I LOVE Top Pot donuts, & I was excited to take donuts to my co-workers in Sumner this morning… But it’s 7:10 on a Wednesday…& still no Top Pot… Sadness.

Today I tried Top Pot Doughnuts in Renton. I pre-ordered over the phone so it was ready to pick up, which was a good idea because that place gets busy. The doughnuts are delicious and this particular store is in a cute shopping area with a lot to do and restaurants. A great area to walk around and check things out. I’ll definitely be coming back.

Swoon. Are you kidding me? Top Pot Doughnuts in an airstream trailer. Couldn’t be cuter. What brought me down to earth was that(obviously) the doughnuts are not made on site, so you aren’t getting the freshest product. It also means that supplies at this location are limited, so a couple of our preferred choices weren’t available. But, what we did eat was delicious(the apple fritter was especially divine). As was the accompanying coffee drink. Cute seasonal and Seahawks themed doughnuts and great service. Next time I’ll make sure to visit the flagship café in downtown Seattle to get the full experience.

Definitely so much better than the Renton Landing location! I actually hit up both Top Pot locations within a couple of minutes(because I was disappointed by the Landing location). The apple fritter was life changing. The absolute best apple fritter I’ve had! The outside was perfectly crisp, but the inside was baked thoroughly and very soft. Some parts were more doughy, but I think that was due to the moisture from the apple bits. Now, it would be given a 5 rating if more apples had been in it(I only found like 4 tiny pieces of apple) and if it didn’t have a flake of a burnt doughnut crumb on mine.(I kept wondering what the black spot atop my doughnut was and realized it wasn’t a raisin, but a burnt black piece of dough.) Would I come back? Please, I’ll eat all of their apple fritters!

Don’t hate on me, because I know that I am in the minority here, but I think Top Pot doughnuts are overrated, and are just OK as far as taste. Also, they are way overpriced. I mean, come on, it’s just doughnuts, people! Everyone in Seattle just seems to love them, and yes, they have some very original flavors that they look really pretty on a break-room table(I have purchased my share of them by the dozen to bring to meetings with co-workers). But where I come from(East Coast), donuts aren’t a gourmet item… they are a cheap breakfast eaten with non-Starbucks coffee by people on their way to work… or as an after-church treat on Sundays. And you can always judge the quality of a donut shop not by their selection of flavors, but by one thing… how their plain cake donut tastes. If their plain cake donut is perfect, then you know everything else will be good. Top Pot doesn’t pass that test. There are several small independent donut shops in Seattle that do! Sorry, I just don’t feel you, Top Pot.

My only complaint is that they always run out of Double Troubles before I get there.

My review is 100% based on the selection ~ not the quality of donuts. This location is a food truck and not a regular store so the selection is very limited. If you like cake donuts you will probably be happy– they even had a Seahawks cake donut with vanilla frosting & Seahawks color sprinkles! They only had two yeast donuts– maple bar or Boston Cream… I was in the mood for neither of those(and as much as I Loooove my Hawks– I Don’t care for cake donuts) so I sadly walked away empty handed. :-(

Thank you for joining the McClendon family! I don’t often get doughnuts, but it’s always funt o treat my kids with some good sugar glazed bribery to keep them happy while we are at the hardware store. Apple fritters and maple bars are my favorite, especially when I get a good Americano along with them.

Is it a coincidence that we live 5 minutes away from an outpost of our favorite doughnut shop in the country? Perhaps not… The Airstream Trailor-turned TopPot outlet is conveniently parked outside the McClendon’s in Renton. Its easy to miss at first, as it is recessed from the street, but a gem once found. The doughnuts are just as great as their flagship location downtown. I do have a few general complaints that force me to downgrade this to a 4-star review: 1. The price — getting Top Pot every weekend can end up being pricey(ranging from $ 1.50 to $ 3) 2. The selection — they don’t have the variety that I’d like to see sometimes, but let’s face it — its run out of a trailer. 3. The wait — as there’s only 1 worker at any given time(who needs bathroom breaks from time to time), we’ve had to wait for service at this location for 5 – 10 minutes, unattended. Either way, its easier than driving downtown to get our doughnut fix!

Yayyyyyyyyyy. I love doughnuts. I love Top Pot doughnuts even more. Ahhhh. I’m so excited. Ahhhhhhhh. Okay, so my husband and I just moved here, and less than 12 hours after arriving you could have found me standing right outside of this adorable Airstream giddily picking out a doughnut selection.(For our movers, calm down, I wasn’t the only one that ate them.) They’re fresh, they’re delicious, I love that slight toothsome chewiness that they have(especially with that simple glazed doughnut — or the cinnamon roll!), and they’re always perfect. The guys that works here is super nice, which made for an all around great experience. I don’t know what to say besides that you should stop reading this and get here since they close at around 4pm. The doughnuts are a little pricier, but they’re definitely worth it. Ahhhh. I’m probably going to go «grocery shopping» today — just so that I can«accidentally» stop by…

Great idea with the Airstream trailer and revolving doughnut sign! The doughnuts were excellent, especially the maple old-fashioned and the raspberry-filled. My wife was excited to try the Ovaltine latte, but wasn’t impressed with the taste.

I ordered the Glazed Old Fashioned doughnut($ 1.65). It was a delectable, uniquely designed doughnut. A slight crispiness on the outside with a moist, soft inside. Top Pot knows how to make their doughnuts, that’s for sure. The glaze wonderfully coated the doughnut like a blanket on a newborn baby. No glazed crumbly mess here(unlike glazed doughnuts I’ve had at other places). It was also quite balanced, being sweet but not overly so. Best of all, it was airy and light, not dense and unappetizing. It seems only fitting that Top Pot’s founders released a book of their best doughnut recipes in September 2011. It’s already received rave reviews. The best part is that you don’t need a deep fryer. Healthier doughnuts! Yes! If there’s anything to nitpick about, I checked Top Pot’s website. All their doughnuts contain wheat, soy, dairy, and eggs. The doughnuts also are made in a facility that contains nuts. So it’s probably not a place for the gluten intolerant, dairy-intolerant, etc., as far as doughnuts are concerned. But if you got no dietary restrictions, look no further than Top Pot Doughnuts to cure that doughnut craving!

If you love doughnuts, skip the Fred Meyer bakery and cross the street. This little Airstream packs a punch with its pastries. Likes: Maple bar, apple fritter, and any old-fashioned variety(try the pumpkin or chocolate covered) Dislikes: Any of the cake doughnuts. Too greasy.
