Had a nice lunch here at The Tavern. This spot has been well known by locals for years! We entered smack dab at noon, and we were seated at a 4 top on the enclosed porch. Service here is friendly and attentive. I felt great that we kept it simple when ordering and everything came out perfectly. Grilled Chicken on top of Greens, and just a burger with fries. Easy stuff but tasty. Refills of beverages were right on time. The Tavern is clean and busy. They seem to be running everything just right. Nice wooden bar, I’ll remember that if I’m in the area for happy hour. Big booths I noticed as we were leaving… might sit inside next visit! Plenty of parking. Convenient location at Three Chopt and Patterson.

Our first time eating here and we were very pleased. They have a great beer selection and the menu also has a lot of options along with daily specials. My husband got the Chili and Caesar salad which was very good, fresh romaine, no brown lettuce(this is very important) homemade croutons and a very tasty homemade Caesar dressing. Chili was good with NO beans(this is also important) anyone who knows chili, knows chili ain’t got no beans, they’re filler. I ordered the seafood creole that was delicious! Shrimp cooked perfectly and the dish was seasoned well. The kids menu also offers plenty of options. The service was good, our server was very friendly and attentive. We will definitely be back. I look forward to exploring the menu more.

The service is amazing: everyone is incredibly friendly, and very fast to seat and serve you. The food is also fast, which is great especially because my large(and probably annoying) family comes here often but the staff is nothing but nice. The food, however, is nothing special. It’s your typical greasy bar American food, nothing more, nothing less. Ultimately I would never choose to come here if I were paying for myself. It’s a good place to hangout, but the food isn’t worth the money.

Tavern is hard to find with poor signage. However, it was the best cheesesteak I have had since moving to Richmond. I will be back.

I strongly recommend you give the Tavern a shot. This is a neighborhood kind of place… And for my wife and I, the kind of place you go back to often. The décor is nice with exposed brick walls, wall sconce lighting and plenty of high-backed booths. In addition to the main seating area, there is a good sized bar and a covered and mostly climate controlled deck. The deck is a good choice when the weather’s nice and the dining room is full, but maybe not a great choice on a really hot afternoon. The only other comment I’d make under the décor category is that there really is no place to wait when you can’t get a table and the bar is full. Other than the appeal of a local Tavern, the reason we keep going back is consistency. This is the most consistent restaurant I’ve ever found. In the past 5 or 6 years, I’ve had only one meal I had to send back to the kitchen, but the manager did everything possible to make it good and discounted the bill appropriately. The is typical for a Tavern, and it’s consistently well-prepared and fresh. We’ve had just about everything on it. For Sunday brunch, try the Big Devilish Mess(an epic scramble) or any variation of their Benedicts(the one with crab cakes is my favorite). Another of my personal favorites is the burger because this is one of the few places that uses fresh ground beef and will still cook your burger to order. I get it with bacon and blue cheese and it’s RIGHT. They put 3 slices of super thick, crispy bacon on it and a very generous amount of REAL blue cheese. Also very good is the cheesesteak and the oyster po’ boy. If you’re not into meat, The Mediterranean sandwich(huge) is a great choice and is tasty hummus on pita with a pile of fresh veggies. I’m a meat kind of guy and I really like this sandwich. If you go for dinner, you’ll have daily specials to choose from and I really like that they put the specials on their website every morning. The options often include a steak, a seafood and a pasta dish to choose from and are typically very good. Service is ALWAYS friendly and with very rare exceptions, way better than average. Even when they’re very busy, I’ve never felt rushed. Prices are very reasonable.

First impression was right on with a lot of reviewers’…super nice, super welcoming. This place is a mile from me and this was the first time I had been. And it won’t be the last. Food was decent(I had some sort of «grill» which had sausage, veg, potatoes, and shrimp, and the BF had the Alfredo) drink selection was great(sauv blanc for me, beer for him). They have a cool outdoor section that I am bummed to just be discovering. While all of the staff is very nice, sit at the bar. The bartender is one of the nicest most genuine people I’ve seen in a long time… he made the visit! The BF and I shall return!

After one bad experience with dinner here; I had an opportunity to return and had a fantastic dinner. The steak was cooked perfectly and the accompanying vegetables were seasoned perfectly. By far my favorite part of the meal was the Maryland Crab Soup. I think this just goes to show you should always give a place a second chance… especially when you are the lone person that had a bad meal out of a group.

Wow. This place is fantastic. Given this place is in a strip mall, I don’t think I would have ever gone in were it not for some great Unilocal reviews. I sat at the bar rather than a table, because I was dining alone and wanted to chat with the other customers. The bartender was very friendly and helpful. I ordered the pasta special of the day, which was basically she-crab over pasta, and it was outstanding. The rolls are some of the best I have ever had. They even came with whipped butter. I’ve never praised salad dressing, but even my dressing(balsamic) was outstanding. I don’t know if it’s home-made, but it certainly tasted home-made. I had the opportunity to see several other people’s meals, since I was at the bar, and everything just looked beautiful. The menu is diverse and has several healthier options that I wouldn’t expect in a place called The Tavern. This is not pub food. This is high-end gourmet food in an upscale tavern-like atmosphere. I will be coming back here often.

Good place to go. Hidden a little from the main road but locals know it’s here. Good bar and beer selection and the BLT is my go to when eating, just ask for double bacon and it takes it up a notch. Place is a little small and it feels like a local bar which is ok. Sometimes the crowd can be kind of sketchy or preppy, you never know… I’ll go back.

Keeping it at a 2.5 — I haven’t gone back yet. However, the owner reached out to me about my review. He was super prompt about it and clearly is addressing the issue. I’m going back soon for another lunch meeting and will review again. So always worth knowing the owner is on top of issues. It’s inevitable they’ll happen… what matter is fixing them. Unilocalers — this is exactly what we hope for. Wouldn’t it be awesome if every place we went to was 5 stars? Obviously it’s not the case. But we can help highlight areas for improvement. To those who are reviewing negatively, please do it with an eye towards letting the business owners improve. I probably need to consider this advice as much as anyone. An email from the owner concerning my two star review is encouraging — means the system is working.

This place is everything Unilocalers say and more! Welcoming, friendly staff are quick on their feet to get you your yummy food. Menu is beyond well rounded. Saying they have something for everyone is an understatement. I ordered a burger with a boca patty instead with just lettuce, tomato and onion. So deliciously good. The wheat bun was fresh and the patty was cooked perfectly. The fries were pretty darn good. Super crispy and you can tell the oil is clean. Parking is a but of a pain but worth it. Right on the corner of three chopt and Patterson and a little hidden in the corner so keep your eyes peeled and you will find this little neighborhood gem!

Sadly not as good as I remember. The location and atmosphere make this a likely candidate for a good neighborhood place. The service is friendly and reliable as well(except for the teen-age hostess who attempted to take my plate mid-bite). Unfortunately, the food does keep up. On this visit, I had the crab cake sandwich(menu says its a «Tavern Favorite») and DH had the burger. My crab cake sandwich was basically all bun as the crab cake was appallingly thin. I found the accompanying fries to be soggy and not worth the calories. My guess is they had been cooked a while ago and sitting in a warmer. DH described his burger as OK but was bummed by the fries as well. Maybe this was just an off night or maybe I just ordered the wrong thing. But with so many more restaurant choices in our West End neighborhood now, it may be a while before I try them again.
