I had a bowl of oatmeal with peanut butter, maple syrup and brown sugar. My coworker had a western omelette with cinnamon toast. We had fresh coffee and a history lesson of Richmond from a small group of locals! A great atmosphere with fresh breakfast and warm smiles!

Excellent service– we were treated like royalty!(It helped that we went with my grandfather, who is a regular there.) We ordered sandwiches which were good, nothing to complain about. I have to say that their lobster stew was some of the best damn stuff I have ever freakin tasted! I would go back there just for that. They also have phenomenal desserts which would have been a shame to pass up– since we were so stuffed from lunch, we bought desserts to go!

I really like the Railway Café. Friendly staff, good food, fast service. I have been here for breakfast and lunch. I enjoyed it both time. There is also a bar on the other side of the building but I have not been there yet. I would recommend trying it!

Ok, I came back — HUGEMISTAKE. They have a new owner and thought that it changed. I really think people who gave it more than 2 stars need to cleanse their pallets before saying it’s good or great. The BEST I can describe the food is simple: from a can or deep fried soggy. The owner served us the food and then when we saw it… well, I crossed my fingers I wouldn’t get diarrhea afterwards. I ate maybe 3 bites and it was disgusting. We said something to the owner and she even said, «It looked a little bad when I gave it you guys. We have a new cook, I’ll talk to him again.» What! The owner herself served it to us knowing she, too, thought it looked bad and then went on blaming the cook! Come on. How bad can a cook be when all you have to do is open a can and heat it up?! People with REAL pallets, please don’t stop here and eat. This is a place for fools or people who accidentally end up here from a long exhausted trip and can’t find anything else.

I lived in Richmond for entirely too long, so of course I went to Railway many times over those few years. The pancakes are HUGE. We love their chef salads and unlimited haddock dinners. The chicken caesar wraps have croutons, which surprised me at first. There is a variety of desserts available — if you have room after your meal and can afford them. The dark wood paneling makes the small space feel even smaller. The bathrooms are ridiculously tiny. My biggest complaint is the prices. We just couldn’t afford to go there regularly. If for some godforsaken reason you find yourself in Richmond, stop by and see if the Railway Café is open.

My partner and I stopped at the Railway Café on our way home from a weekend on Swan Island, and we were pleasantly surprised. The food was all very good, especially the french fries, which seemed to be handmade. The desserts, especially, were very tasty. The service was prompt and friendly and, best of all, we got out of there for less than $ 25, including bottomless iced teas and desserts. Can’t beat it!
