Libby Hill Park

A park to visit when you’re feeling happy, sad, thoughtful… etc. This is my childhood park, along with my friends that «use to» live in this neighborhood. Either way you view it’s history… the views are fantastic. Now the «exercise steps» are tortuous, but the rewards are great. The renovated homes are awesome. I absolutely this park!

So nice walking here from my house and watching the sunset. There’s a paved walkway and seats right by the hill so you can get a great view without lounging in grass (in case that’s not your thing).
There’s a wonderful statue here as well that’s worth a looksy.
Come here at sunset one day. It’ll be worth your while.

This is a fun neighborhood park. You see all sorts of people here, often doing interesting things. It is small, and doesn’t have a playground or anything, so people make their own entertainment. There is a nice little fountain, a historical statue, and a famous view over the river. My favorite spot in my favorite neighborhood. Relaxed and low — key.

Awesome scenery! I love running the stairs for a workout. Sometimes the grass grows a little too wild but its all a part of nature. Love it!

Libby Hill Park has beautiful views of Downtown Richmond especially during sunrise or sunset .Part of the park has nice views of the James River as well. I’ve taken some amazing photos of the city from Libby Hill Park. The best views in my opinion are during Christmas time because all of the buildings downtown has lights. Besides the beautiful views, Libby Hill Park has a statue and water fountain. I live close by the park, so I usually jog through Libby Hill in the morning. I usually see people jogging, walking their dog, or taking pictures. Libby Hill Park is a popular tourist attraction for visitors touring Shokoe Slip. I walk to the park but there’s plenty of parking for visitors. If you’re looking for a great view of Downtown Richmond, Libby Hill Park is a good choice.

Aside from the view I get from my rooftop deck, Libby Hill Park has the best view of the city. It is an easy drive or hike up the side of the hill (you do not have to drive up the side of the hill just for clarification). There are cute fountains here and they have smaller trickles of water which I feel adds to the already abundant ambiance. Gorgeous flowers (none of which I know by name) are beautiful when in bloom in the spring/​summer.
This is also where Richmond got its name! There is a plaque in the spot where you can see the curve in the James River which reminded settlers of Richmond on Thames in England. Once they saw the resemblance it was decided that the name would be Richmond. So you’re standing where the founding fathers of this little town stood, looking over the river to the east and the city to the west… what’s not to love? A must see while in RVA.

One of my favorite places in the world. My great grand father lived in the house on the corner.1libby hill rd. George w. Libby, he was clerk for Libby and son, ship chandlers and grocers, Cary st. Richmond before the civil war. He was a member of co. G, 12^th Va. Inf. sgt & 1^st Va. Inf., 1861. Member of obey battery. The building was used as Libby prison.

One of my favorite parks in the downtown area, Libby Hill Park literally has one of the best skyline views of RVA. Nestled just past the heart of the city, it is one of the most relaxing spots to visit. Beautiful sunsets, great view of fireworks for Rockett’s Red Glare (Memorial Day) and is dog-​friendly, you are bound to find one of the many reasons to visit this spot. Oh, yes, and If you are looking for a great first-​date spot, come here as well, there is a very beautiful fountain that is very calming to sit near as well.

Libby Hill Park gets 5 jumbo stars in my book! Located right down the street from my house, you can’t beat a better view in the whole city. Overlooking the James River and Rockett’s Landing on one side, and down Main Street into downtown on another. Gorgeous sunset views and perfect location for engagement photos. Great parking and dog-​friendly. Highly recommended to those who are new to the area!

This is an awesome park, it’s definitely on my list of places to take out-​of-​towners… it’s got one of the best views of the city, and it’s surrounded by gorgeous tall old houses and historic charm.
The park itself is on the top and side of a hill… if you go to the bottom of the hill you end up on Main Street down a bit from Millies and close to Poe’s Pub. It’s got one or two fountains and some benches, and on a sunny Sunday afternoon it’s usually filled with families and dogs and picnics. It’s also got a park house so if you get too hot, you can hang out on it’s porch and cool down… but the real attraction (other than the view, which is a great date spot– I’ve seen more than one couple romantically strolling through this park at twilight) is the monument– its a replica of the Statue of Liberty, and it was put up in the late 1800s in remembrance of the Confederate soldiers.
Also, if you head down to the end of Libby Terrace, you can look out over a hill (31^st street curve around below) and it’s pretty cool because to the left you can see where a giant sinkhole used to be (go to 31^st and E. Grace to get a closer look)… there’s actually a locomotive buried underground near there, and a portion of the tunnel it’s buried in collapsed during Hurricane Gaston, resulting in an enormous sinkhole. One of the great things about living in Church Hill are the parks. Libby Hill is my favorite… the views of the city are incredible. I love being able to walk my dog through the park and look at all the fab Italianate and Greek Revival mansions that once belonged to the glitterati of 19^th century Richmond society. It’s like time travel, imagining Patrick Henry walking on these same streets over 300 years ago. I always go to the annual neighborhood yard sale here and pick up «treasures» for my old house.
When I lived in D.C., I lived on the Hill so when I first moved to Richmond, the similarities of Church Hill called to me. I loved the architecture, the history, and the mix of residents. My biggest nightmare would be to live in the burgs with wall-​to-​wall carpeting and color-​coordinated appliances. Church Hill is a melting pot: gay, straight, arty, old families who’ve been here for generations. I wouldn’t have it any other way, and hey, I can still say I live on the Hill.
