Once Upon A Vine

We have a collection of wine bottles from each state we have visited, and we needed wine from Virginia. As we were driving north towards Richmond yesterday, I researched stores where we could buy wine. This store was conveniently located near I-​95 and Rt. 301, which is why we chose to stop here. Bob and the rest of the staff were incredibly helpful. I asked if the wine boxes were for sale expecting him to say no like all other wine/​liquor stores we visit, but he said yes. What a pleasant surprise, and the better surprise was that the wine boxes were only $ 5! We felt like we scored big by visiting this store. Thank you Bob and the staff for being so helpful! If we’re ever in the area again, we definitely stop.

The gentleman at the counter was SO nice. He went above and beyond in terms of customer satisfaction. He treated me like I was his friend who came into the store — not some random customer. I will definitely be back.

Once Upon a Vine (clever name) offers a great selection of wine and beer in a residential area of Richmond off of Patterson. There are many local VA wines and lots of varietals from all over the world. The beer is in the refrigerated section or on the right side with all of the glassware. We were looking for some beers that we can’t get in North Carolina and Once Upon a Vine always has what we are looking for. The staff is really helpful and the prices are reasonable. We also saw a food truck outside on a Sunday evening so it looks like you can also grab a bite to eat. This bottle shop has a bit more than the traditional selection at the grocery store and it is a great place for local brews.

Best beer store in Richmond, and it’s in walking distance of our house! What could possibly go wrong? Friendly, helpful staff. It’s one of the social hubs of the neighborhood, especially with the Friday night beer and wine tastings and the warm weather Friday night movies. Also, a great selection of wine and gourmet foods. (And Billy Bread, if you can catch it before it seeks out!)

Excellent beer and wine store in North side Richmond. He also has some cigars, but come for the beer/​wine. Good selection of local and imported beers. There’s plenty of mix and match singles as well as cold 6 packs. He’ll do custom orders if they don’t have something you’re looking for. Friendly and helpful!

Really good variety of beers and wines!

Being from NC, I always try to find different beers to bring home. Usually Whole Foods does the trick, but thought I’d check out a bottle shop. This one has a pretty decent selection but is a tad expensive. I was SO surprised to find a six pack from Cigar City! I’ll definitely stop in next time I’m in town.

A very nice selection of wine and unique beer. We were there recently again. The employees are soooo friendly. These folks and even more helpful. I promise they’ll attempt to assist you in any way. They have a small delicious section of soft drinks. No high corn fructose ! A must stop for shopping!

Richmond is a relatively small city, so as I would expect the actual number of beers they have is small to medium. BUT they have a great selection, showcasing the local breweries and even from those out West. They definitely have a great taste for beer. I mean, they carry some brews that you can’t get out West.
The staff as a whole is made up of some of the nicest people. I got so much stuff, mainly for my buddy, that they hooked me up all sorts of boxes and packing material so that the goods don’t get damaged when I bring them over to his place.
They even have weekly breweries come in for a tasting, I think, weekly on Fridays.

Yummy liquide treats. Dont bother buying the red neck class as you can make your own red neck glass buy going to a craft store for a few bucks.

Once Upon a Vine is truly a neighborhood assest. The selection of beer and wine is unparalleled in Richmond, if not all of Central Virginia. The staff are super friendly and the owner, Bob, is a delightful resource for novice and experienced wine drinkers alike. It is great little businesses like Once Upon a Vine that help give a neighborhood character and charm. If you’re in Bellevue on a Friday, bring a lawn chair and enjoy a movie outside and tastings inside.

Beautifully stocked selection of wine and beers featuring several Virginia gems, including one particularly gorgeous bottle which has won a slew of awards and is usually impossible to purchase except at the vineyard. Bob, the affable and knowledgeable owner, slowly formed a personal relationship with the vineyard’s owner (a story he told me in the parking lot one blistering evening), and eventually a case appeared behind the counter. The selections are unconventionally organized and the store may be cramped in places, but I will make all wine purchases here.

I give Once Upon 4 instead of 5 stars because 1) the window coating on the glass bothers me and, 2) I sometimes get very lost and frustrated looking for a specific beer in the sea of selections.

Previous reviewers were right on target. this place is amazing whether your poison be hop or grape!
Between the service and selection, I wouldn’t go anywhere else if I lived closer by.

I’m from California, so of course, we have BevMos spread out one every 10 miles or so. Places like this are non-​existent.
Naturally, I enjoyed my visit. So many different, wonderful local beers and wines and ales OH MY. The people working there were pleasant, despite how crowded it was. I miss you, Richmond!

Good spot to find a few ‘hard to find’ beers. Very good beer selection and very friendly staff.
Not unusual for me to hit this place up monthly looking for something that just grabs me. So far without fail I have found something that I was looking to try or pair with a meal.
If you are searching for something special do not be afraid to ask. Last time I wanted a really hard to find Bourbon Crux from Hardywood (way after everyone else was sold out) and the guy went to the back and pulled one from his supply! So that alone was worth 3 stars!

I’m honestly having a hard time putting into words how and why this place is so great. The selection is awesome, the staff is incredibly friendly, helpful and knowledgeable, and all around you just get a warm fuzzy feeling (at least I do). It’s a small shop but it even has a great little gourmet cheese and snack section, even some old-​timey candy.
Case in point: my wife had bought a sweet wine that we loved where all I could remember was that it was sweet and had a stained glass picture of a bird on it. With ONLY that little bit of information, the employee went straight to the bottle and handed it to me. From that point on, I was sold.

One step inside this shop and you’ll think you’ve died and gone to hop heaven.
The beer and wine selection is extensive and varied, with both chilled and un-​refrigerated options. Once Upon A Vine boasts wine and beer from around the world and chances are you’ll be able to find that lesser-​known, hard-​to-​find bottle right there in Bellevue. And of course they also carry Hardywood (currently stocking the Singel and the Bourbon Cru). I once snagged a 6-​pack of Carolina Strawberry Ale, purely for the fun label. Oh, and if you’re into Lambics, they have some interesting flavors.
Wine and beer tastings are Fridays from 5 – 8, and although I haven’t yet attended one I can only imagine how informative (and refreshing) they are! Who doesn’t want to try before you buy?
As if that wasn’t enough to make me a dedicated customer, their staff is quite possibly the friendliest I’ve met. Everyone I’ve encountered knows their stuff and is more than happy to offer suggestions or help me find whatever it is I’m searching for on any given visit.
I’ll take that buzz any day.

Wow, talk about overwhelming… I will be the first to admit I am no connoisseur of wine or beer, but I do know a good champagne. So, it was on this quest that I went to «Once Upon a Vine» Talk about over abundance! Wow, for anyone looking for a hard to find vintage, brand or even accessory, this place needs to be part of your shopping spree.
This building used to be an old 7 – 11 back in the day so just imagine that size store filled with booze! The beer coolers are extensive so you can pick up a six pack or bottle of many types of beer cold (which is always nice) They also keep some champagne, wine and Prosecco cold for you as well.

This neighborhood shop has a great selection of wines and beers.
If you’re looking for a wine, ask to speak with owner Robert Kocher. He really knows his stuff and will direct you to a great selection at an affordable price. Once when I was shopping, I mentioned that I’d like to try vinho verde and he directed me to a nice, light variety that was about $ 5. How often do you have that much luck at a wine store? There are wines displayed by region, but the main section of the store houses wines arranged by price so you can find what you want for the price you want to spend.
The beer selection is also big and the staff is very helpful here as well. I went in looking to select some lagers and ales for my boyfriend’s birthday (there’s a big by-​the-​bottle selection) and the staffer showed me some off-​the-​beaten-​path choices. He even suggested a beer to combine with cheesecake, my boyfriend’s favorite dessert, Southern Tier Crème Brulee Stout. Yum! Then, he carried my choices out to my car for me.
