I searched high and low for a twin bed for my daughter. I found one at Salvation Army that was absolutely perfect. It was beautiful but extremely overpriced for used furniture. I’d like to see them step-up the quality of their clothing. There are so many other thrift store choices in the Reno/Tahoe area. They need to be more competitive with their pricing, especially because we all know those items are being donated. I’m giving them an extra star because they do such good things in the community.

This is a great Salvation Army it’s very large and there is sure a lot to sort through. Not a complete mess, it’s somewhat cleanly, close to organized. It is in a somewhat sketch area, the Salvation Army services are right next door where Worship services are held on Saturdays, because there is a banner for the services. Also the Salvation Army apartments are very close by. This is right next to a high crime street called Wedekind. Always in the news. A very economically distressed residential area. The head manager of this and other Salvation Stores in the area has a somewhat«boss» vibe. Some of the employees have been quite rude with tough chick attitudes like right out of prison, running the place, other times I would even venture to say they were almost, but not quite helpful. In many Salvation Armies the employees have a religious Christian type vibe, but not here. There are a lot of clothes, some name brand if you can find them. There is a large kitchen ware area which its nice, the Salvation Armys tend to have a very good selection vs. other thrift stores on this. There are a lot of weirdos walking around besides the harmless shoppers and ethnicities so keep your head up. This is a nice store to peruse through if you have the time and can put forth the effort to withstand the environmental factors of the place which may make you want to turn around and walk out the door after 5 seconds.

Looking for some blankets but the ones we found either were slightly damaged or not what we were looking for at the price they were marked. Found used DVDs in good shape that we purchased for $ 2.95 each. The clerk was very helpful to get out the DVDs in the back where we could see them, I told her that we’d try to be quick but she just answered that she was serving us at that time. Very good customer service. We also found a nice dress shirt for my roommate to do his job hunting in. We didn’t find pants for him but he’s a small size and takes a 30 inch waist. We tried to look at the books but they were stacked haphazardly into piles upon the shelf without thought as to what section they should be in. I got a leather belt for $ 1.95. We will most definitely be back to see what new items they have. If your purchase is close to $.50 or $ 1, the cashier asks if you’d like to donate the extra few pennies. Perhaps that may bring in a few extra bucks to Salvation Army’s coffers. Off Wells, just before Sutro. In the center with the Sinclair gas station.

Thrift store is very expensive. Ive heard their employees, and truck drivers steal almost anything valuable, and nobody does anything about it only giving them a 3 star because what is sold that isnt stolen by their employees actually does go back into the community and their rehab program.

Over all an acceptable thrift store. Today however we arrived at 15 minutes prior to their 6PM closing. The blue and red«OPEN» sign was still on. As we entered we were greeted with several not so friendly«We’re closing in 5 minutes!». I left knowing that I could have looked for what I wanted in less than 5 minutes. I understand alerting customers to the closing time, which should be done nicely. I don’t understand closing 15 minutes early. Was a very rude experience.

My mom and I LOVE this place. We go on Thurs, because she gets the senior discount. LOVE, LOVE the two for .99 items…

I think somehow my original review migrated from the now-closed store on Wells to the Sutro store. Well, I like the Sutro store much better than the old Wells store, so it’s time to update this review. I still have the same issues with the pricing as I did in the earlier review, but the Sutro store has a MUCH more impressive selection of merchandise. My favorite part of this store is the closed-off section where they keep the antique and rare merchandise. You can actually find some REALLY cool stuff in here. Although it IS pricey, it’s still a bit cheaper than what you would pay in the antique store. This is a BIG thrift store, and they keep it well stocked. I have found many treasures here over the years.

I prefer to go to Savers rather than the Salvation Army, only because Savers is less pricey — and their clothes are always in good condition. Salvation Army is notorious in Reno for not having the best store conditions. I would rather go to Savers anyday.
