The apartments are decent, but it is a rip off that each person pays for their individual room only. On top of that, the management is terrible. I would like to emphasize — The management is terrible. Most of the college students staying here are better educated than them. This place is Rude and inconsiderate, and maintenance is poor

This place is ridiculous. #1 the rent is highly over priced. I pay 795.00. That’s 750 rent plus 45 parking everymonth to live in a 2 bedroom. They continue to charge me renters ins. even though I’m privately insured, the roommate matching is a joke and if your roommate refuses to pay their half of the bill you’re kinda SOL. They have lost my rent money, and don’t even bother to have any kind of initiative. You would think if maybe there was a chance you misplaced someone’s 800dollars, you would be a little worried. The walls are thin. I can literally hear someone sneeze in the other apartment next to me. There are parties all the time mon-​sun, the trash gets piled up and they lose all of my paperwork. I do NOT recommend this place to anyone. The only good thing is the apartments are furnished, which is great for anyone starting out on their own.

If only Unilocal would allow a ZERO star rating. They have now changed ownership and names, THE JAMES. I thought that maybe with a new management team there would be some hope for this community, sadly that is not the case. I am a transfer student to VCU, and was stuck trying to find housing last minute. I came across the collegiate, unfortunately. Not only were they unreliable throughout the lease signing process, but also lied on multiple occasions. They hype up their amenities hoping this will set them apart. But if you actually do your research, the amenities are not up to the standard you would expect. They pride themselves on a «Roomate matching system» which is supposed to set you up with likeminded people. That is not that case at all. The property looks disgusting, the hallways are filled with trash and cigarettes. Residents store their trash on balconies when they can’t get away with throwing it in the stairwell. The coded entryways have not worked once since moving in. The lights in my apartment have shorted out and will not turn off half of the time. You can tell that the apartments were put up quickly as the walls are paper thin, and the windows have poor insulation. Don’t even get me started about the location, if the train isn’t too much to handle the nightly gunshots may be. They charge extra for parking which you have to do because of the area you are in. However, if you have a night class plan on parking at the opposite side of the community. The police come at least 3 – 4 times a month. I have had the worst experience living here, and have not heard one positive thing come out of any of my friends mouths about this place. Oh and if you happen to get matched up with a Roomate who happens to try to break down your door before even meeting you… Don’t expect the management office to do anything about it. There are a lot better options closer to campus! I wish someone would have warned me before signing a lease!

They have a new number and probably changed it because of all the residents complaining hence they don’t really do a good or job at all in fixing resident issues. Housing styles are nice but not maintained. Management is the biggest issue I have here! They lack compassion, energy and a good attitude really. Bus is «O.K» but not that reliable. Lastly, DONT EXPECT to understand how to use the call boxes outside or pretty much how anything works around here. The management does not text or inform any resident on current activity and such around– don’t bother calling them. You’ll waste your time with their rude attitudes. ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE!

Amazing place to live. I’ve lived here for the last two years and this place has transitioned to be one of my greatest college experiences. I got to be roommates with my friends from school and the living arrangement was perfect. The apartments are spacious clean and furnished very stylishly. All of the amenities that come inside and out the apartment are GREAT! The pool, hot tub, spa room, 24hr gym, club house filled with up to date game systems apple desktops, pool tables, study rooms and not to mention flat screen televisions makes this place AWESOME. I have always felt safe with the 24hr/​7 days a week security. Maintenance request are handled almost the same day the latest the next morning. I would not change anything about The Collegiate. Staff is always welcoming and friendly, they make it their business to know their residents on the first name basis (Even the property manager Gwendolyn who is always there when you need her). This housing complex is like a family with a diverse background. There are activities and programs for almost EVERY holiday. You will not be disappointed ;)

The collegiate has a wonderful staff in it’s office that has always helped me out when needed. Each bedroom has it’s own bathroom and is pretty spacious for city living. The area in which the collegiate was built isn’t the best but the gated apartments and parking make up for it. The neighbors across the street are pretty loud during the night but as long as you’re not in an apartment towards the end, you won’t hear a thing. It’s a tad on the expensive side, but for what you’re getting compared to other apartments, it’s ideal living for a college student !

Wow well where should I start…
How about the way over prices rent. I pay over 675.00 to stay in one room in a 4 bedroom apartment! Sure the fact that it is furnished may sound good at first but all of the furniture is cheap and looks like it came from ikea or Walmart in the clearance section.
The cost for parking is 40 a month which is ridiculous considered its not covered or anything.
The maintenance at this place sucks. My washer machine was broke for 2 months before a person «got the time» to come fix it. Now my air conditioning is broken and I have yet to get it fixed after filing out a repair form a month ago.
The workers here are very unprofessional and seem to not care about the residents.
And I sware on everything I love I have seen dog sh*t in the hallways of my building at least three times. There’s always parties here and a bunch of loud obnoxious people who leave beer cans and food in the stairwells. Once again maintenance never comes to clean up our buildings so were forced to clean up other people’s trash.
They lock out gates to get out of our complex like we’re animals.
Overall I could keep going for days but I think you get the point by now. The collegiate will definitely be losing my money after my lease is up, and I will never vouch for these apartments to anyone! DO NOT MOVE HERE!!!
