I ended up at this theater for a puppet show for my kiddos of The Velveteen Rabbit. It’s a small theater which works for small kids. They allowed the little ones to sit right up front and even allowed you to bring snacks in. The theater staff was extremely nice, happy, and helpful. The show was affordable and definitely made my kids laugh a lot. It lasted about 45 minutes and then they got pictures with the puppet at the end. The puppet show theater moves around to different theaters so you will have to look them up online to find the next show and venue. I would say it’s better for preschool to kindergarten age groups. This theater venue is an adorable stage with comfortable seating. I would not hesitate to go to a show here again.

Just saw Two Boys in a Bed on a Cold Winter’s Night here last night. As usual, the theatre is intimate and welcoming. Great atmosphere. I so love the bartender, who makes stiff drinks at a great price. The show itself was about 3.5 stars. The talent was not balanced in this two-man show, one clearly outshined the other(and I don’t mean in terms of the full frontal, wink wink). It seems there are audio issues every time I attend a show here — in one case a power outage, I think and last night, just poor execution. Nevertheless, I love this little diamond in the rough and will continue to be a patron.

I’ve seen three events at RTP this year and have enjoyed 2 of the 3 immensely. The show with Madame was hysterical and I had missed her since I was a young man only to find she was coming back to Richmond. Take Me Out was about a baseball team and the writing was clever while the show moved quickly. Of the 3, Comfort and Joy was good, and the acting from some of the characters was great, but I can’t say that of the whole cast. I kept looking at my watch. However I was glad to come and support the theatre which is done so nicely. If you find yourself going to one, you’ll get hooked.
