good curry the few times I’ve had it before(who knows)… but this was so good that I wished I had some bread to sop the rest of it up. Now about the Cranberry Horseradish Cream. AAAAMAZING!!! I know it may sound a bit crazy and I am not really into straight horseradish, but this is crazy good and slightly tamer than a nice quality wasabi. I totally recommend this with whatever you order if you can handle some heat. So how much do I REALLY love Schnitzel’s Austrian Grill? So much that I told two workers I didn’t even know at our local Natural Grocers later that day in quite a bit of detail and it inspired me to start blogging about great places to eat gluten free in the Reno/Sparks area. In conclusion: * The food here is amazing! * You can safely eat gluten free here with almost every item available to you. * The service is top notch. I felt like I have known them for a long time even though this was my first visit. * Where else can you get amazing gluten free schnitzels?

Excellent German/Austrian food! Everything is fresh made daily and the service is extremely friendly and welcoming. Tried everything on the menu and all is fantastic. My favourite dish: Chicken Platter with potato and cucumber salad with fresh Dill dressing. Portions are big and pricing is very reasonable. This Food Truck is an absolute«must try truck» in the Reno area.

Best schnitzel I’ve had since my last trip to Austria. It’s awesome and the quality can’t be beat. The schnitzel is crispy and paired nicely on delicious ciabatta bread. Add some lingonberry sauce and you’re in business. Also, I’m not one for beets but the beet/apple salad has made me a believer. Definitely one of my favorites.

After living in Salzburg I’m pretty skeptical of Austrian style food done stateside. You cannot go wrong here. I had the wiener art schnitzel with potato salad and an apple schorle. All were delicious and on point! My husband very much enjoyed his cod and sauerkraut as well. I highly recommend.

I had a bratwurst on ciabatta. It was okay — a little too sweet for me. Prices were reasonable. The truck was parked conveniently next to Bibo’s on record. I tried to pay with credit, they asked if I had cash… what? Turns out they didn’t have their iPad with them that they used to run credit cards with. I had to come back for them to run my card, which was inconvenient.

A food truck very different to the area. Austrian food– schnitzel, sauerkraut, and brats. Having been to Germany I was exciting to see this cuisine show up in Reno, even if it was on a food truck. We were a little late getting to the event, so there were a few dishes that they ran out of, that tells you how popular they are already. They offer pork and chicken schnitzel, fried fish and brats. With choice of side that include potato salad, sauerkraut, beet & apple salad, fresh green salad and chick pea salad. I tried the platter — chicken schnitzel which was good sized, tender but a tad too salty, sauerkraut that was great and beet & apple salad– a unique combination that was sweet, crunchy and had some heat at the end and creamy with a touch of feta cheese. The platter was $ 7, a great deal for that amount of food. Oh, I shouldn’t forget you get to add one condiment– do the homemade horseradish cranberry cream– wow. I enjoyed the gal taking the orders, I assume she is the owner. She has great character and enthusiasm. I also like her accent. Next time I will get there sooner and try some other dishes
