This is a fun little hipster bar with crafted cocktails and a great array of draft beers including my favorite, Framboise Lambic. I love the background with the Society light behind the booths and the overall decoration. There is a jukebox and trivia on Tuesdays, but no games like darts or pool. This is definitely a busy spot on a Saturday night, I usually opt for weeknights. The bartenders are friendly and timely. The restaurant I used to work for had a company party here and they were accommodating. The upstairs patio is enjoyable especially if you want to have a smoke and you don’t want to stand on the sidewalk. It is located on more in midtown so if you plan to bar hop in the winter you may want to start here and then cab it downtown, but in the summer it’s a nice stroll past the river.

This is always an easy choice for a night out with friends. Always great music, lots of seating. Summer nights are the best sitting up stairs in the fresh air!

Likes– The live music. The drinks. The staff Dislikes– Crowd can be on the Douchebaggy side now and then. I try not to judge, and it might just be that I’m in my 40s and my paitience for young tomfoolery can sometimes be short. But overall… nice place to catch a fun band now and then.

Let me first say that I dig this place, a lot, did I mention that I really dig this place? While others may think the prices are a little bit steep I couldn’t agree less, you’re paying for not only your drinks but the experience that St. James has to offer. I really love the black and white theme with the red lights on the inside and the rooftop patio is always a plus if the inside is too dark for you. If it’s on a crawl, do yourself a favor and stop by for a drink, you might just find yourself coming back in the near future.

Love the atmosphere, the photo booth and the drinks. The open air patio in the summer is a must. And the vibrant drink list can give you a gnarly hangover in the morning but well worth the pain for some of those delights.

Went in the other night with my friend. Visiting from Colorado we are both home for the holidays. I’ve been into st James a few times before and it’s always been alright. We went in on a Monday night just to get a drink and there was a male bartender and he was pretty nice! The woman bartender on the other hand was extremely rude and unprofessional. She came and asked us for our IDs and we gave them to her(she was incredibly rude) then she proceeded to go ask two girl customers sitting at the bar if they thought our IDs were fake and showed them our IDs! IDs have private information on them and I find it totally unprofessional that she showed two random people and asked them. I understand double checking the IDs but showing two random people? So rude to me. :-(this is the only review I have on Unilocal and I’m only writing this review because of how awful we were treated. We quickly finished our drinks and left because of how awkward it was in there with the bitchy bartender and her two friends at the bar staring at us. You would think at a bar there would be more class, after all we are adults. If I wanted to be treated like that I would go to a high school party with my little sister. The last time I was at st James the same woman bartender was working and the drink she made for my friend was awful, she was also rude to my entire group of female friends. Seemed like she was nice to all of the guys though(shocker)! The vibe in there is not good. I highly recommend chapel or loving cup. Way better drinks, nicer bartenders, and way cooler atmosphere! Don’t waste your time or money here considering there are WAY better bars in Reno.

This is very much a college town bar. I might be getting too old for these college town bars. The music was poppin’ playing some great older songs. It was a packed saturday night. I’ve found that the crowd it draws tends to be very inconsiderate. A lot of pushing and shoving, stepping on feet, sometimes intentionally. If you know there’s someone behind you because you stepped back into them, don’t keep moving back. Upstairs has a little bit more room, but its all smoke(from cigarettes). Also, more people who push their way into a spot that doesn’t fit them. Inconsiderate. The tip I got from a friend of mine(female), is that I need to just push back and possibly swing my elbows at people to get my space back. That would be bad news bear for me though. meh!

I was in Reno for business so I went around 4 p.m. on a Sunday. Nobody was there except staff and a couple of regulars but the bar tender was very attentive and cordial(and attractive). That ment a lot since I didn’t know what to expect, especially as a single black girl who happened to waltz into a rocker bar. But everything was cool and welcoming. I couldn’t believe my tab was $ 19 for a Ciroc soda and bottomless mimosas — SHITYES!!! I also couldn’t believe the bar tender had never heard of Ciroc(nevertheless, he was damn good at mixing). They did have Ciroc but it was tucked in the back unopened. Wow. I could say something about that but I won’t lol. Loved the décor probably the most modern in Reno. The padded bar chairs are so comfortable you’ll sit there longer than you should. Four stars only because I don’t know what the bar is like during regular time. I’ll be back if I’m ever in town again.

All the food tastes very premium. Love the beer taster platter. Disappointed they got rid of the pool table. There was also a time where they told us they would only split our large group’s bill into four smaller ones. It felt like we had to scramble to pay appropriately which added unneeded stress. I would’ve liked to know about that policy well before the end of the meal.

Love this place. It’s a soul night, dance party on Saturdays, and around 11pm it gets to be pretty packed and fun. ESPECIALLY if you’re with a group of friends who like to boogie and get down. Tuesdays is trivia night. Generally there’s not many people there, but it is nice way to get to know the bartenders. The bar also has a really interesting mix of people. A big portion are college students, but then also a bunch of 20 and 30(and sometimes 40) somethings. Tired of the ruckus inside? There’s a gorgeous patio on the roof. Cocktail are pretty good. There’s one that’s delicious– Frank and Eloise? Something like that. Unfortunately they don’t serve Moscow mules in the tin cups anymore… wah wah wah Location is also pristine. 5 min walk to The Loving Cup. 5 min walk to Imperial.

My visit to St. James Infirmary took place on a Saturday around 6pm. I was meeting a friend for drinks. Parking: I parked right in front of the bar on California. There’s lots of available street parking. . The Experience: The bartender was a young man who promptly greeting me upon entering. He especially made himself helpful when I inquired about their available bar selection. The atmosphere was very low key. There were only two other guests when I arrived. To drink I had a Grapefruit Greyhound.(A great summer time drink FYI). They don’t have a fruit press so sadly you won’t be able to experience the fresh tartness of the grapefruit. Which is why thought my drink was just okay. The interior is painted black from the walls to the bar. Not quite the most comfortable setting for day drinking. I bet at night it looks cool however when the sun is still out it made me feel like I was in a club. I’d return.

The owner’s a dick but there are so few places you can wear a beard, tattoo sleeves, and a rope for a belt while drinking $ 12 beers from la foo foo, isbeckibeckistan without looking like a douchebag.

St. James has one of my favorite patios. I love sitting up on the rooftop and people watching. Bonus points for having a separate(albeit, limited) bar up there too. Inside is a little dark and pink for me — I find it annoying for some reason. I do love the décor though. I think I’ve only sat down there one time. Because of this, I’m typically only here in the warmer months when I can sit outside. Service has always been quick, but I have noticed that even basic drinks vary from bartender to bartender so you’re not consistently getting what you ordered or what you had the last time. Worth a stop in for a least a drink while you’re in the area — but maybe that patio will suck you in to staying longer!

Good for cheap drinks and a clean«dive bar» atmosphere without the risks of needles or bathrooms that are entirely wet.

We were out bar hopping Friday night with another couple in the midtown area. First of all, it’s really fun learning about an area of town that has been improving over the last few years. All the business’ in midtown have done a great job reviving the area. On this particular night the bouncer was checking everyone’s ID’s(great!). I felt like I was in my 20’s again but noticed the crowd was more my age group. Awesome. A few of the other places made this 30’s something feel like an old maid. The DJ, which was a lady was playing the best tunes and the dance floor was occupied pretty much the whole time. My friends and I cannot wait to come back and enjoy this establishment again,

I can’t believe it took me SOLONG to visit this place! I loved this place and know that I’ll be back because one of the drinks I ordered was one of the best drinks I’ve ever had. The sparkling sangria was light, refreshing, delicious, and fruity– everything that you want a sparkling sangria to be. The atmosphere in here is perfect for a big group of people or an intimate«drinks» date. I’ll be coming back and suggesting this place to all of my friends!

Wowza! This place is hopping on a Saturday night. Can you tell I’m not a usual part of the bar scene? After getting our id’s checked and heading inside I muscled myself up to the bar. I got voted loudest yell so we figured I’d have the best chance to get the bartenders attention or maybe it was the low-cut of my dress. You’ll never know ;) I was helped after the two other groups at the bar. I ordered a Stella, a Strongbow Cider, and a tequila sunrise. None of these drinks were for me. I was the DD for the evening so I had a water. The bartender was quick to get the drinks made and paid for. I cannot comment on the drinks since I didn’t partake of them but I will say the bartender didn’t get the Stella right. We don’t actually know what beer it ended up being but everyone voted that it was definitely not a Stella. This place was THE place to be on a Saturday night. They played a good mix of music and since the weather was nice we were able to escape some of the crowd by staking claim on the roof. I love the décor of this place but not being a huge fan of crowds I would prefer a weeknight at this place next time instead.

I’ve heard so many good things about this bar(including a warning about that *smell*, which my nose tells me are definitely the chemicals from the old-tyme photo booth) that I wanted to take one of my friends to check it out. Notice that I said *one* friend, not many. Even when we arrived at around 6:30 on a Friday, there weren’t many seats available at the bar, and we snagged the last two on the short side facing the door. The décor was amazing, and had a good balance between classy and chic. I was reminded slightly of a bar that I’d visited once in Reno several years ago and think has since closed. The drinks were excellent, and even my very choosy friend who likes her drinks sweet and and sassy was able to find something to suit. Service was quick, we barely had to give the bartenders a glance and they were over there like lickety split. I was surprised to find out how low our tab was at the end of the two hours that we were there. Very good value. We’ll be back.

Best moscow mule I have ever had. Went here on a Saturday night and was expecting it to be busy. There were only a few other people around which I found strange. This was my first time bar hopping around Reno and I was expecting so much more! Why the 4 stars then? The bartender was super friendly. The drinks were fantastic. The moscow mule was made with fresh ginger and served in a copper mug. A moscow mule isn’t a moscow mule if it isn’t served in a copper mug. St. James got this one right. The other mixed drinks on the cocktail were appealing although I didn’t try them. There are quite a few booths inside and some tables upstairs on the deck. No food is served here though so grab something before you make the trip.

This is a great place to grab a drink with out of town guests. The patio upstairs or the couches /lounge area downstairs both offer a great vibe. We were most recently in there on a week night after a dinner in the area. Service at the bar was quick and friendly. We opened a tab, grab our drinks and headed upstairs to enjoy the patio. It was chilly so we just our group was upstairs. The bench along the perimiter is great to relax on. We had a few rounds of drinks and the bartender was prompt as soon as I came downstairs and ordered. I cleared the tab and headed up with the last round. Restrooms were clean and in good order. I’ve been on more crowded nights and service has been hard. This night was easy and not busy so we lucked out. It’s definitely one of my favorite spots when I want a drink downtown or have friends in visiting.
