Please discontinue that nasty cardboard with sprinkles that y’all call a King Cake. It is so nasty. Please do not disrespect the city of New Orleans by continuing to sell this during Mardi Gras. Please google what king cake is supposed to look like. Better yet just go to New Orleans and visit Gambino’s or Antoines and do a taste test.

As every aging drag queen doing Bette Davis impressions would say: «What… A… DUMP.» I was struck, the moment I walked in the right-hand door(as you’re facing the store), by a smell of trash. Garbage. Rotted food. But the produce section wasn’t anywhere nearby? What was this smell and why is it so pronounced? The store is old, small, and very limited in its selection. No matter how many customers are present, only two checkstands will be open. On this last visit I was caught forever in the«express» lane while four customers in a row paid with a CHECK. Yes, the average age of customers here seems to be about 78. When I walk in, they call me «sonny». (Hey old folks — if you’re going to Albertsons and you know you’re going to write a check, how about pre-writing everything out except for the amount, before you leave the house? That’ll save you at least five minutes! Why does no one over 75 writing a check seem to know what date it is?) How does Albertsons survive? I have no clue. I go here for one specific product I can’t get at any other grocery store, so I only have to go once every few months. But it’s still a pain. Albertsons is clearly circling the drain.

Oh Alberstons what happened to thee? You’re like the lame gazelle at the back of the pack about to be eaten by a hungry lion. At one time you had pretty nice store, and a hefty market share, now you just struggle along breathing the last gasps of a dying chain. It’s a slow and painful death, but really Albertsons you have no one to blame but yourself. I live about a mile away, and this is the closest store to my apartment. I honestly had not shopped with them in years because of issues in the past. My first few trips were good, store was somewhat below average, but they had products I couldn’t find at my regular haunt. Came in one day to pick up some non food stuffs. It was a bit late, I was in a hurry and didn’t really think I needed to check the date. Got home and realized it was a year and a half out of date. Go back a few days later, need some strawberries for a cheesecake. They have maybe a dozen packs of fresh strawberries, every single one was overly ripe, on the verge of rotting, and badly bruised. Had to take the best of the worst and make do. **edit 8/7/14** Quality and selection has not improved in the last year at all. I needed some fresh basil the kind in the small plastic package was rotten, wilted, and black. The«live» basil was in only slightly better shape so I just skipped buying it all together. Couldn’t get any service in the deli and had to buy kraft provolone cheese, couldn’t find prosciutto or marsala wine either. Maybe my expectations were a bit high on the last two but the other two stores in the area carry prosciutto so I didn’t think it was unreasonable to expect. Poor produce quality seems to be the biggest issue at the location. Although I couldn’t get help in the deli today service here is usually very good. The staff is always friendly.

Clean store, shiny floor. Other grocers in the area, but nobody can top the appearance of Albertsons. Friendly staff, too.

Full of ghetto people(customers AND employees), ridiculously expensive for mediocre quality, and very limited selection. I stopped here one morning to get cupcakes for a coworkers birthday and they were twice the price I would have paid somewhere else, not to mention they weren’t as good as the cupcakes I make myself at home.

This store reminds me of the ones I grew up with. Not too flashy, just a regular old grocery store. The nostalgia brings me in. The lack of proteiny items tossed me back out into the cold. I wanted to buy some whole chickens. When I checked theirs out, the packaging ‘bladder’(that gross pad thing in the bottom of the packages that soaks up the moisture to make the meat appear less wet) wasn’t even able to contain the moisture. It looked super wet inside the plastic, leading me to believe that it probably wasn’t very fresh. I opted for a frozen lasagna and the missing items I needed for ginerbread cookies, instead. Checking out was a breeze as the store just wasn’t busy for a Saturday afternoon.
