my boyfriend drug me in here, but i was the one who left with a hand full of purchases in hand. love that they not only sell vintage game junk but also local art as well! and i was told that all the proceeds from the prints i purchased went straight back to the artist, so cool!

Been a customer of Bits and Pixels since it was Play N Trade back in 2007. It’s definitely a cool place to get down with some nostalgic gaming. The staff is ultra friendly and courteous and always has been and they even have wish lists so if you’re looking for a game that they don’t have, they’ll call you and tell you it’s in stock the moment it ends up in their hands. The selection isn’t always the best, but the staff are some of the most polite, appreciative and professional I have ever seen in retail. Stop in there if you’re looking for an interesting shop in Carytown.

Meh. Sold us some N64 controllers that didn’t work and wouldn’t allow us to return them because it’d been more than 14 days. 14 days– really?! We used them once, a month after purchasing them. Asked to exchange them and were denied. Never going back.

Excellent selection of vintage games. Great service and they keep their word. Put my name on a wait list for a rare game and they called me months later when one showed up; plus very fair prices.

Tried to give them business. Left message and never returned my call as of today. Any call not returned in a business day says to me that you do not want my business. Sorry Bits and Pixels, Play n Trade, or whatever name that you want to call yourself today, you lost an opportunity to earn my business once again.

DONOTGETYOURSYSTEMSSERVICEDHERE!!! The biggest shame is there’s not a negative number to rate this company with. I am sure the other Play n Trades are much better at customer service and a lot less on the lies. I took my Xbox 360 here on Beginning of January, was told over a month later it was a simple DVD drive error. They then told me the«Tech was deathly sick and couldnt work on it». Come to find its only kidney stones! The repair shop is in this random guys house at that!!! I have been there in person 4 times!!! Called 6 times and still either get no answer or just a pack of lies about some guy named«Bob» thats going to call me back. The women there are clueless to anything going on around them and I still have NOT heard a word or anything from them nor a word on getting my system back. I wish I knew ahead of time this was merely a scam to steal my property and con $ 20.00 out of me as well. I NEVER would have gone here and just preformed the repairs myself. I would honestly not be surprised if my console is or has been sold for a profit after the lies of its repair. I am contacting the BBB and possibly the Richmond police in reference to this matter.

Let me just start off by saying that I own an Atari Jaguar. I needed AV cords to hook it up, and you have to buy ones specifically made for this system. On ebay they go for $ 20-$ 40. It is a relatively rare system, so walking into a store I don’t expect a whole lot. I went to another video game store first, and when I asked about it, they had never even heard of the system. When I walked into Play-n-Trade, they were immediately interested in helping me! I love going into a niche store where they geek out with you. Bob(the owner?), overheard my conversation with one of the store clerks and immediately jumped in. He said he couldn’t order one, but he knew of a guy in Richmond who deals with all sorts of Atari systems. I provided my telephone number and left the store. About an hour later, I got a call from Bob saying he had found the part and that the Atari guy would sell it for $ 10. I went in the next day and picked it up, easy peasy. It was an awesome experience. I’m in a quandary now though because my flat screen does not have an RCA input! Doh!

Great store, great vibe, great customer service. I definitely recommend it to anyone wanting nostalgic games and consoles in their life as well as some new stuff. All of the merchandise is priced great and looks/functions like brand new.

Really wanted to like this place. Cool accessories, great vintage selection, and it’s not GameStop. But I’ve only been disappointed here. Got my PS3, they’re out of Metal Gear Solid 4. Came in to get Battlefield 3 on launch day, they didn’t get their shipment in. Bought a Logitech driving wheel, got it home and discovered it was missing a crucial power adaptor. Just wish their modern gaming stuff matched the quality of the vintage. I feel like they want me to shop at GameStop, which is the most depressing thing ever. If retro gaming is your thing, definitely check this spot out. If you’re a current-gen console gamer, you might be disheartened.

This is a really great Play N Trade. Just because it’s a chain doesn’t mean this store isn’t engaged with the local shopping scene. In fact, the owner is the current president of the Carytown Merchants Association. Pretty cool. The neat thing about Play N Trade is the«try before you buy» option. Whether new or used, you can try a game before buying it. The staff is very knowledgable. I bought a Wii there and they were really helpful about suggesting items that would make using the system easier. It wasn’t upselling, just honest«this is what you need to get started» explanations. They’ve got plenty of games, new and used. I’d definitely return.

The folks who work at this Play N Trade franchise keep things real. REALLYREAL. In all seriousness, I’m glad I come here because it reminds me of my favorite independent video game store back in Massachusetts. PNT in Carytown does occasional tournaments, cuts sweet deals for customers who have their interests piqued and keep old classics up front in glass cases. Want to see anything inside? Sure! Just ask and they’re more than willing to help. I got Mortal Kombat I, II and III for Genesis at a bargain price only because I had asked if they had II. Got discounts on old NES games for purchasing multiples. All in all, quite awesome with a good selection and helpful employees! I can’t wait for the next tournament.
