Me and my mom were in Richmond from out of town, and stopped in here to try to find my grandma a birthday present. I cant say anything about the selection of things they had, since I’ve never been in a Belk store before and dont know what is typical of them, but we did find her some clothes and picture frames. We chose to have her presents gift wrapped, but the woman had other people in line, so we told her she could go ahead and ring up the other customers. While we were waiting we decided to walk around a little bit more, and found ourselves at the perfume counter. While we were looking, an employee(security or management, I’m not sure) came up the area we were in and was watching us, then got on their walkie-talkie and said a code to someone. Next thing we know there’s another employee walking up to us and they asked us what we were doing. We said we were waiting for our purchases to be wrapped and were just looking around. The two employees continued to just stand there and watch us, and then followed us back to the register when we went to get our stuff. Both me and my mom agreed that if we werent running late for the birthday party then we would have gotten a refund and went somewhere else.

This was my first time visiting this booming side of Richmond. I had read Jamie’s review of Belk’s and decided I’d stop. This place is a lot like Kohls, just a bit more expensive and more too end name brands. I only made my way to the women’s section. I bought a few shirts that averaged $ 30 each and a couple of pairs of jeans that were around $ 40 each. I noticed that they have a huge selection for petite women. The confusing part was check out. They don’t have registers at the front like most places. I noticed a customer service area, near the fitting room at the side of the stores. I asked the lady if I could check out there but she didn’t answer and walked away from the counter. Maybe she didn’t hear me, but either way, even the customer service area being out of the way was strange. As I was walking around the front of the store, looking for the check out area, a lady from a cosmetic counter offered to ring up my stuff. On the way out the alarm went off… embarrassing, but I wasn’t mad because the lady at the cosmetic counter probably wasn’t use to removing those pesky tags.

This was my first visit to Belk. I had seen some of the children’s clothes that someon had bought for my great niece and they were adorable. I generally do most of my shopping at Kohls. I think I’m going to like this store just as much as Kohls. They had great sale prices and a nice selection for plus sizzle that didn’t say frumpy big woman. I think a lot of stores think that just because you may not be a size 2 – 10 that you should wear ugly frumpy clothes. I was able to buy things for myself for once. The kids clothes had great prices and selection. The store was clean and organized. I will definitely be back.
