I really appreciated this place. They do have a collection of things that they’ve ordered — wine bottle covers, message boards, and other small but somewhat cool things — but the draw is the furniture they’ve repurposed. Renew 4 You is the sort of business that’s been popping up more often, given the obvious draws of reducing your ecological footprint and having more solid and unique pieces than are available at retail stores. Renew 4 You seems to be successfully practicing their work, as they’ve managed to stick around for a couple of years now. No matter what style of design you prefer, the creativity of this place is worth popping in for. Even more importantly, if you fall in love with an older piece that needs to be finished or updated then this is the PERFECT place to take it. You can tell them exactly what you want. I am not the sort of person that would buy a pink dresser or zebra striped chair, so I wasn’t sure about checking this place out today, but I’m so glad I did. They had more than one more muted piece that I really really liked, and several of the more wow! pieces made me stop and think that hmm, actually I could fit this into a room. The artistic skill displayed here is considerable. These people know what they’re doing. I spoke to the young woman managing the shop and she explained they have artists who specialize(i.e. a lacquer artist, a handpainting artist) and between all of them they do some exceptional pieces. The handpainted items were very carefully done and far more attractive than most painted scenes I’ve seen on furniture. This is high quality work! Their prices are great, too. We walked out with a handpainted flower scene on a forest-green folding chair that we love! One I-wish-I-could’ve piece was a very large dress/display piece that has been repurposed to look very warm and attractive was $ 799. Whoever gets that has gotten an amazing deal. They had a lot of random pieces that caught my eye, too. The stop-light birdhouse was fantastic, and the inexpensive but very pretty painted flowerpots were great, too. Basically if you look around long enough you’ll find something you like. The space itself is brightly lit from the windows and very clean, so it’s a pleasant place to pass some time. I also hear their inventory changes a lot, so I’ll be stopping in every time I’m in Richmond!

Local recycled furniture store, featuring painted and reupholstered pieces. Definitely a cool concept, this store rehabs old outdated furniture in to fun funky pieces. They do especially cool stuff for kids rooms, but also have some very reasonable pieces for other rooms in the house. A lot of the painting is whimsical– pink and green flowered tables, with matching dresser and bed, for example. They also do reupholstery and offer custom work as well as rehabbed furniture you can buy from the showroom floor. I think their prices are a little high, and I’ve seen a few pieces of furniture that were damaged, and I was wondering how they were pricing so high considering the damage, but I do love the concept of recycling furniture, and their reupholstered pieces are definitely worth the monetary investment.
