Diversity Thrift

I’ve been shopping at this thrift store for quite a few years and have found great odds and ends. There have been times I’ve found an item without price sticker and the cashier gave me a good deal. However, I found out that the items are marked with a price the employee/​volunteer would pay for it. So if there isn’t a tag, the employee/​volunteer could put ANYthing. I’ve personally seen three or more of the same or similar items with different price tags. There’s a set standard for a few things like sheets and clothes but everything else is a free-​for-​all.
This is not going to deter me at all! I am definitely going to keep shopping there, just with more price point awareness.

Volunteering here was so easy and non stressful. They were more than willing to work with my hours. Everyone who works there is amazing. They have a huge selection of everything and more things come out all day. Be on the lookout for designer clothes you will be shocked what you can find. Love you Cuties.

This is one of my favorite thrift store hands down that I’ve been to in Virginia and I’ve been to many around the Northern Virginia/​Central Virginia Area. Since I am a lady and all, I can’t say much about the men’s selection, but the women’s shoe selection is FANTASTICASTICALLY AWESOMEDASCIOUS because it’s awesome and cheap. I found a couple of pairs of boots and shoes and it all came to around 15 bucks. I think they have a 3 pairs for 9 dollar deal going on… A lot of thrift stores in Northern Virginia price each shoe between 10 – 30, so it’s pretty much an amazing deal.
TIP: One thing about thrift stores you have to remember to look around. This isn’t a consignment store where they hand pick items that they find special, you cut the cost of them doing it and find those special items yourself. DON’T BE LAZY! I found an amazing floral tube top dress that I swear I get more compliments on than any of my other clothes and I spent maybe 5 bucks on it. Have fun, make a day of it, and make your friends jealous because your stuff is cuter and didn’t cost a car payment.
BTW, the staff is extremely nice and who doesn’t love a giant rainbow colored building.

This is probably the largest thrift store in the city of Richmond and it’s located right off of the I-​95 for easy access. The parking lot is a little on the smaller side but there is plenty of street parking as well. You can find all sorts of things and all for very reasonable prices as you would expect at a thrift store.
Every category had it’s own place/​location so it made finding certain items easier but if you don’t really have anything you’re looking for it may a little overwhelming. There’s a pretty large selection of furniture such as: sofas, recliners, dining tables/​set/​chairs, desks, dressers, and sometimes you may be able to find a bed set. There’s also a small room for outdoor gear and I spotted: golf clubs, skis, miscellaneous front yard toys/​activities, roller blades and bikes. The condition of many of the items also varies based on the condition it was donated so it can really be a hit or a miss with any item you purchase from here. But I did notice that there is a 30 day money back guarantee for electronics ONLY if it ends up not working or you just want to return it.
They also have a selection of mens/​womens clothing and accessories. Diversity Thrift also sells books, record albums, CDs, DVDs and video tapes. I think this is a great place to check out if you’re trying to find something «vintage» or hard to find items that most modern stores don’t carry anymore. Diversity is also a huge support of the Gay Community Center of Richmond. It’s fun just to come here and browse and see if you can find something unique and take home with you.

Diversity Thrift: An oasis for the experienced thrifter, a nightmare for the casual shopper.
Last weekend I fell into the «casual shopper» category and was quite frankly overwhelmed by Diversity Thrift. I love how every item category has it’s own room, but the problem started for me when I went into each room. There was just way too much stuff to sort through for my style, especially in the women’s clothing section. It would have taken me all day to find something that I liked. I realize that that comes with the territory when thrift shopping, however the dust and general smell of the building do not. Those two things were a big hindrance to my overall experience and my allergies.
I originally went to Diversity Thrift to look for a piece of furniture. I have to say that I was pretty impressed with their selection. This would be a wonderful place to buy a couch for an apartment or an office desk. Unfortunately, I didn’t find the piece that I was looking for, but I will definitely go back there in the future.
For the experienced thrifter I wholeheartedly recommend shopping here. It seems like it would be a dream for those who love to dig and search for that next cool item to take residence in their closet or living room. However, for the casual shopper like myself, I’m warning you to proceed with caution (and an open mind)!

This is a great place to find DVDs and great color coded deals. I like that got can find abandoned frames and some pretty nifty furniture. They have areas for furniture, books, clothes, music, the list goes on and on. You never know what you’ll find!

I needed to buy a chair for my craft space and knew this place sold more furniture than anything. This was my second time going here. While there are several rooms filled to capacity my disappointment was that there was dust and spiderwebs on so many of the things in there. It felt dirty and I wished they cared for it more. I bought a chair for a quarter when it was listed for $ 20. It was a great deal and I can refurbish it. The store wasn’t well lit. Luckily I went with my best friend because there wasn’t anyone to help us bring the chair up front. Next time I’ll be browsing elsewhere.

Not the classiest shop in town, but the inventory is amazing. And the prices are too. I’ve even shown up and found that the entire stock of clothes is on sale for $ 1. Give yourself some time to dig, and you’re sure to find a deal. This is more a place to look for casual wear, not cocktail dresses. And bring your boyfriend along — they have a lot of guys stuff too!

Definitely a fan of this place. I hate that they’re closed on Monday and Tuesday, but it happens. I’ve found quite a few good things here: books, a full length mirror, a cute picture frame, DVDs, etc. They always have plenty of nice furniture pieces as well.

I enjoy going to any thrift store so they are all good. But this store was very cluttered and some merchandise seemed to be in very poor condition. I found nothing to buy which is rare for me. If I’m in the Richmond area again, I’ll check it out. Maybe today was an off day. There is a poster in the store stating that it is a Richmond favorite.

What a great place! It’s like the labyrinth, but full of way cooler stuff.

Richmond has plenty of impressive antique stores, but very few quality thrift shops. Diversity Thrift is the exception, with an inventory large enough to find your $ 1 diamond in the rough, a degree of organization that facilitates rather than hinders your quest for hidden treasure, and overall quality of items at ROCK BOTTOM prices that makes the hunt fun. Plus, at the end of the day, you’re supporting a great cause.

There are about 7 rooms here. One for men’s clothes, One for women’s clothes, One for linens, two for Books with records in one of them. The largest room has furniture. The furniture room is the largest they have period pieces and 40, 50, & up for furniture.
There is the check out room that had dvds, vhs’, & jewelry at the counter.
They aren’t overwhelmed with vintage, They have vintage and current pieces, more current pieces than not. They have prices in dresses at 5.25 and over. The shirts and cardigans are 3.25 & 2.25. They have sales on particular colored price tags. There are about 6 different colored tags.
The men’s clothes aren’t much different. Not a lot of vintage and far too many t shirts.
They have a couple of wedding dresses too.
It’s worth a checking out if it’s your first time, If you become a regular that’s awesome.. but I may just stick to my salvation army, The prices are better on half priced Wednesdays.

I had three options for getting rid of my good quality electronics, clothes and shoes. I could have sold them on Craigslist, given them to Goodwill or Diversity Thrift. As someone who is supportive of the LGBT cause, I decided to donate them to Diversity Thrift. When I arrived at the store, there was no one to help me carry the five large boxes, when I asked, they just told me to put them inside the building. There was neither a word of thanks nor receipt for my donations.
It was extremely disappointing. I won’t be donating to Diversity Thrift in the future.

Diversity is an excellent place for vintage furniture! The prices are a bit high, but if you are lucky enough to find an item without a price on it, you may be able to land yourself a steal. I wonder if you could negotiate tagged items. Anyhow, tons of beautiful furniture, a good bit of it in pretty good condition. You will find lots of lovely gems for reupholstery.
There is also a great selection of throw pillows and linens. It’s great if you are making a pillow because for just $ 2, you can just buy a pillow from here to cover instead of buying a pricey form. Even the massive sofa pillows are dirt cheap.
Lots of selection in clothing, although not the best in the area, but it also wasn’t what I came for, so I didn’t search for long. You will find tons and tons of selection of just about anything your hear desires here. The trip is certainly worth your while.
The workers and volunteers are very helpful and friendly, and pickup service is highly efficient. They work like a well-​oiled machine. I strongly suggest coming with a truck because you’re bound to catch a nice find in furniture.

Diverse threads, spreads and treads at this thoroughbred thrift.
As an avid thrifter, I consider Diversity to be as spontaneous and diverse as it gets. There are tons of random items to consider as you saunter through the selections, sifting ‘diamonds’ out of the dirt. Most of my kooky coffee cups were found here, as well as my mason jars and 6-​paneled Japanese room divider (they took my best offer). I don’t really know what to look for when I go because it is inconsistent with its jems.
The furniture offers a wide variety items at hit or miss pricing. Some things are terribly over-​priced, like a cabinet that a dog chewed on, while an exceptional trunk or shelf might get unnoticed and find its way into my house (I win). The clothing can be very sparse (for men) and the library leaves you looking at ‘how to’ books, but it changes daily. Best of all, every dime you spend you give to a community that could use your support –everyone wins!
It would do you good to forget Goodwill — will you already?

You can see it from 95! Be sure to stop in if you are looking for furniture or any new item for your next DIY project. Great finds… although not the hot spot for clothing as it is furniture or other household items. This place is great and does have good parking. Like a huge Goodwill store, you just have to dig to find the «diamond in the rough» you were looking for.

They have really good deals. Not only that, but they have specials for each month. They have a color coded system to ensure each item gets reduced occasionally.
They have an amazing selection of books, probably the biggest I have ever seen in a thrift store. Their kitchen selection is great.
My favorite part about this place is just knowing that all of the proceeds go to such a worthy cause. (I lied, I actually have more than one favorite thing about this place) The second thing I love is that the employees will schedule a free furniture pick up. They will come to your place, at your convenience and get rid of some older/​unused furniture. They are very friendly and very professional about it also.
