Unilocal will often help those of us who are introverts to try something we would otherwise avoid. Stuart’s is one of those places. Food is no nonsense, seasoned perfectly and we received decent portions. Do not sleep on the spoonbread, it alone should make this place a Richmond landmark. I met the owner Wayne, who obviously cares about the quality of his product. Be warned he has a laugh like he’s been at sea for decades. Richmond — support this family owned business!

Great seafood — soulfood southern style — flavor!: Tastes like your mom made it. They season their food so great and the veggies are fresh. Not canned. Excellent seafood with a soulfood style to it. You have’nt had spoonbread till you’ve tried their sweet style. The food is take out only & the place is not much to look at but oh so delicious.

I’m always down for a good fish sandwich so I thought I give this place a try. When you 1st look at the building it looks run down & you feel you might get rob out here. As I got out the car the place smelled like rotten fish… I just hope my food doesn’t taste spoiled. When you walk in there no a.c. so it’s extremely hot. The menu offered a variety of choices but the cashier didn’t seem helpful being that this was my 1st time there & I was asking her what’s good & goes best together. Lauren my food was ready I asked for tarter sauce & ketchup she had an attitude & threw it in the bag. At this point I wanted to curse her out & throw this hot fish at her but I decided not too. There’s no reason to be rude, especially if I’m giving you business. I ordered the lake trout sand which & it came with 4 pieces of fish over white bread. It’s was ok, I’ve had better & the fish still had bones in it. I definitely won’t be coming back here & I should call the health inspector on this place.

Crabs were small but heavy and they gave us almond at double what I asked for. Would go there again.

Found this place ducking traffic in Richmond A total find. Good no frills Southern fried fish. Friends local told me one of the owners is almost always around. Which is a good sign. Lots of options. I’m a fish guy so I went in that direction. Had the Lake Trout and it was perfect not over done. Sides were to die for. Been spoiled by my mother in law’s collard greens so I had to bring home a side to prove how good they were. But you MUSTMUSTMUST save room for desert. The spoon bread is to die for. I think I could live on that alone! Now I schedule meetings to make sure I get stuck in downtown Richmond traffic. Just so I can hit this place!

Who gave Stuart FRESH Catch good reviews??? Is there another business in the Richmond area by the same name??? We paid almost $ 50 for boxed breaded shrimp, canned collard greens, and premade frozen hush puppies. If you have a seafood restaurant near water then fresh seafood for customers shouldn’t be a problem! They got my order wrong. I specifically requested extra shrimp instead of fried oysters and they gave me oysters anyway. I live near the Chesapeake Bay and if I wanted to spend $ 50 on seafood I should have just went to an authentic seafood resturant. This was my fault and I should have checked my food thoroughly before leaving. If your business is called Stuart FRESH Catch, then your food should be guarenteed fresh. Lesson learned…

It sucks. First time in my life I had SOGGY fried shrimp & oysters, which tasted old & frozen. The grilled scallops were raw, the whole thing was a greasy mess. The flounder and croaker were barely seasoned, no salt. The place is dingy & in desperate need of repair. The person who suggested it has horrendous taste. DONOTEATHERE

Old school seafood store in a slightly dodgy part of Mechanicsville Turnpike. Outside, they have a stand with freshly steamed crab by the dozen or bushel for pick up. Inside is a full selection of fresh fish and other seafood.

I really want to give it more stars, but really it is what I would expect from a seafood restaurant. It’s not like there’s a whole lot of fresh seafood around Mechanicsville Turnpike(or Richmond, for that matter), so there’s really no incentive to really UPTHEIRGAME. I do enjoy a little hole in the wall, which this place definitely is. It’s clean on the inside and the staff is friendly. Portions are hearty, and the food is good, although sometimes it takes FOREVER to get it served up after ordering, but even that’s OK. I’ve had the crab cakes and the catfish sandwich, both of which were good, but not like the crab cakes in Maryland or the catfish at a family fish fry. Definitely check this place out if you’re looking for some tasty fried seafood, just don’t look to get wow’d.

One of the top places to get Maryland Blue Crabs in Richmond. Pricey compared to the D.C. area but they make sure you’re satisfied!

Man, I think I’m even more comforted by my liking this place ’cause no one else in Virginia Unilocal shit. I asked the family of my best friend to supply me with real deal, dirty south, hardcore fried fish, and they gave me Stuart’s. They gave me nice. And cheap. The fried tilapia was solid, the tuna salad was tingy and a little relish-sweet and meaty and wonderful(with mounds of saltines on the side), but the spoonbread… well, the spoonbread changed me a bit. I think I grew a mullet, beer belly, and Ford pickup from my ass and decided to move to the South after the spoonbread.
