I love this bar!!! I’ve been going to halligans since I was 21 all of the bartenders are awesome especially Katie who will listen to way too much personal information and make you feel better! Cheap, good drinks! If you need to make friends and you’re new to Richmond this is the place to go! Try the cesear salad with London broil it the best!!!

Stopped in lastnight around 11:00pm. Two people clearly saw us walk in. One continued to play with her cell phone, and the other was too busy talking to the staff in the kitchen to help. After 10 minutes of waiting for someone to greet us, we got up and walked to another restaurant.

Perfect bar to kick it at with some friends to get some inexpensive drinks and play a few rounds of Heads Up.

For a little dive bar downtown I stop in here a lot when want a few, fairly inexpensive drinks. Kind of a tradition to get a few chutes and ladders shots(where they turn on the siren). Not nearly as large as west end version but much more of a local bar.

The best part is the bar. The food is pretty terrible. Definitely microwaved. I have a pet peeve about«BBQ» places selling fake Barbecue, and this place fits that mold. Cornbread is fake cornbread from Kroger, Martins, etc. come for the ambiance and beer not the food.

Small local place with a seeming bunch of regulars. Just ordered some drinks, but the menu looked great.

Probably the best wings I’ve had in my life. Drink specials during happy hour(3 – 9) are a steal too. 4 dollars for a Sam Adams Oktoberfest. Outstanding service everyone who works here is extremely nice! Have only gotten the wings here, but will be back soon to try more. Highly recommend!

A true dive joint. All the staff knew the regulars. Food was tasty. Good selection of beers and liquor. Great place to visit for the fire buff.

Sorry, but the BBQ quality was just not there. I had high expectations, loved the décor, ordered the three-meat combo to get a wide selection. The beef was tough, the chicken was dry, the pork was OK. Maybe it was just a bad afternoon, I don’t know, but I’m not going back anytime soon.

A friend and I went here the day after the Beer Bourbon &BBQ festival in Richmond last weekend. The stand they had at that was good, and I was using Unilocal to find a good wing spot on the way home, this showed up, so… why not? It’s located in Shockoe Bottom, an area in general that I need to explore more. We sat at the bar, which had about 8 – 10 seats, and several different wide screen TVs placed on the walls throughout the restaurant. There was only one bartender there who was taking care of everybody. The service was good, but when it got a bit more crowded toward the end I was wondering why there wasn’t another bartender or server working. Seemed odd, especially for a Sunday afternoon. It was happy hour all afternoon, I got a couple of 3.50 Bloody Mary’s that really hit the spot. Good mix with a bit of a kick to it. There were 4 taps: Bud Light, Angry Orchard, Allagash White, and I can’t remember the fourth off the top of my head. I’ll come back and edit if I can remember. They did have a good bottle selection, about 15 – 20 from what I saw. For an appetizer we got the«Wings of Fire,» naked and tossed in the«Fully Developed» buffalo sauce. They weren’t the biggest wings in the world, but they had a good amount of meat on them, they were well-cooked and tender. The sauce had a good flavor to it, but I’d recommend the 5 Alarm if you’re into something spicy. I got a ramakin of that on the side with my main course and it had a good flavor to it. For the main course I got the Texas brisket sandwich with chipotle mac and cheese on the side. Very generous portion of well-cooked brisket with a good amount of slaw to go on top. The mac and cheese was really good, I think there may have been more cheese and mac, but I’m not complaining. It wasn’t very«chipotle,» in the sense that it was good but I was expecting more heat to it. Overall it was a good way to spend a Sunday afternoon, and I’d go back if I was in the area again. Also kudos to them for having a good stand at the festival, it really hit the spot after an hour’s worth of imbibing alcoholic beverages.

Food is typical bar fare. Nothing too exciting or special about the food. The bar is pretty neat and it is well decked out with Fire Department stuff. I’ve stopped here a few times for a quick drink with friends before going to another event. It’s a good place to drop in for a quick drink before going elsewhere. Service was slow and we had to signal our waitress several times throughout the evening.

Well I always catch Halligan’s on weekdays between 2 and 8 pm so that is what this rating covers. The various bartenders you will encounter here during the weeknights are all cool and very friendly. On weekdays, typically only locals and friends will come here. It catches more of a crowd during the weekends. The food is good here. So far I haven’t had anything I did not like. I would say if you like wings, the smoked wings with no sauce are great. I’ve also had their daily lunch specials, which are usually some form of wrap and a side. I haven’t been disappointed with the quality of food or service. I think their food is sort of basic in a good way. Their fries aren’t amazing but they are good. Their barbeque isn’t the best ever but it is better than a lot of other places. Their burgers and sandwiches are good too. If you like divey bars and don’t have unreal expectations for food, you will be pleased with your experience here.

Great if you are a hipster and like being treated like crap. After waiting about 5 minutes, I thought the bartender/server was going to discuss the menu. Nope, high fiving his buddies and shooting the breeze for 5 more minutes while I waited. He finally came over and asked what we wanted. I asked for a recommendation. No lie, he told me to read the menu and pointed at the entrée section. Then walked off. I looked at my friend and said we are leaving. I refuse to stay at a place that treats its customers that way. They won alright! I will never bother them again.

So you guys know how I love a place that comes off as a bit of a dive, right? And when you combine that with some great wings, decent beers, and some super sandwiches, you have one happy girl! We went for dinner on the last day of February as part of our«eat one new place each month in 2015» challenge. Even though I have had their barbecue at multiple outdoor events like Hogtober, I had never actually eaten at the actual place of business. The place is very small with 4 or 5(I think) tables, a small bar, and seats facing the window. We grabbed the last table available and started to look over the menu. For some reason, DH and I have been on a chicken wing kick — so we just HAD to try the«Fully Developed» style. They were large and meaty with a real nice kick to them. We both like it spicy so they were a big hit. Next I had The Chief which was thinly sliced London Broil with onions, horseradish mayo, and cheese. Even after 5 big wings — I manged to eat all off this since it was SODANGGOOD! I can’t tell you which beer I had since I couldn’t really hear my server, but it was an excellent porter! When we left around 8pm or so, it was definitely on the way of becoming more of a bar and less of a restaurant. I can’t wait until the weather warms up and we can walk down to Halligan’s to get our wings on.

This is a cool little bar and restaurant. Big selection of beers. Food was pretty good. Had the fish and chips and my friends had the wings. My meal was very good and lightly battered(which is perfect). I was told the wings were ok. Service was very pleasant and I enjoyed the ambience. I would suggest a better sign for out front. We walked by it twice before finding the place.

I have been here several times and fall in love with it more every time. For one, it’s great food and when I was pregnant I craved the battalion burger and hush puppies. Each time the food was delicious. I enjoyed talking with the bartender and one night I went they were doing karaōke. The decorations are nice and the music is great!

Came here on a Monday night for food, so glad there weren’t much people cause it’s a small dive bar and I do not like the smell of alcohol… Food is awesome!!! The pulled pork nachos is a bomb and the BBQ meats are legit!!! The side dish — collard greens, southern style green beans, mac n cheese, corn bread are really southern! Me and my husband just finished visiting families in the south and are on our way back to New York, this is a good«last taste» of the south for us!!!

Best bar ever. The coolest place to make friends. Don’t be a d*ck and you will fit in perfectly. The owner volunteered at 9⁄11. The spot’s décor is firefighter style and tight as hell. :)

The Halligan Bar and Grill, which claims to have some of the best BBQ around Richmond, is a uniquely designed place. It is a rather small nice, but rugged restaurant, if you cold ever think of a merging of the two. Think of a smaller Fire House Subs with a bar, taken to the next level in firefighter regalia and you have THBG. I ordered food to go, but they have some nice bomb shots available that I am sure would set any evening off well in the downtown area. Food was good and spicy and if I ever make it back I will be sure to try some of their unique burgers or other fare.
