Came here because of all the good reviews. Let me just say, it was hella nasty! I was about to get a coffee but my cousin pointed out that they had bottles of Lee’s coffee behind the counter. Smh never again !

Was craving Vietnamese iced coffee(espresso + condensed milk also sometimes referred to as French Coffee, as it is here) so I searched Unilocal for the closest spot that was open early. What I found was this small shop with helpful, friendly service and unbelievably reasonable prices. Together my fiancé and I ended up getting an iced coffee, avocado smoothie, and egg sandwich for only $ 10?!? The iced coffee was as expected and absolutely satisfying and the avocado smoothie was fresh and used real avocados(not powder like some other places do). What a steal for the price — I cant imagine getting a smoothie and a coffee alone anywhere else for $ 10 much less a sandwich too. A great find — will be back soon!

Pretty tasty sandwiches in a no nonsense environment. The ingredients and flavor were great although they could’ve put a bit more into the sandwiches. The bread was too crispy for me and sliced up the roof of my mouth. That is almost a breaking point for me. But it may have just been the batch of bread they had that day. I’ll give it one more try before I decide.

My favorite Ban Mi place. I always get the roasted pork with extra jalapeños. The sandwich is about a footlong but disappears fast. The baguettes are super fresh, the meat lean and veggies are crisp. It is also a steal at 4 bucks. They don’t speak much English but service is very friendly and they seem to have regulars who hang out at one of the few tables.

Very small shop. Although there are 2 tables, you’re not really meant to stay and eat. 3 color drink was okay. Did not come mixed, so not only was it warm until I mixed it and let it sit a while, but it proved to be a lot more ice than I was expecting. Maybe 40% ingredients + 60% ice. And because ice is less dense than water, by the time it was partially melted, it only took up two-thirds of the cup or so. Sandwich was passable, but would not necessarily go out of my way for it.

Best Bahn Mi in the SF Valley. The spring rolls are great too. Get there early if you want spring rolls because they sell out quickly.

It was my first time at Van Sandwiches and I didn’t know what to do. I walked in from the parking lot, there were people eating at their tables and there was a guy eating behind the counter. I’m thinking ok do I leave him alone while he eats because it was 12:00 or do I say excuse and ask if I can order. So I chose the later, he asked me what I wanted. I looked behind the counter for a menu but I didn’t see one. I asked him for a menu and he told me to look at the wall behind me. I ordered the pork loaf with pâté($ 3.50). It was very yummy!!! He loaded with lots of meat and veggies where it completely filled me till the next morning. I will definitely be back.

Awesome vegan sandwich and banh cam for great prices. I stop here every time I am in the area. If you come first thing in the morning, the fresh banh tieu and youtiao are a must have.

Finally made it to Vinh Lo Tofu to find that they were closed for vacation. Hungry, we tried Van’s sandwiches. Entered with trepidation, and left HUGEFANS! I want to go back everyday! Officially obsessed.

I had their hu tieu tom cua thit and it was amazing! Its a light fish broth with shrimp and crab and pork. I asked them not to put in the pork and it was really yummmmmmy! People are very nice here. Its a small place in a shopping center. If you are in the area you should check it out.

Very authentic hole in the wall joint, looks like a small convenience store with a mishmash of Vietnamese foods and assorted chips and gum. #4 pork sandwich had just the right balance of sweet pork with vegetables and a touch of jalapeño. Ordered an ice coffee with boba; very thick and strong! Yes, the English is limited, but during my limited time in there, there were two other non-Asian patrons who also ordered successfully. Cash only, but the prices are extremely affordable. Friendly atmosphere.

I was here only for some desert with friends. I had a smoothie with durian. It was yummie. You can tell that the owner and his wife are really genuine people, who care for the quality of their food and drinks. I’ll come back for sure!

Great banh mi on a fresh baguette! I get the grilled pork. $ 3.75 and big enough to share. It’s a tiny place but they made enough room for a bunch of Vietnamese ingredients, market-y goods and to-go foods to peruse while you wait. And you will wait, cause everything is made fresh. These peeps are all business so non-Vietnamese speakers — don’t expect service with a HUGE smile, just a little one. CASHONLY

Was looking for a boba drink that had great boba and made with fresh fruit, none of the powdery stuff. Well, this is it! We’ve been there twice now and the drinks are consistently delicious ! The people behind the counter are so helpful and want to please. They have a variety of boba drinks, with pictures posted on the wall. The staff is helpful in describing the various flavors available, too. Would I return? You betcha, can’t wait!

Of all the times that I’ve been eating at Vietnamese places, I never realized that I was eating pre-made spring rolls that have been sitting around for awhile. After my visit to Van Sandwiches, I had my first freshly-made spring roll and it was DEEEE-LICIOUS! It was served with some spicy sauce, which I absolutely loved! I prefer this sauce over the peanut one that’s normally served with spring rolls. it was soo cheap too!

B health code rating, non-descript strip mall, cash only — things were looking promising at Van Sandwiches, a tiny, cramped banh mi shop in the SFV. They had 10 kinds of banh mi, coffee, boba drinks, Chinese donuts, and noodle soups. Grab n’ go items like summer rolls, cha lu, and rice plates sat on small tables. The wait was longer than usual for banh mi even though there wasn’t a long line. The regulars all seemed to be having rice porridge with bean sprouts and cubes of pig’s blood(chao long). They were also watching Vietnamese TV intently. * Special sandwich #1($ 3.50): A footlong thin sandwich featured thin slices of ham and cha lu, a tiny bit of cilantro(half of the sandwich didn’t have cilantro), jalapenos, pickled carrots and daikon, and a smear of pâté. The bread was chewy but didn’t have a nice crunch(but I didn’t eat it right away). The meat had good flavor but there wasn’t much of it. The veggies were crispy, sweet and not tangy enough. Cash only.
