Stopped by for a cup of tea one morning and realized they have breakfast. Had a wonderful, tasty egg sandwich and papas fritas(fried potatoes). Sitting in the back feels like one is hiding in a giant pantry(full of liquor!). My only complaint is that my breakfast took a REALLY long time(there was one other person and she already had her breakfast). The food was fresh and hot but it seemed like they had to go to the chicken coop to get the eggs and pull the potatoes from the ground(it took THAT long). If this is the normal speed of service, breakfast at Saison is definitely for a lazy day, not one that involves getting to work.

They should just rename it to Chicken & a Biscuit. The chicken is breaded perfectly, almost like an Asian breading. The biscuit is moist and doughy, and wonderfully buttery. Optional hot sauce even has a life of it’s own. The ladies here are cute AF, and I love looking at everything else they sell(local meats and beers along with some sundries. Call ahead for your order as the C&B takes about 10 – 15 mins to prepare.

This place is legit. They are very smart with their craft beer and wine options. I was very impressed to see Bruery beers there and Sierra Nevada/stone collaborations. Everyone is so nice here and of course the food is amazing. I loved the southern feel with a big city flare. Good times.

Chicken buscuit. That’s all I have to say. Heaven, really. Okay, but I’ll add more. So I came here because I kept hearing about some amazing chicken buscuit I had to try. OMG, it’s literally the best tasting chicken buscuit sandwich I have EVER had. Probably because they brine it, but still. Heaven. I have probably been here about 3 – 4 times to get the chicken buscuit and one of the times it was too hard(cooked too long) and the buscuit was stale. So they aren’t consistent, but when it’s good, it’s VERYGOOD. The iced coffee is pretty good as well and I like the interior of the shop. Quaint with a lot of items for neighborhood folks to quickly pick something up.

By far the best biscuit I’ve ever tried. Came in for the fried chicken biscuit, but was recommended the«fancy» chicken biscuit, which has Nashville-style fried chicken, house made sausage gravy, and a sunny side up egg. Wow, so happy we tried this, and will most definitely be coming back soon! Very cute atmosphere & a huge craft beer selection as well!

I go to Saison Market on days when I want to eat a fried chicken biscuit and drink a beer. Which is everyday, but I restrain myself. Seriously though, their chicken biscuit is life changing(order it with a side of their hot sauce) and they have a great selection of beers/wine and nitro cold brew coffee. Very cool spot if you’re in Jackson Ward and worth the trip if you’re not.

You guys — this place really has EVERYTHING I love in life! Saison Market: how do I love thee… let me count the ways: –Fried Chicken biscuits: HEA.VEN.LY. SM has officially ruined all other chicken biscuits for me. The meat is so juicy and well-seasoned(get it Nashville-style — extra spicy) and that biscuit just melts in yo’ mouth! And for your convenience, there is even a grab ‘n’ go case of biscuits. Ya know, for those chicken biscuit emergencies :) they also have a other yummy-looking menu items but I’m all about that chicken. –Delicious coffee: my cappuccino was served in a cute teacup! –Globe lights to set the mood: I loooove any kind of lighting arrangements with lots of strands and their set-up is so sweet! –Beautiful industrial open shelving to hold their impressive selection of wine and beer –Vintage collectibles for sale: antique maps, barware, pennant flags — I want them all!!! –Affordable food items: didn’t need gummy bears when I entered but I sure walked out with 2 bags at a reasonable price = movie candy that night! –Oh, and awesome music! Seriously, what’s not to LOVE about Saison Market?! I definitely plan to make this a regular weekend brunch spot. Until next time, Saison Market — will continue to dream about your chicken biscuit :)

Overpriced for a burger: $ 14, without cheese… thats an extra $ 5 with fries not worth finishing. The owner, Jay, is arrogant and bothered when questioned about his prices and charging $ 5 for cheese. Mama J’s has burgers at $ 7, GwarBar at $ 9, Tarrants at $ 9.50. Yet Saison Market owners are the face of greed and unbridled capitalism. We boycott this place. We would rather support the other local establishments who appreciate repeat customers Boycott Saison overpriced attitude. This aint South Beach nor Manhattan!

This has become my favorite place to go if I want to chill by myself with my laptop and coffee and/or craft beer. Although not very big, the space is airy with lots of natural light coming through the large windows, and at night a nice soft light to make you feel comfortable. Their chicken biscuit is a not too guilty pleasure as it is made of the best ingredients. I also once had the traditional Mexican soup pozole there and I have to say it was very comparable to what I had in Oaxaca, the foodie city in southern Mexico. Staff is super friendly and it’s nice that you can take your beer or coffee outside on the little patio.

I am really struggling to understand all the Saison Market love. I went to the actual Saison a few months ago and was underwhelmed, but I really wanted to give the Market a fair shot. I had lunch there an hour ago and left seriously disappointed… and hungry. I ordered the grilled cheese with bacon($ 2 upcharge) and my boyfriend ordered the chicken biscuit and side salad for a total of $ 22 pre-tip. For the prices of the sandwiches that did not come with a side, we really expected them to be a good size. My pimento grilled cheese was pathetic. It barely covered half the plate and had a tiny bit of cheese, two pickles, a smattering of veggies and ONE(!) piece of bacon. I can’t believe there was an upcharge for one TINY piece bacon. The grilled cheese was average at best, but for $ 9 it should have been filling. My boyfriend’s chicken sandwich was decent, but nothing special. The $ 4 side salad was a JOKE. It was the size of a garnish and wasn’t all that good. We both left hungry and disappointed and immediately headed over to The Dog and Pig Show. The one positive was the service, though we did the majority of the work ourselves. We got our water, we bussed our table, etc.

The chicken as usual was awesome the biscuit was crumbling and not held together and the coffee was bitter and tasted old and they have only been open for an 2.5 hours and per usual the service was lacking an enthusiasm… Second time and from the first not impressed and might come back, but not sure…

Saison has an amazing chicken biscuit. It is what I will always get here. The coffee is okay and the service is more on the lack side, but the food is totally worth it. Get a punch card for the Chicken biscuit so that you can get a free one after 10. You will definitely want to get it. The environment is pretty relaxed. Don’t come here just for the coffee. As a coffee snob, it’s just regular coffee. But they have different card games which is fun too!

Staff is mostly friendly. It very convenient if you live directly diagonally from it but otherwise, run to Kroger for your morning bacon. I am in no way saying that it isn’t a nice place but, it’s overpriced on most items. Cigarettes are 6.12 a pack but I try to look at that as a way to help people quit, because it’s damn expensive. I’ve spent five hours there studying before, when it was slow, and the staff took very good care of me. I’m glad they got the patio up and running! Also, the chicken biscuit is no good :(but, when they have it, the soup is fantastic.

Edit: upgraded from 3 to 4 stars. The staff is great, and we had an amazing dessert and good cocktails in the main restaurant. I want this place to be amazing, but I just can’t get all the way on board. Even as I’ve been at least 5 times. It’s 3 blocks from home, so convenience is paramount here. It’s great to grab a coffee or a pint and sit on the patio with our dogs. For the patio in a neighborhood without any, I am very grateful. The food we’ve had here has all been lacking. Perhaps just boring. The chicken biscuit wasn’t up my alley — biscuit was dry, and chicken lacked some flavor. We had the ½ fried chicken dinner, again… just lacking in flavor, and at $ 18…I expected it to knock me out. I’ve gotten dead limp greens in a salad once, for which they were very apologetic, and I even got a free sandwich card out of the deal. Right thing to do, and I recall the sandwich being great. As far as the actual market goes, $ 136-packs just aren’t necessary. I appreciate the selection and curating that small case must take some careful planning… but I feel like I’m paying a yuppie tax. It’s so close, and I appreciate where they’re coming from. It’s nice to have a place like this so close to home. I just think it misses the mark.

Holy chicken biscuit! Though I love a good Chik-fil-a one in the mornings. Saison just elevates theirs to another level with their light and fluffy made-from-scratch biscuits. However, the size and fry of the chicken itself isn’t always consistent, I guess depending on who’s working the kitchen in the morning. Overall, it’s still a good way to start your Saturday mornings. They have a limited brunch menu available starting at 10 am on the weekends(the market itself opens at 9). Some of the other items I really enjoyed off their brunch menu include the biscuits and gravy and hot chocolate latte. The only thing I was pretty disappointed by was their burger which topped with«Marrow”-naise. It was just greasy, didn’t have that great of texture, and I couldn’t taste any of the«marrow». Their prices are a little high for what you get. I believe the chicken biscuit is about $ 6 and isn’t accompanied by anything except a smear of their house hot sauce. But hey, the fact that someone woke up early enough to make their delicious scratch biscuits is enough to justify the price for me.

Saison Market is the truth! I happened to be in the area yesterday and I was starving! I used my trusty Unilocal app and it led me to none other than Saison market. I was in the middle of running a million errands so I was happy to go somewhere that was quick and tasty. When I walked in I did not expect there to be such a charming sitting/work/eating area! Talk about best kept secrets. I can really see myself planting here for a day of relaxation with friends or doing some work(if those 2 things can ever go together). I love the lights on the ceiling, the maps, and basically everything about the décor. I ordered a chicken sandwich that would kick Chick– Fil– A’s butt any day of the week. It was succulent, juicy on the inside and crispy on the outside. It normally comes with a thousand-island like sauce but i chose to put that on the side. Also, to my surprise, my little sandwich came with a side of potato salad. Yay! Another thing I love about Saison Market? They have everything! Need a bottle of wine and snacks? Check. Condiments? Check. Produce? Check. Ah, I love it all!

Come here is you’re looking for a unique bottle of wine that you won’t find in a supermarket. Come here for a quick casual gourmet lunch or supper, or if Saison is busy or closed next door. My favorite thing about the Market is that it’s open until midnight. I can walk here instead of driving to Kroger. There’s no bathroom, so it’s not really a place to study, more of a place to eat. Wines I mostly come here because it’s easy to drop by right before going to a party and pick up a bottle of wine. Bottles are mostly in the $ 20 – 30 range. I’ve tried a couple around $ 15 and have been pleased with them. Food The food comes from the same kitchen as the restaurant next door. I’m a fan of the menu next door. Bulgogi tenderloin sandwich. Marinated like the name suggests, the pork sandwich is succulent and smells amazing upon arrival. It tastes great, I’m always on guard for overreliance on aiolis and other mayo based sauces. This sandwich did not pass that test. Eating it without the meat is not much different than with the meat, meaning that much of the flavor is derived from the mayo. A welcome addition would be something green(e.g. spinach), a crunchy root vegetable like in banh mi(i.e pickled carrots and daikon), or actual kimchi to complete the Korean influence. There’s a lot of interesting items to try on the menu, so there’s plenty of reason to come back.

Picture this: You’re roaming the city one night trying to get beer before midnight and find a small, quaint shop still open for another 11 minutes that you scout out on Unilocal. You quickly parallel park(success!) and rush in to look at the selection. The friendly counter guy offers some assistance by way of taste comparison and recommendation and you take him up on it. Double success! But danger lurks in the back of your mind. «Did I pack the bottle opener???» you ask yourself aloud. You quickly realize no you didn’t and frantically call the hotel you’re staying at only to find out they don’t have one either! Fail! *DUNDUNDUN* What’s a girl to do?! You could pout and cry or go purchase one at a nearby gas station but wait, something’s on the horizon. It’s the friendly counter guy – Corey. He offers a valiant solution as he slowly pulls out his wallet. You wait mesmerized by what he could be doing when he pulls out his nifty wallet card sized can opener and says in the most angelic voice… «Here you can have this. I don’t want you to not be able to drink tonight.» It’s like Heaven has opened up and dropped Corey and his can opener here just for you! You’re no fool, you accept his card and lavish him with well deserved compliments. You good sir, you saved the night. Hats off to employees who go ABOVE and BEYOND their call of duty. I will remember Corey’s selfless deed and pay it forward if someone needs a can opener and doesn’t have one. Thank you just isn’t enough but this guy was pure awesome!

I got to this place right before lunch started(11:30) but they let us order from the lunch menu anyway! I originally wanted the acai bowl since it’s the only place in richmond that has it(for now) but didn’t end up getting it. It is only available for breakfast FYI for anyone wanting to try that so from 8−1130a. I got a simply grilled cheese($ 8). It isn’t your ordinary grilled cheese though! They add a whole bunch of other things to it that made it unique and delicious. I also had a bite of the chorizo sandwich(forgot the exact name) that was even more delicious than the grilled cheese! The place is really cute and«hipster». It has a nice warm/home-y feel that I love. The people are also really nice. 4 stars because we were the only ones there and it took a while to get our food. Plus I thought it was a bit pricey for what you get. You only get the sandwich you order on your plate. I would still come back though :)

Local market in Jackson Ward, right next to it’s big brother/sister restaurant Saison. I could not be more excited to get coffee or beer or food here. Saison Market has a wide variety of beers and wines for take away. Order something off the menu, select a six pack, and take away to relax in your home environment. Or stay chill in their open and bright sitting area constructed of custom designed reclaimed wood. Menu is a creative and innovative combination of southern(biscuits and grits) and Latin American(pimentos arepitas, chorizo pâté). And finally, someone in Richmond serves an Acai bowl! Of course Saison Market has varieties of pork belly too, check for yourself. Watch loyal neighbors and new patrons mill about. You’ll always know someone there, or in the least, be greeted by someone kind and energetic. Stop in for breakfast, lunch, supper, or take out! Thank you Saison Market for your hip environment and great locally sourced food and drink.
