I was in the market for a set of ski poles for my kids. Most rental shops sell used equipment fairly cheaply and earlier in the day we were at a place called Bobos that was selling used equipment(including used poles). Not wanting to pay too much though we decided to shop around a bit for the best deal. So I called(to save gas) and the dialog went like this: Me: Hi, do you sell used ski equipment? Sundance representative: No, we don’t sell used equipment. Me: Do you know where in town I can get used ski equipment? Sundance rep: There’s no one in town that sells used equipment that I know of. Now either this person was uninformed about his product and what the competition is selling in town or not being truthful. I suspect the ladder but does it really matter? He misinformed me. If he did not know then he should just say so.

I was a little worried about using this place given the poor previous reviews but figured that most of them were quite old. We actually had a great experience here — courteous and prompt equipment fitting, saved a lot of money at 20 dollars a day as well as time(the lines at the Mt Rose rental looked daunting). When we said we wanted a two day rental, the staff member was nice enough to recommend renting for just one day and calling in to extend just in case weather or enthusiasm made a wash of the second day since they had a no refund policy. When we did call to extend for the second day, he also warned us that there was a storm coming and we might not get a full day of skiing(and he was right — they closed all but one lift at Mt Rose at around noon today). This kind of honesty is refreshing in these days. I highly recommend this place if you are staying in Reno and skiing Mt Rose.

12÷2÷2014 — Today I went to visit my favorite haunt in the Downtown Reno area. I love this place! Today was the first day of snow and Gary was so nice. Since we visit his shop often throughout the year, he gave me a good deal on my ski rental. They know their stuff and whenever we go there we always get excellent service. Just wondering why Unilocal hasn’t posted any past reviews that I have given to this company.

Before my foot surgery on Feb 2, I asked my fiancé if he could take us to ski trip. Of course we still came back to rent the ski gears at this place. Seriously, I was surprised to see this place got the negative reviews. I have rent ski gears with this place more than 4 times and every time I had a great experience here. First of all, I was born with flat feet and because of that cause me a bunions. Having bunions not only make me harder to find the shoes that fit properly, also they always fore me to buy a larger size shoe to accommodate the width the bunion creates. Moreover, It’s hard for me to ski all day long without any pain. The guy(which I think he is the owner) asked me what size I wear and when I tried them on it was so hurt especially on my left foot. I told him about bunions so he came to look at my feet and got me another boots. He gave me width ski boots to try on.(They were really new boots) And I had no problem all day skiing. It was my new awesome experience skiing without pain! He also recommended us which resort to go to during that time. I have highly recommend this place!

I was surprised to see this place got such negative reviews after my experience here, which was nothing but positive. Stopped by on the way to Tahoe to rent a snowboard and the person who helped us was really friendly and helpful. I had planned on only renting the board for one day, but afterward decided to extend the rental which only took about a 30 second phone call to do. On the last day of using the board, one of the straps for the boots broke – I took it back expecting to be charged for the damage since I figured they would blame me for it even though it wasn’t my fault. To my surprise, the guy at the store said no extra charge and refunded me for the day that it broke! Now that’s good customer service!

I rented a bike for burning man 2011 for 3 days. Thursday at 6 to sunday at 6. When they charged for 4 days even though i technically only had the bike for 3… It shouldve raised red flags. They kept on raving about how my bike was going to be in the best condition, it wasnt bad but The kickstand wasnt working and swung off in weird directions and eventually fell off, the basket was loose and rattly, and the bike seat was so small i couldnt sit on it after a day. My review is more about the service though. My bike was stolen, so i called about the deposit on sunday. He said it would be 250 to replace the bike, which was completely ridiculous because The bike was nowhere near worth that much. The expensive rental didnt even go towards it so i had to pay an additional 250 on top of the 100 to replace it. I asked i could give him another card to charge before the end of the day and he said ok they were open til 6. What disgusts me is that as soon as i hung up the phone i was notified on my phone that they had immediately charged my card. Do not rent your bike from this place, its not worth it. Burners i know this option is tempting … Especially when youre down to the last minute and need to get a bike. There are tons of bike rental places along the way that sell cheap bikes in the same condition for 50 – 60 bucks. Hope this advice helps others from being ripped off.

After receiving horrible service several years ago my girlfriend and I wanted to rent bikes for the day. Since we were staying at the Sands, Sundance leases space from them outside the hotel. We went in a day before we needed the bikes and the owner told us no problem. Just come in tomorrow at 10 when they opened and he would set us up. At 10:15 we came in and another employee seemed really confused when we said we wanted to rent bikes. He called the owner over and even though they had lots of bikes hanging on the walls they said the only 5 bikes they were renting out for the day had been reserved. My girlfriend asked if we could reserve bikes for the next day and the owner said they don’t reserve bikes. When asked how this group reserved bikes he just shrugged. We then asked if there were any other bike rental stores in town and he flat out lied to us and said they were the only ones in Reno that rented bikes. We found 4 others within a short distance. I would not recommend this business to anybody. They are rude and this was the 2nd and last time I walked out of their shop without a bike.

We had a terrible experience renting from this place. The short version: this place rented us subpar equipment, and we ended up renting proper equipment at the skit resort. But ;et me start from the beginning. We planned to catch the Northstar shuttle from one of the hotels in Reno. We arrived at the Sands early, so we figured we would rent from this shop. So they got us our stuff fairly quickly, and at a reasonable price. So we thought we had made off with great arrangements and a great deal… until he finally hit the slopes an hour later. The two of us who had skis, our boots were extremely uncomfortable, and bothering various parts of our feet and legs. Plus, I was unable to turn on one of my skis at all, probably because the edge was so worn down. My friend rented a snowboard and boots from them and he was unable to do anything on his toe side, because the boots could not be tightened to any useful degree. Plus, the snowboard had no edge on it either, so it was pretty useless overall. My friend ended up with very sore feet and couldn’t do anything for the rest of the day. We ended up renting additional equipment at Northstar after a single run with this junk equipment, which worked perfectly fine, and we were at least able to enjoy half of the day. I can understand that sometimes, certain pieces of equipment will be faulty. However, when we arrived back at the shop in the evening, we asked to talk about the equipment. I explained that we had been unable to use the equipment and the various issues we had on it. They said that the boots were our fault, since we were allowed to try them on(although on this point, I only put on one of my boots, and was told by an employee there that if one of them fit, then everything would be fine). When I explained that the equipment rented to us was unusable, and that we had rented other equipment that worked perfectly fine, they brushed us off, saying that their equipment was used every day and there was nothing wrong with it. They also said they could not find anything wrong with their equipment after checking it, although their check appeared to merely involve putting away the skis, snowboards and poles. They even went as far to imply that we were incapable skiers/snowboarders, since(according to them), all skis are the same. Not only did their products waste a good portion of our day, but the employees were rude about our complaints. Pay the extra $ 15 at the resort, remembering that you get what you pay for. Do not ever rent from this place, unless you want a horrible ski/snowboarding experience.
