Astor Square Wine & Liquor

Great little wine & liquor shop. The owner (?) really know his stuff, and is super helpful without being judgemental. I sometimes pop in en route to a party with various needs — like «a good French red, but not mainstream, on the dry side, but not tart, for under $ 20» — and he is always happy to help and has never steered me wrong.
He’s also helped special order me a rare whiskey for a great price; and with no pressure. I’d mentioned it in conversation, and he found it and had it in stock two weeks later. Amazing.
It’s not a bargain basement shop by any means, but it’s jess pretentious than the shops right in Rhinebeck, and a lot more friendly than Sipperly’s in Red Hook. I do wish he had a better selection of interesting 3L boxes, but that’s about it.
