It’s unfortunate that TMCC offers online classes to make schooling more convenient for those of us with full time jobs that can’t physically go to school but refuses to work with a person on their classes or something as minute as the password for the persons email other then on the phone or in person. I hate to break it to you TMCC but some of us can’t talk on the phone at work or take time off unless it’s for a doctor appt. that comes with a note. Too bad you won’t work with me. I guess I’ll have to give my money and finish my education Somewhere else.

I got my AA from here and I have assisted my brother-​in-​law get started here. Even when we had a hiccup, staff always was communicating and got what we needed. Teachers are great and with the smaller class size than the university, they were more personable. Classes are cheaper too. So there’s not much to complain about this school besides parking sucks but since every school has sucky parking, I won’t deduct a star.

Once apon a time I did my freshman and some of my sophomore coursework here before transferring to UNR. It was great, since the classes cost much less and the campus is more centralized, making the stroll between classes easy (opposed to taking lower level classes at UNR where you will need to walk from college to college over a larger university property). The professors are friendly and helpful. There are also satellite campuses making it easier for working adults and people without cars to take classes.
Just recently, we rented a classroom from TMCC. For $ 50/​night you get a large classroom that can seat 60 people, with audio/​visual equipment and wifi that should hook up to most instructor laptops and tablets. There was some audio trouble in the classroom and a technician was unavailable after hours.
I’d rent a classroom, or take a class from this college again.

I am former sales professional switching lanes and going back to finish my college education to become a teacher. I just want to commend TMCC for the great service I have received in beginning this new journey. Going back to college after 20 plus years is not easy, but I am completely satisfied with the welcoming environment I have experienced. I especially want to commend Mr. Jose Torres-​Jasso in the admissions and records office. He was the first person I spoke to and was able to answer every single one of my questions. He was thorough with all the information. I must have taken over an hour of his time. He also walked me over to the computer and helped me fill out my application for admission and just like that it was done. He offered me his business card and encouraged me to contact him with any additional questions I may have. I am just amazed at the knowledge this young man holds and I hope I will be able to provide the same for my students in my future career. I know that I have made the right choice by starting at TMCC.
I am looking forward to being part of this institution.

Campus is ok and the cafeteria is decent.
It’s kind of a boring place and the mini fake starbucks stand in Sierra closes early or the lady is always on break.
Plenty of chairs and tables to sit around in.
But the counselors here suck they don’t know squat. I found out what I needed to know from Google because these people couldn’t help me.

I am currently a student at the University of Nevada, Reno and I am planning on taking a winter course at TMCC for transfer. However, TMCC is the most unorganized and inefficient organization I have ever seen.
I was having trouble logging into MyTMCC (where you register for classes), so I emailed the student support center where they were unable to help me and recommended that I call. The following day, I called the IT department asking for the information I needed to log in. They told me that I need my student ID number, which is different from my NSHE ID number. Unable to help (again), they asked me to call Admissions & Records. So I called, they told me the only way to get my student ID number is to use MyTMCC online (which I can’t access) or to visit the campus.
Three days later, I visit the campus and go to Admissions and Records. Here, they give me my «student ID number» which actually WAS the NSHE ID number I had all along. Then I visit the IT department where they tell me my account is inactive and I need to reapply for a second admission to the school.
Four days of my life, and a lot of frustration, could have been saved if TMCC had one of the following:
1). an online system that recovered usernames via email like every other system out there
2). a staff that understood the information they are sharing with their students
Long story short, TMCC runs a very disorganized ship. While it is convenient for quick classes, I would hope that no one ever needs to reach their administration for help because it will be stressful and unnecessary.

I started going to school in 1994 and didn’t access any support services, which obviously was to my detriment. I returned to school in 2010 to finish my Associates Degree. The only reason I am able to be successful this time is because of the wrap around services that are here at TMCC for students including Academic Advisement, Tutoring Center and DRC. I am so thankful for all the support I have received this go around and I am able to be successful and graduate! I am planning on transferring to UNR to obtain my HDFS Degree. Never in a million years did I want to go to a University, but I owe that motivation to the awesome Advising staff I work with for all the encouragement and support. I am not sure I would be doing it without their support!

Enjoying a class for adult continuing education in Decorative Tole painting. The teacher, Teresa Adams is so positive and cheerful, she’s a great educator. I took this class to learn how to use acrylics– a new medium for me. I’m having fun.

I’ve gotten my Associates of Science from TMCC, and I have to say I really did enjoy my time there.
I’ve only had maybe two professors out of my ENTIRE two and a half years at TMCC that were just completely unhelpful, but I still came out of both classes with good grades. Most of the professors are incredibly helpful, and there to make sure you succeed, not for research. Due to the smaller class sizes, professors get to know you better, and can make more time for you if need be.
There are plenty of quiet places to study and just chill if you try the upper levels of the Vista Building, or the top level of Red Mountain.
The class times are generally okay, provided you enroll immediately, and I like the fact that they have MORE class times than places like UNR. (They have classes until almost 10PM at TMCC)
The Financial Aid office is run by students who, in the last year or so, have absolutely NO idea what they’re doing. If you have to deal with them, ask for a supervisor every time. That’s how things get done. Otherwise paperwork gets lost or filed incorrectly.
Admissions and Records is hit or miss, some of their employees are great, and some are ridiculously inept.
The food on campus can be a little pricey as well, so if I’m hungry I just head down to McDonalds or somewhere similar.
Parking isn’t bad, but sometimes there’s quite a walk to your classes. Definitely better than having to pay a bunch for parking, like at UNR. ;)
Overall, I loved my time at TMCC, the professors and most of the staff are helpful and pleasant.

The TMCC Veterans Educational Office is wiling to help any veteran in their desire to return to school at Truckee Meadows Community College (TMCC). Returning to school while on active duty in today’s changing political climate is very difficult, if not impossible but when a veteran has the time after release from his or her military obligation, returning to school is a way to gain skills needed in today’s job market.
TMCC will provide those skills that employers want and in many instances, the veteran will be learning from members closely connected to those desired career fields.

I have been taking classes at TMCC for a few years now. The prices are decent and the teachers can be great (or terrible) but teacher reviews can be found on other websites. Overall, the college is mostly a convenience, but it has nothing more to offer. It is a mediocre educational institution.
Most of the staff is very unhelpful with most situations. Departments do not communicate with each other. This leads to one department reassuring you about a situation and another one telling you otherwise. When dealing with anything with any department it is always a good idea to get EVERYTHING in writing (even the things you think you might not need in writing) and cross reference the information with all the departments involved until you get a straight answer.
Overall, I suggest that if you are planning to transfer to another university TALK TO THAT UNIVERSITY’S COUNSELORS/​ADVISORS. Even if you are doing the typical transfer from TMCC to UNR the advisors and teacher are not prepared to answer most of your questions (even if some instructors believe they are).
This school is also not very good for lower level math students. Over the the past few years, their math system has developed more flaws than ever. Math classes expire after 2 years if you would like to use them for a prerequisite. Also this is understandable for lower level math classes, higher level classes are affected by this as well. I had to take my Calculus class at UNR because I did national service and my prerequisite math class expired. The accuplacer is also a bit flawed (it focuses on subjects sometimes outside the necessary knowledge to be placed in a certain class). Ok. Now to the topic of the Math skills center. So lets say you are a student who gets placed in the math skills center. The math skills center is a class for students who could not place into a math class. They remain the skills center until they can place into a math class. This center is overcrowded, understaffed, and not covered by any financial aid.
The facilities are decent. However, there are not many areas to study. There is a large «student» center, but on most occasions, it is rented out for functions by organizations other than TMCC. These functions usually have loud music or overly loud speeches that render most of the «student» center unusable.
I would have given it one star. However, the teachers and such can be really terrific and the price is less than half of that of UNR. The small class size allows for effective learning (if you research your teachers appropriately and get the good ones). Free tutoring is offered to all students if tutors are available for your subject. Also, there are other free available services that don’t share the problems the rest of the college does (Re-​entry, DRC, TLC). It could be worse, but not by much.

I decided to write a review after I had been here for a while. I gotta say for a small campus it’s very nice. I really enjoy being a student here. They offer a lot of resources like free tutoring, which is something to definitely take advantage of. I got help in the beginning of the semester with an essay. My one complaint is they REALLY need to stress the importance of the accuplacer to new students. I thought it was just a test to see where you’re at academically, I didn’t realize that it would put me into remedial classes. I had to take read/​eng 95. I’m actually quite good at English, while the class gave me useful tools, I felt that I was too smart for the class. I hope that doesn’t sound too incredibly rude. Along with one other student, we progressed to 101, skipping all of the other remedial classes. Yay me! I would definitely recommend TMCC to any person seeking higher education.

I both work and go to school here. There’s not much social interaction or many fun things around, but the school is beautiful and the people are nice if you do actually talk to them.

I really like TMCC and think that it is a great college. Classes are small and much cheaper than the other local university. Teachers have more time to spend with you and are always willing to help students when they need it. All of the other staff is also very nice and willing to help students and answer questions.

Coming from Cali, I am very confused at how this school is runned. All the way around. I just don’t understand why they make things so hard.
Ugh is the word I have for this college

The Spanish class (SPAN) is not good. The teacher is not prepared at all and everybody is complaining about the class.

I adored my professors. I adored my class mates. I pulled a great g.p.a., but had to drop a couple classes since I didn’t have enough concentration due to several deaths in the family.
However I originally signed up for the Cosmetology Program, which half way through the state cancelled our funding because the college was illegally using school loans to pay for it and we found out it was not an accredited program legally capable of accepting school loans for payment or for a degree program. So I was removed from the program since I could not come up with the remaining funds to continue with the Cosmetology Program. I feel the school cheated me along with several others out of our money and we are still having to pay back the school loans that we borrowed and paid for the program. Yet we did not get what we paid for. This school should lose their rights to teach and the professors should move to a school that is loyal.

My wife is getting some additional certifications at TMCC and all around it is a good community college with many courses and I think almost all of their courses are available online. The instructors according to my wife are helpful and easy to work with. The attitude is that the instructors work with you and students don’t work for the instructor.

I earned an Associates Degree from this school a few years ago and found the school to be very good. The campus is safe and you can take classes online or in many other areas throughout Reno/​Sparks area. At the time I went to this school, the professors were very good and it was easy for me to get into the classes I needed. I found that most of the instructors and professors were knowledgeable and cared about their jobs.
The downside to this school is the format they have the class schedule. I found it hard to complete a two year degree in two years do to the format of how they offer classes. You have to really be on the schedule and know what classes to take months before you can register for classes. Additionally I found it to be really hard to work full or part time and go to school. A lot of the classes they offer are only during the day and not at night.
The major downside to this school is the parking and costs. It cost me four times the amount of money to go to this school compared to a California community college, even with in state tuition. I found that the education was good, but it wasn’t necessarily worth the extra costs.
Parking is an issue at any school, but it seems that this college parking spot availability hasn’t kept up with their enrollment. Generally 90% plus students drive cars to school and need a place to park, there seems to be a lapse in new parking that is convenient, efficient, and safe. Especially with state budget cuts people are going to be going to this school more because it is the best choice for a dollar spent. If you are going to class you should probably allow an extra 20 minutes to drive around looking for a spot to park.
I find the extra fees they charge to be higher then the average for community colleges. Additionally they do not offer a student health clinic and other student social services like UNR and a lot of other schools do.

I have always preferred the professors at TMCC over those at UNR. And i’ve taken quiiiiite a few courses at each.
Positives:
–Small class sizes
–Lots of individual attention
–Professors with nothing to «prove’» — no egos
–Focus on real-​world application
–Much more down-​to-​Earth
–Efficient and effective programs designed to get you in and out and on your career path asap.
–Up-​to-​date and well-​designed compact campus
–Parking: can be a bit of a hassle at times if you have a class mid-​day, but still blows UNR’s parking issues out of the water.
–YOU LEARN MORE. I’ve taken the gambit here: nutrition, calculus, biology, core humanities, creative writing; I remember MORE from the courses I took here than I do from the courses i took at UNR. Better teaching… period.
Negatives:
–Location. Ugh.
–Location of their South Reno campus too. Ugh.
–Fewer places to go to study.
–Fewer options for meals.
Recommendation:
–if you’re graduating high school and you don’t yet know what you want to do, spend a year here and take a variety of classes. Go nuts. Narrow down your focus a bit for a LOT less money… and then move onto UNR with a better idea of what you want to do. It’s what I wish I would’ve done. =]
