El Pollo Loco

This particular chain went from okay to really bad. The chicken pieces they served to begin with were pretty modest and now they’re downright tiny. Tonight’s meal marks the end of my patronage. And what a pity because I love the flavors of their rotisseries. The one in Gilroy sets the bar for the quality of food its customers deserve.

I wouldnt really call this place fast food, because it takes longer then most taquerias.
You can see them slowly grilling the pollo (chicken :-p), and its all made fresh to order. Salsas are freshly made and the place is clean.
The last 2 times i came by someone was always cleaning up. First time took about 10 minutes, last time took 20 mins! :(
I cant knock em cause some dude ordered 80 bucks of food in front of me (really?)
But the 4 piece combo is pretty yummy and the side orders are super fresh and hot.
Also got the grilled buritto and it was super healthy and not greasy.

i really try to avoid fast food as much as possible, but it didn’t make me feel disgusted after eating their bean and cheese burrito, which was tiny…

The food was alright it had pretty good flavor. Not authentic Mexican food tho…

This is my family’s go to place for a semi healthy fast food meal. I personally love the chicken tostada salad. My husband always gets the shrimp bowl, and my baby girl can usually make two meals out of the mini chicken bowl.
The chicken is always hot, flavorful, and delicious. The skin is crispy and the charbroiled flavor really comes through. The veg in the salad is always fresh including the avo. There is lettuce, tomato, avo, beans, rice, and a health portion of chicken. They usually put sour cream in it but honestly I don’t think you need it. I also like the citrus dressing and a tiny bit of the cilantro dressing as well. The one thing is that they do charge .40 for the extra dressing. I am usually fine with paying it since it’s a huge portion and my husband likes it on his shrimp too. This salad is $ 8.99.
The shrimps bowl is delicious as well. The shrimp are grilled and in general have a nice flavor. They don’t seem weird for fast food shrimp. The bowl has rice and beans with the shrimp scattered on top. We usually double up the shrimp for him to really feel satisfied and that’s usually not a problem. Not sure what the cost for the double shrimp totals to but the bowl itself is $ 8.99.
The mini chicken bowl is such a great deal. My little one is two and a half and is going through a very picky eating stage. However when we have crazy chicken she can sometimes eat the entire bowl of food. I will let her too if it isn’t too late. The bowl has rice and pinto beans and a good portion of chopped chicken. She loves eating the chicken and a side tortilla.
In closing, crazy chicken is one of our lazy night go to dinner joints. They are fast and the food is decent. The location is always busy but you don’t wait long for your food. The drive thru can be slow and busy but many times very convenient with a two year old. The employees are generally pretty nice, but there is this one lady that was on her break and kept staring at us while we ate. It was very strange and uncomfortable. We were very close to telling her she was making us feel weird but I think my hubby ‘s dirty look may have scared her away.

I have have coming here for a couple of years, sometimes I asked for salsa and when got home no salsa in bag. But today I asked for it again and for my surprise I got more than what I asked for, even a band-​aid in my green salsa, not going there any more.

Because it was raining i counld not take my baby out i ask for xtra salsa and i not even got one they charge me for a churro And wasent on the bag

The flavor that the chicken has is splendid! I like this restaurant, I go all the time therefor I would recommend it! Specially for when you have a party

I definitely think that Pollo Loco has improved their taste and their service. I hadn’t been to a pollo loco in a very long time. Maybe 5 or more years. I have started to go back again and it is much better. I specially like the chipotle burrito.
Pollo loco’s chicken is cooked right there and then and it is very juicy. I think it has to among the healthier fast food choices that there are.
But then again, fast food is fast food, right?

Me and my family came through the drive thru ordered one 16 piece and one 10 piece family size with a couple of sides. When My sister-​in-​law asked the drive thru guy (Juan) for salsa at least a good size container because in my family there are 15 people total so we need a lot of salsa with our meal. He hesitated to give us a cup. after he gave us the first cup we asked for another one then he said he was not allowed to give us another. If it is an open salsa bar and you can get as many as you want I don’t understand why if we ordered such a big order it was an issue to give us paying customers what we need to enjoy our meal. If this certain location closes at 11 and by 9pm two hours before close they run out of chicken and wings wouldn’t it make more sense to have enough until closing. Didn’t not appreciate this experience at this locations and will not be returning.

I frequent this place a lot for their chicken tortilla soup. I absolutely love the fresh tasting flame broiled chicken. My service is now better that the mean chubby girl isn’t working the window.

When I want Mexican food and fast… THIS IS THE PLACE! I love their food and will continue to come.

I got the chicken nachos thry didnt have the queso sauce rhat used the other shreded cheese not the same i miss the old queso sauce!!! Chicken was good despite these dry nachos

Tasty chicken reasonably priced… one thing I noticed that hopefully they will stop, is they’re cleaning the condiment salsa area with ordinary windex type glass cleaner and they’re spraying hitting the salsa and condiments. I love their chicken it’s one of a kind. But I hope the cleaner ladies will stop this cleaning practice. They could just spray directly to the paper towels not on the glass near the food/​salsas.

I love El Pollo Loco — it’s my favorite fast food place cause it’s tasty and seems mildly healthy. Even though this location is a bit of a trek, I still drive up at least once a month to get my chicken. This location is particularly nice. It’s always well staffed and kept clean. It can get pretty busy at peak meal times, so be warned that you might end up waiting a bit. But for me, it’s totally worth the drive and the wait.

The customer service was great they spoke to us by name although i think they read the name on da credit card but it was still cool. There avocado burritos are amazing although they did not have the green salsa today.

Great food. Great service and Katherine is the best! Katherine has excellent customer service skills and has full control of the restaurant. Makes it a super nice place to eat. Keep up the good work, it does not go unnoticed by my wife and myself. We eat here 3 – 4 times a week. Always excellent quality food. 5 stars.

Great service, good tasteful food and much cleaner than the one in southern California

It’s funny that a chicken restaurant never fails to consistently disappoint with their trademark grilled chicken, but pleasantly surprise with their salad sides.
The grilled chicken has always been dried out and feels like it’s been reheated or has been hanging out in the ‘hot spots’ way too long.
Their al cabron (chicken) tacos are pretty decent — it’s diced grilled chicken with chopped onions and cilantro. The jalapeño sauce goes quite some ways in spicing up the tacos while their green salsa from the salsa table makes it sublime. They should either patent that green salsa, or teach the taco trucks how to make ‘em. I think that’s the best salsa (not really salsa verde) I’ve had in quite a while. I think it might be a ‘cilantro salsa’.
Their cilantro dressing on the taco salad is what makes their salad. It’s very flavourful, and highly unexpected. It’s not a whole lot, but is enough to coat all the greens if one mixes them well enough.
Anywho, that’s way too much effort on reviewing a chain outlet. And that, is «El Pollo Loco» for you.
