Went to this location for the fist time yesterday. My boyfriend got the sausage and ham with Mac and cheese and mashed potatoes. I got the pulled pork and brisket with coleslaw and potato salad. They took our order quickly and we got our drinks and fixins while we waited. By the time we sat down they called our name to pick up the order. Everything was great and tasted fantastic. Our meal came with 1 dinner roll and we put the honey butter spread on it. Before we finished a staff member came around with a big bowl of rolls. We decided we had to have one more. It was a good decision. The place was nice and clean and the staff was polite and helpful. I believe we will be coming back here to get our BBQ fix.

Dickeys has better bbq, and dickeys customer service blows sonny Bryan’s out of the park. Doesn’t even compare. Not to mention overpriced for a dirty hole in the wall.

Not terrible… But not Texas style bbq. Seems kinda pricey for what you get. $ 14.00 for 2 meat plate was about 6 bux too much. Especially with cold sides, and self service style. $ 14.00 is not too much for a good bbq plate, but it kinda needs to be perfect. Im not coming back… Bob

I ordered the ¾ lb dinner with barbecue brisket. Brisket was fork tender, tasted great. They provided plenty of sauce. It was slightly spicy which was perfect with the potato salad. The sides(potato salad and beans) tasted Great and good portions. I ordered it as takeout — they had it ready in minutes. Great service-will definitely go back! I would have given them 5 stars if they offered banana pudding-their cobbler is good but would have liked a little more variety in desserts.

I won’t go back. Tonight was my third trip to SB for to go orders. This was also the third time that they got my order wrong. They are close enough for a last minute meal idea, but too far to go back and ask them to do it right. I’m done… no more.

Eh… My first meal in Dallas. I ordered the hot wings and an order of fries. The food was brought out very quickly. The fries were absolutely great. Perfectly seasoned and perfectly cook. The wings, however, were dry. I drowned them in some of the homemade — warm — bbq sauce to make them palatable. The restaurant also provides free rolls that are brought around to the table. They also have free to go cups. Would I return? Probably not.

Not impressed at all. Was hoping for some authentic Texas BBQ and was unfortunately disappointed. I had ribs because apparently that is what they’re famous for. They tasted like they had been sitting in the fridge for a few days and then pulled out and heated up on the grill. No smoke or BBQ flavor whatsoever. Quite deceiving because you could smell smoke outside the building. Perhaps they only have smoked meat ready for lunch. Won’t be going back.

This place has really deteriorated. I remember coming here when I was attending college at UTD and it used to be packed around lunch time. I came here with a birthday coupon on a Friday at noon and there were only 4 tables taken. I ordered the rib plate and the ribs tasted old… it was obvious that they piled on the BBQ sauce to mask the staleness. When it comes to BBQ fast food, I think it’s tough to beat Spring Creek; I like how they cut the meat in front of you and let you pile on the side dishes yourself. At Sonny’s, everything is done in the kitchen so you dont have line of sight to how your food is prepared. I won’t be coming back here, even with a birthday coupon.

We had a $ 5 off coupon on a $ 20 purchase so we headed for the local Sonny Byran’s. I ordered the ribs and potato salad and my spouse ordered the pulled port sandwich with green bean casserole. The ribs were apparently pre cooked in an oven and had dried out. They were extremely tough to eat and the flavor was far from being a good bar b q flavor. The potatoe salad apparently came from a bucket of potato salad that had been purchased from a food supplier. The pulled pork sandwich was good according to my spouse however the green bean casserole was green beans in a lot of liquid with some fried chips of some sort thrown in. She did not eat all of mixture nor did I eat the potato salad. I ate two of the five ribs and took the other three home to see if there was something I could do to turn them into bar b q ribs. The fresh hot rolls brought around to your table are excellent. The condiments were full of dill pickles, onions, etc and all were full and fresh. The plates of ribs are $ 12.99 and the brisket plates are $ 12.29 plus 99 cents extra for the brisket with the ribs being $ 12.99. For what we received the prices are way too much and the bar b q was certainly not the best. I just wondered if the meat had been cooked before hand in an over an then placed on the grill to warm the meat up. The reason I think this was I saw some ribs being«grilled» on the grill.

Don’t waste your money… They advertise smoked wings. Then I got the deep fried crap you would expect anywhere but a BBQ joint. The sides were sickening, the brisket mediocre and we left without eating. And not even an offer to refund our money just a flippant not sorry attitude…

Just ok. I haven’t been to this location in many years. I received a free birthday sandwich plate ail and this was close. They have a passable bbq experience but that’s it. These satilite locations don’t come close to the original on Inwood unfortunately. They could if they wanted to, so with all the new Q competition«bringing it» why don’t they up their game? The meat was alittle grey looking and chewy. The bun was weird. The potatoe salad tasty and beans average. I’ll probably not be back to this location.

This BBQ isn’t worth $ 15 a plate… I’ve had top notch BBQ and was recommended to come here, never again. I’ll go as far as to say that Spring Creek BBQ is better than this place. Just fyi Spring Creek BBQ isn’t top notch. I’m literally piss as I type this because my brisket was dry and cold… Anyways to each there own find out for yourself.

My teenage daughter & I stopped by for an early supper after attending the Heart of Texas Dallas Bowl. We live in the Bryan/College Station & Greater Houston Area. Yes, I am a foodie & proud of my daughter as a foodie in training. She is a tough cookie to please culinary wise. Our first time at any Sonnys but definitely not our last. Our meal(cliché en route) was awesome. First off, great greeting & customer service from order taker/cashier & food expeditor. We both got the ½ lb plate w Jal Sausg & Lean Brisket. Meats were moist, tender, full of flavor & portions were more than enough. I hav never had warm BBQ sauce before but my daughter has, explained its pros and it was really good. I didnt have pork but tried the(vinegar & mustard based.?) Pork Sauce which was really tasty. My onion rings were big, thick, crispy out/moist in, lightly seasoned & very well held together. The best onion ring Ive had in a long time. My cole slaw was good, crunchy & chunky but I wldv liked more of a serving; no biggie or deal breaker though. My daughter had the mac&chs plus baked beans; her plate was left empty which is not too common for her. Alas, both our plates were wiped clean with delicious freshly baked hot rolls that a server delivered to our table. I do my research before I try out a new eatery; I rarely just stumble upon a gem. A true TX gem this eatery & location was. Thx & see you soon! Mur Cripmus.

If you are in Texas, and you have a restaurant that claims to be a smokehouse, shouldn’t you at least have good BBQ? The positives: — Décor was pretty decent — Fried Okra and the baked beans were good. — The pulled pork was decent — The sauce was pretty good The Negatives: — Had the brisket. A quick sign that the brisket isn’t going to be any good is when they thin slice it. It makes a tough piece of meat appear to be tender. This brisket was sliced on a meat slicer instead of by hand in very thin strips. — The brisket had virtually no flavor, it was dry and overcooked. It was pretty obvious that it had sat out for a while and someone picked up a slab and sliced it up. The brisket had some redness(indicating a smoke ring), but it didn’t taste at all like it had truly been smoked. — The price was pretty over the top. $ 16 for a half pound with a couple small sides and a soda. If this was really good BBQ, that would be worth it, but if you are going to serve pretty pedestrian BBQ, that’s overpriced.

Stopped because restaurant was on man vs food. Pulled chicken was fantastic. Briscuit was average at best. Mac and cheese was horrible. Dinner for one was $ 20 so it isn’t cheap. I will stick with my neighborhood bbq place over this one.

We came here tonight with a large group from our church. This was the first time I have tried this particular restaurant. I ordered a turkey sandwich with french fries and macaroni and cheese. The turkey was delicious and I liked the seasoning on the fries. The mac and cheese was okay, but nothing stand out about it. My hubs ordered the ½ combination plate with fried okra and french fries. He said that his ribs were not good and really didn’t have much to them. As far as the other meats, the Turkey was the only thing that stood out. We probably won’t be back. It was cool, however, that they had a large room in the back. This made it extremely convienent for our large party to sit together.

I went here recently with my kids on a visit. I looked all through a menu both on the board and in paper and didn’t see any kid’s plates so figured they didn’t offer that. So my daughter just wanted ribs and I had to pay $ 9 for ribs, a bun and a drink. I later found out she could have gotten a child’s plate with ribs, a vegetable, drink, roll and oreo cookies for just $ 5. It just wasn’t advertised anywhere, and the service people didn’t let us know. I wonder how many other parents pay the higher adult prices for their kids, thinking they don’t have a child’s plate.

as far as meat goes. I had better. I visited here on Sunday when it is not busy at all. the service is very good when the owner asks us warmly how is everything and they bring the basket of rolls to us asking if we would like more. i ordered the rib dinner plate. the ribs are very dry and salty. the side dishes are very good. fried okra is very well seasoned. their portion is very good which I got 5 – 6 pieces of big ribs that I could not finish! over all this place is good for one time for the experience.

For openers, if you believe the best barbecue is found in the worst part of town in places with bars on the windows and just enough grease on the table to write your initials, this isn’t it. And if you believe you can keep the same high standard when you start putting the same name joint on every street corner, you’re going to be disappointed and Sonny Bryan’s Smokehouse is a good example. Eating at the original Sonny Bryan’s, you sat at a junior high size school desk and savored some of the best ‘cue to be found in the great Southwest. Now that the original is nothing but a memory, the various Sonny Bryan’s Smokehouses that have popped up on most every other street corner do nothing but sully the memory and the standard set by the original. Knowing better, but willing to take a chance, we went to this Bryan’s and had what could best be described as a just about average meal in an antiseptic restaurant. that shouted«franchise» As someone who has spent a lifetime in pursuit of the perfect barbecue(read other reviews from across the country), do you really want TVs while tearing into a rack f ribs? Yeast rolls? Yes, yeast rolls. Servers make the rounds every few minutes offering yeast rolls… not sliced white bread that’s served in most self respecting barbecue joints, or even Texas toast, but yeast rolls! Foo foo at best, if not outright sacrilegious. The Brown Shoe Gourmet ordered a very reasonably priced three meat special: ribs, pulled pork and chopped brisket. Onion rings(more on them in a minute), fries and slaw. Others had the half of chicken and pulled chicken. Bryan’s does a couple very smart things: first off, they keep their sauce warm(think Fat Matt’s in Atlanta) and offer it in small uncapped bottles(discouraging folks from taking the sauce home), there’s a separate sauce recommended for the pork and they have a serving area with as much and many ;pickle slices, jalapenos and onions you may want. That’s the good news. That and that the staff is friendly, the service is prompt — almost fast food like — are on the«plus» side of the ledger. The four ribs were on the dry side on the three meat platter were on the dry side. The pulled pork was moist, good flavor although it was hard to taste a real smoke flavor. The chopped beef could have just as well been chopped stew meat soaked in sauce. When those who love barbecue think of Texas barbecue, they think of brisket, but not on this night at Sonny Bryan’s. The chicken half or pulled, turns ot may have been a better choice. Those who ordered it gave both high marks. The slaw was bland to boring, served in generous supply; the fries were hand cut and very good — but not nearly enough on my plate. The one thing that that these too many Sonny Bryan’s Smokehouses have kept from the original is their world class, thick cut sweet onion rings. As good as you’ll find anywhere. The bottom line is that barbecue in Dallas seems to have been taken over by the chains(look up barbecue in Dallas on Unilocal) — Sonny Bryan’s Smokehouse, sadly now falls into that category. When Big Daddy’s heirs took over Dreamland in Tuscaloosa and sold franchises, when Arthur Bryant passed and his relatives took over and expanded in Kansas City, as in so many other cases, the results have always the same: a once proud name sullied and the unique quality of ithe founder’s ‘cue sacrificed.
