Didn’t know they closed. Planned on stopping by tonight to grab a pie. Now I’m bummed. They had amazing pizza.

I tried to come here Monday 9/28, but DiCarlo’s is now closed. I will miss the owner, staff, and extreme attention to detail in the crust. You could really see the passion the owner had in the obsession he had with the crust. This was not a pizza on a conveyor belt … this was checking and re-checking to ensure consistent quality. I’m really at a loss … do I really want to drive to PA for my fix? With a heavy heart, goodbye.

Simply put, this is the best cheap pizza in Richmond. The crust is crispy, but fluffy; the sauce is tangy, and the cheese is slightly sweet. I tried a half traditional(melted cheese) and half cold cheese topping, and both were great. I think the cold cheese topping was actually better because baking the cheese didnt take out the flavors. It’s kind of weird but is really unique and delicious. It’s not the fanciest pizza, but it tastes awesome and if you’re looking for cheap pizza, the buck stops here.

I’ve eaten at DiCarlo’s Original Pizza a few times for lunch. I usually order a 6 cut original style pepperoni pizza. Original style means everything is baked but cheese/toppings. Once the sauce and crust is cooked, pepperoni and cheese is placed on top. Customers can get their pizza baked the traditional way as well. I prefer my cheese and toppings added last. The cold cheese/pepperoni blends well with DiCarlo’s baked crust and sauce(tasty). Service is usually friendly and attentive. The restaurant is small with some tables and a bar area. DiCarlo’s is easy to miss, so be sure to use your navigation if you don’t know VCU by Broad St. Parking can be a hassle at times(street). DiCarlo’s Original Pizza is a good choice for pizza in the VCU area.

This pizza is straight up nasty and WAYYYYY overpriced. It tastes like three-day old garbage. All of the previous reviewers do not know what good pizza is and dare I say were paid(with free, gross as hell pizza) to post a positive review? Where to begin. Looked like I got 6 different slices from 6 different pies that were anywhere from a few hours old to a few days old. I also tried a calzone with no pepperoni mind you that was dripping grease, had no ricotta, barely any mozzarella, and was half the size of a respectable calzone that costs that much. It also tasted as if it was doused in fake Italian herbs, the kind they use in those freezer-section Italian bread sticks and garlic bread… utterly disgusting. Needless to say, NEVERAGAIN. And I guarantee that more than just a handful of people reviewing here were most likely tuned up and eating it because they had the munchies/drunk-face and would eat anything that looked remotely like food. Strong words for a seriously awful experience. The décor is nice, but the place is super small.

This pizza is seriously good. The crust is crispy, the sauce is spicy and abundant, and the cheese gooey. You can pig out on this pie and not feel gross afterward. Happy hour beer special is awesome too. One star down because the vegetable topping options are limited. Recommended.

Really impressed with the crust. It really has great flavor and texture… just a great piece of pizza. I love the unique style of having the ingredients put on after the crust bakes. Just a good experience in every way.

This place is great! The pizza is different but in a really refreshingly good way. The crust is so crispy and amazing. The sauce is so fresh. This is not your typical greasy super cheesy goodness, this is really fresh pizza with a unique twist. They add the cheese after the pizza is cooked, and the result is amazing! I had 4 pieces and got pretty full, but not that gross«I just ate too much» kind of full especially if that particular pizza is really greasy. It’s very satisfying and I highly recommend this place!!!

This is a really different style of pizza. If you are a big fan of a thin crust, NY style pizza, this may not be for you. The closest I would liken the crust to is the Pizza Hut pan pizza but better. The sauce has a very bright, fresh flavor. I got a 6 cut pizza with mushrooms. I did not opt for the«post bake cheese» but asked that they bake it with the cheese. Got a tip from a customer at the bar to try the pepperoni rolls. 4 to an order with a side of ranch or marinara. They were AWESOME! Definitely give them a try. I’m giving them 4 stars bc I really liked it but thought the cheese could be better. However, like I said, if you prefer NY style, DiCarlos probably isn’t for you.

I’ve LOVED DiCarlo’s pizza since I was a kid growing up in WV. Now it’s in RVA, and I’m even happier b/c it’s as good as ever. Square slices. Thin crust. Great sauce, but not too much. Pepperoni, need I say more? Delicious blend of cheeses. And that crunchy crust. Yum! Had a 16 cut last night — finished at home. I’m telling ALL of my family and friends to check out a great place, with good folks and fantastic pizza!

Just like the original in the Ohio valley. I’m so glad DiCarlo’s is in Richmond. When I’m homesick, I just need to make a trip downtown. There is no other pizza out there like this pizza. Give it a try, you will not be disappointed

No other pizza like this in richmond! The sauce is made to perfection and they have a ton of toppings to choose from! They also have the best service there, it’s more of a welcoming family feel.

I was in town this past weekend for a conference; felt like having a couple beers and some pizza and decided to check this place out. SO glad I did. The pizza is really good – the crust is tasty as is the sauce, and while I was skeptical about the«original»(i.e., the cheese being added AFTER the pizza is baked) I gave it a try and it is, indeed, delicious. I had sausage & mushroom; six«cuts»(square pieces which are smaller than regular slices) was a nice little meal. I would also add that they have a nice little selection of good beers at a very reasonable price. The owner was very nice and made time to talk – it was slow, given that VCU was on Spring Break and the weather wasn’t great. That said, once word gets out their business should pick up. I visit Richmond somewhat regularly, and will certainly make a point to drop by whenever I’m in town. I am a fan!

I LOVE this pizza. The crust is so crispy and the cheese is sprinkled on at the end so it isnt all the way melted. I know… Sounds strange, but seriously– don’t knock it till you try it. It’s amazing. It’s a real treat to have dicarlos in the Richmond area. If you haven’t already, you MUST try it.

I’m so glad DiCarlo’s is in RVA! The original cold topping pizza is what makes them the best pizza around. The crispy crust with provolone is something all Richmonders will get behind with time. I look forward to many more visits!

Went here with a group of friends for dinner and it was great! We split a couple of pizzas, original style. The crispy crust and delicious crumbly cheese are what make this pizza so good and unique. My fave was the sausage and peppers topping on the original pizza. Will definitely be going back!

Original pepperoni is the way to go! The audible CRUNCH of the crust is to die for. Love the crumbled cheese blend and craft beer. Perfect blend. Looking forward to coming back. Excellent staff and prices are very affordable!

This is really a great quality pizza. Best you can get on campus. Also they have beer for a decent price.
