Richmond Coliseum

The is one of the older venues in Richmond, there are some updates that definitely could be made… seats are small and uncomfortable and you are elbow to elbow with whoever you are sitting next to. Overall decent venue but not one of my favorites.

We always have. Good time when we come to events here. Every seat is a good seat. It’s a circle so you get a chance to see everything.

Very old, definitely needs a whole tear down and rebuild. The whole richmond area does overall… but that’s besides the point. Decent food, what else can you compare it to when you’re at a venue.

The coliseum itself is what you would expect — prices and seating are not a good value, but it’s not off the mark from similar venues (for concerts). Overall, the place felt old and worn. Bathrooms were not very clean, and the urologist’s advertisement across the men’s room urinals was tacky.
I’m specifically downgrading this review because of the experience at the door — my wife was turned away after I was already past security because her pocket umbrella was considered a «weapon.» The coliseum «A to Z Guide» does not like umbrellas as banned items, but on this rainy evening they were telling people to take them back to their cars or drop them in a pile outside.
So yes, because you made my wife walk back to the car and then return in heavy rain on a cold night, I’m not pleased. I wasn’t allowed to do it myself (I had a jacket with a hood) because of a strict no-​reentry policy. If you’re going to prohibit a completely reasonable item from entry it’s probably a good idea to list that on your website.

Please update this place. It sucks

I’ve been to this place a few times for concerts and other events. Parking is a nightmare and they gouge you on it like vultures with their garages. If you arrive cray early you can maybe *fingers crossed* find street parking. Otherwise prepare to pony up the $ 11 – 15 in CASH ONLY for a garage across the street… or several blocks away if it’s full.
I like the outside look of it, however be warned the inside reeks of 1989. Have the bathrooms been updated since then?! It’s dank, outdated, and usually have this weird thing where you come in one door but can’t exit out that same bathroom door. Weird! Seating is a little confusing too which is why there’s often a billion different staff to help you find it. Just ask them, don’t try and be independent-​minded thinking you’re going to find Row WW Seat 347 Isle 22 by yourself you just won’t lol. I’ve sat in the wrong place so many times I just wait for some staff to come tell me I’ve ended up in the wrong section.
Food wise I never purchase ANYTHING from this place. Can we say overpriced children? Unless I was dying of starvation and my only hope was a $ 6 (clearly .50 standard issue) hotdog and $ 10 Dip-​n-​Dots would I even CONSIDER (not agree to) purchasing such ridiculous items. Just eat or drink before (or after) going to the coliseum, your wallet (and tummy) will thank you later.

Friendly staff at all the events, and I’ve grown up with great memories of this place. Definitely is old and showing it, but it has its charm, for sure. The seating is terribly uncomfortable, and it’s a pain in the ass to get up and grab more concession once you’re already sat (assuming you’re in the middle of the row, like we were.)

Came here for a beer festival and it did not disappoint. Clean, spacious and easy to get to from downtown.

I’ve been coming to the Richmond Coliseum since I was a little kid. I’ve seen a lot of great events in this arena. The most memorable moment is Darvin Ham breaking the backboard against UNC in the NCAA tourney. The Richmond Coliseum is where most big events are held in Richmond. The Richmond Coliseum holds sporting events, concerts, circus, and graduation ceremonies. There are multiple ticket windows on different sides of the coliseum. The box office is located on 7^th street. The view from the bottom is great. The middle of the coliseum has a good view. Most of the seats up from the middle sections are nose bleed. The seats go all the way to the top of the coliseum. You want to avoid the high up seats if you can. There are some solid food options in the Richmond Colisuem. The parking is a hassle because the Richmond Coliseum is located in the heart of Downtown Richmond. There is some street parking around the Richmond Coliseum. You must arrive very early to have a chance at a spot (3 hours before an event. Also, arriving early is vital if you want to avoid heavy traffic.). More than likely you will park in one of the decks surrounding the Richmond Colisuem. Check the prices of the decks surrounding the coliseum because they all have different prices. The Richmond Coliseum is one of Virginia’s historic venues.

Parking can be a drag, so get there early! About $ 10 to park. It will then take 45 min. To an hour to get out of the parking garage!

Arrived almost an hour before American Idol Tour 2011 started and hit serious traffic on a Sat. at 6:00 pm. Ample parking but not easily seen and will cost from $ 8 to $ 10 for the night.
Semi-​Safe area for family but find parking in garage attached to Coliseum or lot across the street. Normal exorbitant prices on concessions $ 7 small beer 10 $ Large Beer — $ 4 for large soda — 4 $ Hotdog — $ 4 for bottle of water.
Bought floor seats ($ 160 for pair of tickets) in section 6 which looked pretty good from seating chart but once people started standing you had to get up each time to see anything of course.
The chairs themselves we’re ridiculous metal foldout from the 1970’s it appeared (no really!). Unbelievable the age and condition of the chairs for all the money this venues brings in. They should be truly embarrassed. The staff was average friendly and the temp was comfortable. The show was awesome which made up for lack of comfort factor of the Venue. Buyer Beware — I WOULD NOT PURCHASE FLOOR TICKETS FOR ANY MORE EVENTS AT THE RC.

Some arenas are old but have charm. Richmond Coliseum is one of these arenas. Although somewhat obsolete today, the Coliseum still has some life in it. Compared to it’s sister arenas like the Nassau «Mausoleum», the R. C is leagues above them.
Although it is the typical one concourse, long lines for the bathroom and concessions arena, it is a cozy little place to take in a concert and just about every seat is a good one.
Prices are LOW! May be this is just because I’m a New Yorker and used to criminal prices, but when I saw Aquafina water for $ 2.50 my jaw dropped.
Enjoy the Richmond Coliseum. One of the few jems from this century of arenas
