YUMYUMYUM! The food here is amazing. Omnivores AND vegans love it! We stop here every chance we get. Our favorite dishes: Hot and Sour Soup, Sweet and Sour«chicken,» egg rolls,

I’ve been on this weird Asian Buffet kick lately… today was Veggie Garden’s turn. I thought the food at this tiny restaurant was great. Really didn’t miss the meat ‘cuz the faux meats were very passable. As others noted, the cook takes great pride in his food… and everything tasted fresh. The only thing I didn’t like was the sweet and sour pork… cuz when you deep fry soy products, they tend to get hard/chewy/rubbery. The faux pork in the stir-fry was way better. The staff is very friendly. Unfortunately the restaurant wasn’t very busy. I think they’ve upped their buffet price and that may deter some people. It’s a nice change of pace to try vegan food… you won’t even miss the eggs, dairy, meat.

Service was great and food was great. My best friend from Houston came into town and she is vegan. So we decided to try this restaurant. We were very pleased and it’s one of my new favorite places!

This is a solid Chinese vegetarian restaurant, most of the dishes on the buffet were tasty. They have around 20 items to choose from and the place was packed with people on a Friday evening. It’s probably not the healthiest food in earth even though it’s vegetarian. Think of American Chinese food without the meat. It definitely hit the spot if you are craving Chinese food…

The chef here is amazing. He makes everything so fresh, not overcooked and flavorful, getting every dish as close or better than the original non-vegan dishes, like the Orange Beef. I really like the simple dishes, like Broccoli with Garlic Sauce, because they freshness of the veggies really stands out. Don’t let the large menu overwhelm you because everything you choose will be awesome. Save room for the cinnamon pillows!

My husband and I went here a little over a year ago and were very unimpressed. I feel like this place must have changed hands. I’m glad we gave it another shot, considering there are very few all vegan restaurants in Dallas.

The egg rolls, hot and sour soup, and lemongrass chicken complete my perfect trifecta meal. Seriously the hot and sour soup is the best I’ve ever tasted. I love the Thai tea too. The staff is wonderfully friendly and very accommodating. Everything is very clean and I trust that the food is truly made with vegan love. My mother loves the weekend lunch buffet. Please give Veggie Garden your business!

Went here spur of the moment with my vegan teen to grab a quick dinner before picking up my omnivore son from a nearby class. It’s an unassuming place outside, but we were greeted promptly upon arrival. I was in a time crunch, so I asked if we could be in and out in 30 minutes. The gentleman smiled and said yes. Ordering was easy, because my daughter could select anything on the menu. She ordered a traditional mock chicken sandwich and fries, and I ordered miso soup and potstickers. We both enjoyed our food and were out the door promptly as promised. I will return here again to linger a bit longer. My daughter loves the place.

Nice to go into a restaurant and be able to choose anything on the menu! Atmosphere is ok… prices were a little high… but the food was great!

My overall experience… meh. I used to come here all the time a few years ago when it was owned by a sweet older lady. The place felt very authentic. Now this restaurant has a new owner and it the vibe is very underwhelming. On my first visit under the new ownership, I walked in to a neon green backdrop with poorly painted walls. It didn’t feel inviting, but rather cheesy. I sat down and ordered the regular, and surprise… a long black hair in my food. I didn’t make a big deal, but obviously proper kitchen management wasn’t been practiced. I received a new dish, but still paid for my meal and left. Needless to say, I did not go back. A couple of years later, it so happened that my wife got a couple of $ 5 off coupons for this place. So we said sure, let’s give it another chance. The service was quite good. The waiter was attentive and quick. The food was very sub-par. Very bland and the sauce was watery and thin. Overall tasted just ok. When we went to pay, we asked the waiter to split our check(my wife and I keep separate bank accts) so that we could use our coupons. He said there was no way to split the check, sorry. Ok, fine, we’ll pay one bill. «Oops! I double charged you on one item. I can offer you store credit instead of refunding you because I don’t want to get in trouble.» By this point I had enough. Since I wasn’t planning on returning anymore, I told I’d rather have the funds returned. So he finally did refund me. The dishes are all mock meats and the few vegetables they do have taste like they’re straight out of a can. The flavor isn’t there in their sauces. And it seems like additional training and management is still needed.

This place is phenomenal! Tried this place after going to suma veggie café for a few months. I can safely veggie garden has replaced and one-upped suma in every way possible. My girlfriend is vegan so it’s hard to find a place we both enjoy and a solid selection for her. We’ve found it.

I’ve been to Veggie Garden dozens of time and always been happy. The food tastes like the real deal which is totally amazing! I no longer live in the area but crave Veggie Garden all the time! My favorite dish is the shrimp lo mein hands down with thai tea!

First, let me say the food is OK to pretty good. We usually only eat the buffet on the weekend, so sometimes what we want isn’t there. Our favorites are sesame pork(the sesame chicken from the menu is much better, but it costs them more so they never put it on the buffet), singapore noodles(again, the buffet version is missing the fake shrimp which are very good), chickpea curry, eggplant and tofu, and cinnamon pillows. I went to Veggie Garden almost *every*, *single*, *weekend* for the past who knows how long, and I have the Foursquare checkins and bank statements to prove it. I brought friends there for lunch during the week. And, I will never go there again. Let me tell you why. Joy, the owner, instituted a loyalty card when she took over this restaurant. It was a magnetic stripe card. After a while, she decided to switch over to one that she scans a barcode on a computer instead of swiping the card on a terminal. She warned us though of the impending changeover, and told us when our loyalty points would expire(you spend $ 100 and you get $ 10 on your next visit toward your meal). I was fine with this. I’ve been using the barcode version every time I went. On Sunday(Mar 242013), we went to Veggie Garden like we do almost every Sunday and ate the buffets. When we went to check out, I had the cashier add my loyalty points to my card, and then I asked him to check the balance to see how close I was to the $ 10 reward credit. My balance was equal to the amount he had just added. My points had been wiped out. He called Joy(again, the owner) over to take a look at it, and Joy said she couldn’t figure out what happened, and that she’d had problems with it before. She refused to do anything about my rewards balance. I pulled out my phone and showed her my bank transactions. I could tell when I redeemed my rewards, because the amount was only the tip plus the tax. So I was easily able to show I’d been 4 times after redeeming my rewards last time, plus this Sunday, making 5, almost $ 100 worth of spending between my wife and me. Joy still refused and said there was no way she could go back and see it, even though I was showing her the proof in front of her face. Joy then said that the rewards program is «just a courtesy», so I guess I should have felt super lucky when it used to work. She, in effect, called me a liar. I told her I was disappointed that was the way she wanted to do business. I will not be back. She’s lost a *very* loyal customer and all of the many people I’ve brought to the Veggie Garden as well. I am all in favor of as many vegan restaurants as we can get, but no restaurant is worth patronizing when they screw their customers over and effectively call them liars.

My mom is a vegetarian so I’ve tried a lot of vegetarian and vegan restaurants and dishes. This one is alright. The food isn’t bad, the service is very friendly and it’s kind of a little whole in the wall place. I hear the buffet is a real good deal. I did try some of their specialty drinks and juices and they were quite delicious.

I went for the buffet because I had a doctor’s appointment in Richardson. I’m not vegan or vegatarian, but I am very open to those lifestyles. I just don’t want to embrace them 100% of the time. I’ve been to some incredible Asian style vegan restaurants in CA so I was expecting something on par with them. I went for the lunch buffet. To me all the food was kind of strange. Even the fruit was weird. And the faux meats in the dishes were really hard and chewy. That was my first time there, but it seemed that a lot of people around me really enjoyed their food and they have a lot of regulars. Maybe it’s just me or the Chinese slant on the dishes.

Stumbled upon this restaurant and I was surprised by the bad reviews. I mean, it’s not gourmet, but you’re going to a $ 9 Chinese place, so let’s keep the expectations reasonable folks. We did not get the buffet, did not look all that great. We ordered the sweet and sour soy chicken and one of the specials, I can’t remember the name of it. We also had a Miso Soup to start. Soup was delicious! A pleasant surprise, not watered down at all, and the small was big enough for both of us to enjoy as an appetizer. The soy chicken and soy beef entrees were really good, as good as any other $ 10 and under fast Chinese place. I loved that the sweet and sour dishes come with veggies and chunks of pineapple, rather than just meat plopped on some rice. You honestly probably wouldn’t be able to tell it were soy meat if you didn’t know ahead of time. The texture and taste was great in the meat. The people working there were super nice and attentive. Great little joint. We will be going back.

There are so few vegan restaurants in the Dallas area that I hate to say it but«bye bye Veggie Garden in Richardson». My daughter and son-in-law along with their 8 month old baby had lunch at Veggie Garden recently. When I went to pay, the bill was too high so I questioned the amount. The guy explained that I had been charged $ 1.99 for a kid’s meal. My granddaughter was in her car seat and I had given her a cube of cantalope from my plate to gnaw on. Veggie Garden felt that constituted her eating a kid’s meal. I was shocked and very unhappy. The owner not only did not give my money back, she loudly proclaimed that kids can’t eat free. My granddaughter’s two bottom teeth can’t really handle much more than a small piece of cantalope and she isn’t weaned. I’ve been a patron of Veggie Garden for many years but I won’t go back. I wrote this review on September 15, 2012 and yet it does not appear in the last year’s worth of reviews. I wonder if they have a way of removing bad reviews. Looks like that would be a full time job.

I actually found this place by error while looking for Suma Veggie Café. Since I saw it was vegan I decided to try it. I didn’t want to write this review because I feel bad about giving a vegan place a bad rating, but the truth is that this place needs to improve a great deal, so hopefuly they will after reading this review. I went there with my husband, we were excited to see the different choices, they had some kind of curry tofu, orange chicken and beef with broccoli. We also got some corn patties and eggrolls. The orange chicken was very, ver sweet, kind of like opening a jar of jam and taking a spoonful sweet… The tofu was nothing memorable and the beef was just meh… What disapoints me the most is that my husband found 4 big pieces of black hard plastic on his corn patties, like the type of plastic that you would get as a result of putting a plastic spoon in the blender and then putting it in the food. We have no idea what it was or how it got there. We told the people who worked there and they said: «Oh, I am so sorry» but thet didn’t even offer to discount his food or anything. It was trully gross, we couldn’t eat anything after that, we just paid and left. I am deffinetly NOTEVER coming back.

I’m SO sad to return to review my formerly 5 star mecca as a 1 star bomb. =/I know folks coming here now love the food… but I swear to GODDESS… it used to be like 18 bazillion times better. =/And it BREAKSMYHEART! The place has come under new management… and I know that so many people used to complain about the darkness and the crazy art on the walls… but I LOVED it. Now — the neon-springy green wall with the crazy fluorescent lights makes me almost start seizing. The crazy art was so cool! And the BESTDAMNPART about this restaurant was Jemma — the former owner. You walked in… and she knew your name. She greeted you so warmly and genuinely and would ask about things that you’d told her in passing… and you’d see her two sons helping out occasionally. When Jemma left… the heart and soul of this place went out of the energy of this building as well as the food. Which is what brings me here to review. THEFOODTOOK A DAMNSADNOSEDIVE! Waaaaah! One of my hands down favorite dishes EVER was the Ocean Tofu. I was one of «those» people who’d load up my plate with it when it came out. So, when I went back in to do so… I literally spat it out of my mouth. And if you know me at ALL… I’m a veritable garbage disposal! I don’t spit shit out. It tasted… and I’m so serious about this… cleaning fluid. CLEANINGFLUID! The salad bar used to make me glow with happiness. Now… I avoid it at all cost. The food is… run of the mill vegan fare… And I NEVER… EVER … EEEEEEVER thought I’d say this… EVER…but from now on… Suma gets my business. =/With the grumpiest old owner ever known in a vegan establishment… I’m sad… that the place I once looked into to catering my wedding… is a place I’m going to avoid at all cost.

Chinese food for vegans! Yum! I really like this place. Took my Chinese food loving, meat eating dad here and he liked everything we ordered. The buffet is a great deal, and though it seems small, there is plenty to choose from. I don’t mind the dated décor, but I do wish they would update the menus. They make me feel dirty.
