I hired Mr. Erickson to install molding in my home, 2 small areas, an 11×11 foot room and 13×4 foot hall. Based on reviews from another site(which i no longer believe) and meeting Mr. Erickson for the estimate I hired him to install one member, pre-primed crown molding. He presented himself as someone who knew how to do the job even after I pointed out to him that one wall had a slight curve to it and another wall had odd angles. On the day of the job he showed up in a car with his helper, not a van or pick-up as every workman I have ever hired has done. He arrived with the basics to do the job and nothing more. He took $ 125 from me to go to a local hardware to buy the molding which somehow he got into his car. To give you an idea of how poorly the job went, 2 ½ hours later only half a piece of molding was up. The small room took 7 hours to finish with one corner alone taking the entire 7 hours to get right as they cut and re-cut and put a piece up, ripped it down, put more up and tried over and over to get right. SEVENHOURSONONECORNER ! They were here 9 ½ hours total and to their ONLY credit never took a break because even they realized it was all taking too long. Taking too long because they clearly have only the most basic knowledge of molding installation. Even when they thought they were done they had left two glaring mistakes(one on spacing the molding at a doorway the other where Mr. Erickson hacked away at the molding around my attic door leaving a jagged edge) of which only 1 was fixed. the job cost me a total of $ 350 and wasn’t worth one penny of it .In the daylight today as i went to paint(i had agreed i would paint) I found just how poorly it had been installed with nails not sunk, sloppy caulking and really bad and obvious joints. The 13 foot side of the hall is made of 3 separate pieces of molding joined when 2 should have done it. I had to sink many nails myself, sand all the rough spots and them putty holes and dents they had left. In contrast i would like to add that 2 years ago I had another man whose specialty is just molding do 6 rooms for me with the same molding. He was in my home 4 ½ hours, his job was excellent and all i had to do was slap on a coat of paint. He was suppose to do this job when i had another large room to do but didn’t want to take on this job when i decided to not do the 3rd room. Instead I hired Mr. Erickson and I regret it. He certainly seems like a nice man, BUT I believe he needed the money and took on a job that was WAY over his head. I have my receipt and I have pictures to back up everything I have written here. I only wish I’d read some honest reviews of his work before I hired him.
